When I listen to this music, I remember the great beauty of the Occidental music in all centuries and the importance of Savall's work who give us a beautiful music. Great, master!

So incredibly beautiful! I consider learning about Jordi Savall one of my best musical "discoveries" of the past years. Since hearing him for first time, I've bought a number of his albums and they've all been superb. Genius!

I would very much like to see them live... And I would like to listen to a lesson of his philosophy how to play (ancient) music. How to listen.. I believe in the individual pulse of every piece of music. And his versions fit.

@erizx The largest is a violone. Note these instruments have frets (dried gut tied around the neck), more to aid in timbre than intonation, although they can be slanted to allow for minute changes in intonation as well. Strings are gut, and are bowed underhand. Tuning is primarily in fourths, with a third in the middle, similar to a guitar.

Merveilleux ensemble de musiciens!
@ninebreaker2114 жыл бұрын
@erizx No, they are viols, a family of instruments that predated the violin family (technically the modern double bass is a viol). They come in different sizes - treble, tenor, bass (the size similar to a cello). I don't see a tenor in this ensemble.

Not Dowland, but it's music from the Renaissance, the same stylistic period. The first piece is an arrangement of a vihuela da mano (early guitar tuned like a lute) pavan by Luis Milan.

How to pronounce Jordi: the first consonant sound like the "s" in "vision" or "pleasure", the rest as you would pronounce in English. The strong syllable is the first one. Jordi is George in Catalan

Mainly medieval, renaissance and baroque music by composers that few people these days remember. Some are spanish, some catalan, provencale, french or italian. Dowland of course is british.

Thank you very much. I play baroque violin and rebec. So if someone tell me who composed (arranged) them, I'll try to play them. I searched several dance books of renaissance era for those songs before, but I couldn't find them.

Sorry, I was wrong, it is the Canarios from Ostinato and it starts at 5:03. great song .
@sh1k4n17 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately it is not, I have the CD and these songs are not on it. There is a Canarios (improvisation) but they are not the same piece, I think the one on Ostinato is better =)

I believe this is 'Canarios (Improvisation)' from the Savall/Hespèrion XXI album 'Ostinato'. Can anyone confirm that?

the ground of the 3:08 part in Spain it's called ''guárdame las vacas'' since the Renaissance. It's not clear if the romanesca was the same or not.''Guárdame las vacas'' it´s: IV-I-II-VI#/ IV-I-II-VI#-II.
@trhlajz5 жыл бұрын
At position ► 3:08 - it is rather: ♫ "Danza dela Hacha" (compare with this version: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3yTq3iQq66CZ8k ) But OK, it is also one of derivations on Romanesca scheme - like 'Guárdame las vacas'' (and also later ... "Greensleeves") O:-) (One of the fine versions of: 'Guárdame las vacas'' is here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jnfMpGqbnNxkaZo)

anyone know what particular piece they are playing?

Barrejar música i política és, senzillament, estúpid. Jordi Savall, Pau Casals i tants altres catalans il.lustres són personatges universals
