Its not a replacement to the evora. Its a straight up facelift, a good one. Their being forced to discontuie the toyota v6 due to stricter emissions standards coming in 2026/2027. Lotus are too small a company to develop yheir own engine unfortunately. And the Evija aint happening.
@TheRedlinedotcom13 күн бұрын
It is absolutely a replacement to the Evora. Very few cars are not based on what comes before it so to say it's not a new car is curious at best. It has a whole new driveline, the structure of the car is quite different to the Evora's, it's a completely new interior and electronics/electrical package. A facelift is nowhere near as comprehensive as this has been.
@_Ben48103 күн бұрын
It's not a facelift...There are some serious changes in suspension geometry & all the obvious bits from the Evora... This is most definitely a new Lotus model...

There's updated software that improves the gearchanges. Why it wasn't like this at launch for all the car reviews? I don't know - they shot themselves in the foot there. But it's much better now.

That car isn’t going to sell at that price. It’ll be 50% off after a year.

Well it's already been here a year and they're struggling for supply, so...maybe not yet. The First Edition is pretty much gone, the non FE is about $20k cheaper.

@ It’s only $100k here in the US. I don’t understand the disparity 🤔
@TheRedlinedotcom16 күн бұрын
When you do the conversion at the current rates that works out at about A$166k. We have a lot more taxes and charges on we're a lot further away from Norfolk out here :-D We have a 30% tax on cars costing more than about $A80k, GST and import duties.

Know a few people who put a deposit on this car but ended up getting a refund due to dealership idiocy and insane delivery delays. Lotus priced this car wrong. They need a reasonably priced car given their brand positions. They need to take a lesson from Porsche 944

Great review of possibly the best looking car on the road at the moment, certainly in its price range. You've got to drive the V6, it's even better with the manual gearbox and 3.5 litre supercharged engine and all the drama and noise that brings
@TheRedlinedotcom20 күн бұрын
I am very keen for the manual V6, just for the higher engagement and more controllable engine characteristics. The M139 is good, it just not as usable or snappy as the V6 in the Evora (I assume little has changed). Thanks so much for watching!

I owned an Elise. It's a driver's car that's road legal. There are compromises. This car really is the other way around I read the gear changes on track are too slow
@TheRedlinedotcom19 күн бұрын
I don't think it's fair to compare the Elise with the Emira. That's why the two would sit side-by-side in my five-car fantasy garage. However this gearbox is a bit odd and needs a bit of sharpening although sadly it's AMG's and not Lotus's.

When it comes down to choosing does 1/10th of a second matter. The selling point for many hot hatches is the 0-100, the whatever to whatever. In reality those few tenths don't matter. It's how you relate to the car. So many reviewers struggle to explain the feeling driving a Renault Sports. Those who own one know, the Renault Sport Division make cars that make you feel part of them.

How much do replacement EV tires cost for the Born 19's or 20's? My Michellin Clubman tyres are roughly $495 a pop. Ouch. Also, how quick is the charging and which networks are best?
@TheRedlinedotcom20 күн бұрын
Hi there. Sorry for the very late reply. The tyres for the Born are likely the same as those Michelins you've got, give or take. Charging is maxed out at 170kW but most chargers are around 50kW or less. I've found Evie to be quite reliable.

I do like the wheels and have to agree with you, they remind me of the wheels I had on my MR2. Shame you didn't get to do some hard braking in the nasho to see if you could get it unsettled. I thought it looked like you were getting out of a van instead of a hatch, but with the battery low and EV weight it can have the headroom without changing the centre of gravity too much. Nice to see you publish again now you're not on a plane every week ;)

Why did they make the RS5 with a narrow boot ? Back in the early 90s we had the Audi Coupé - a two seat hatchback. Like the TT the rear seats are not the nicest place to be but the car does not have the practicality of the TT. The sportback is good but I don’t want four doors. A two door RS5 with a hatchback would have been perfect. Especially as the TT is too cramped for me.

I bought a lightly used 2020 30i (9k mi) earlier this spring, and I definitely think it's the "pick of the litter". The one single time I actually floored it was during the test drive. Oh, I get on it sometimes, for fun in sport plus, but the pedal never really touches the floor. I have to back off in real world driving. It's just plenty fast. I had an x3 M40i, so I know that incredible engine. But, it's too much power, in this roadster, for sane people. 30i is definitely the "sweet spot".

C'mon, you're a smart guy. I can tell. Do you really think Lexus wants us to use that trackpad? That means we have to take our eyes off the road and fiddle around while traveling at over 100 feet per second. That's really dangerous. As for a touch screen, same thing. The second you take your eyes off the road, bad things can happen and they often do. Sometimes it is necessary to do this but the less time you spend looking at buttons or screens, the safer you are. Therefore, Lexus came up with the most perfect way possible in this day and age. All we have to do is talk to the car. It's called VOICE COMMAND and you're much too smart not to know about this. The trackpad is only there to input your personal preferences when you run MENU/SETUP. After that, it is very rare that you'll use the trackpad. My 2018 is an awesome car and I haven't used the trackpad more than ten times in four years. I can call wife or any of my contacts. I can text them. I can find an address. I can find any kind of restaurant. I can listen to any music or radio station. I can check on traffic. I can control the climate in the car. There isn't much I can't do. One of the few things is warm or cool the seats but by saying "Show Seat Warming Screen", the infotainment system gets me directly to that screen and then I look down for a split second and slide my fingers up or down the trackpad. Using CLIMATE CONCIERGE, I've never had to change a thing. So, wouldn't this have been a much better video...and certainly more fair to Lexus...to demonstrate just how wonderful the infotainment system really is and how simple it is to use? It's certainly not a bad feature of this car but if you don't read THE OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS because you think you know it all, then you haven't been fair to Lexus.
