I had a EPA guy tell me that I could have a tractor with a straight pipe making noise all day and no problem. But as soon as I started to use that tractor for recreation that was against the law. I should point out that I had a 3 acre mx track in my backyard and a prick neighbor !

have a solar panel array on your race trailer and keep charging it up through the day hell yeah. come back eat some lunch and give it a charge, charge overnight when camping after your battery bank on your trailer is fully charged. infinite riding. they need to come out with an electronic exhaust that mimics a real one, when you give it more throttle it should get louder not whine, and mimic gear changes haha. maybe produced with a weatherproof speaker or something

my heavily polluter 2stroke bike weigh +20lb less has a clutch for overall more control refill the tank in less than 50sec replacing that lithium battery pack cost more than my whole bike brand new IT SOUNDS FUC&#^& awesome I`ll switch to electric one day...

Anyone who actually thinks dirt bikes sound good needs a serious hearing test. Maybe if electric bikes had speakers that played fart noises as they drove along, you'd like them more?

jarett baker They are real engines. They are very powerful and efficient. They just aren't obnoxiously loud. A quiet dirtbike is a good thing because people won't get pissed off. I don't understand the hate the only difference is it makes no noise. They also require basically no engine maintenance. Range is the only downside but that will improve with time.

I'm 40 years old and remember growing up in Plano TX with my KX 80. Back then our subdivision was at the edge of urban sprawl and behind us was nothing but vast expanses of open land. This land was probably owned by someone or perhaps the city but it was fully accessible for public use. All of us kids in the area had mx bikes and there was no such thing as trailering your bike anywhere. You started your bike in your garage and rode from there to meet your friends at any one of seemingly endless natural terrain motocross tracks back there. Those were the days! They're long gone now though and I think electric bikes are probably the only hope of regaining some riding spots.

+ducatiist i love my elec-bike for exactly that reason. I have a 'street legal' mode - 200w (lol, stupidly slow) and my 'offroad' mode - 10kw. plenty of power given its only 45kg. and no one notices you either :P

I would still ride the bejesus out of my 450, But the chance to go to my neighborhood electric track and tear it up for the evening? Thats huge! the Tech is a LONG way off from even coming close to compete with MotoX. This is an entirely different sport, like Mtn Biking or BMX. Im super interested. I ope the tech drops in price so I can get involved without having to mortgage the house to get one.

+Hooves you should look closer mate... i know guys with mx level power on _pushbikes_, and even 1 or 2 with super bike power on pushbikes (ie over 100hp), on things that weigh about 50-80kg... the one thing lacking with electrics is range, and that's increasing pretty rapidly (+20% or so in the last year). lighter, more power, way less maintenance, ride where you want cause no one can hear you... there's lots of advantages with the only real disadvantage being range...

this will never replace real mx & sx this is for girls. i mean it's cool if you're just riding around town trolling on it. riding through malls and on golf courses but as for using it to replace mx & sx HELL NO!!! i love that 2 stroke sound as well as the 4 stroke sound in the woods

As much as i like the sound of a motor under me, this is genus. There wouldn't be any of that green sticker crap, there could be tracks virtually anywhere due to barley no noise, and when the batteries get better they could be used for gncc because i'm assuming that they would be reallly light so easy handling.

Electric MX bikes would slam the "they're too noisy" door argument used to shut down tracks across the country. Ya, they might not sound as wicked, but given development time, they'll be just as fast as the gassers.

"Noise" is the only valid complaint people have. So, people can either change with the times, or not. The fact remains, electric motor racing is in the future. And the bottom line is, speed doesn't give a hoot about sound. :-)

and remember hardly any maintenance !!! electric has a far better efficiency track record than ice ...look at trains metro etc ..and yes the batteries will get there too and are now on a competitive level economicly allready ..(tesla)

its a start ..now have a race between ktm, zero, brd, brammo, quantya , anyone else?? ktm and quantya are the only ones packing 2kwh ..rest is 5kwh so 20kg extra! this looked like an advert for ktm ... i did ride it it is like a trials or lite mx and it shurely is fun for technical riding.!!! grtz
