Wow amazing! We're Bengali hindus , and till this day, this sound is used by us during religious and cultural ceremonies as well as during the beginning of something auspicious! Such similarities in culture! Amazing!

Yes, and it also works the other way round! My parents in the Forces came back to the UK in 1954 and struggled (well no, gave up on!) Rock n roll lyrics, so would have loved this bit of non woke, non pc, comedy on the crap language, coming commonplace even then, that they could not understand. Peter Sellers did some non woke satire in the sixties laughing at early attempts at the dumbing down of classical music!!! Of course this wasnt PC even then, so it hardly ever got broadcast...

2:04 - 'Norma St John Scott' - combining the names of Norman Scott with the then very well-known politician and extravagant society 'aesthete' Norman St John-Stevas. (St John being correctly pronounced as 'Sinjun'). A very apt coupling - and the audience knew it.

So alarming to think this brilliant sketch may have been wiped like many others. Was it luck or divine intervention which saved it?

If a South Asian hears Arab ululation for the first time, he thinks it is Hindu culture. Because Hindus also give ululation like this when they go to worship gods-goddesses.

At last! I've been trying to find this sketch for years. I once listened to a recording of it on a flight. Though I think the one I listened to was a different version with Ronnie Corbett instead of Peter Cook. All I could remember was John Cleese was in it. The bit that stayed in my head the most was the "grain of rice" part.

The difference between comedy then and now is it was “Look at them, look at them!!” Now it is “Look at me, look at me!”.
