Kia is only an audible form of breath. As long as the breath is forceful the sound is optional. Just my opinion

You guy should spend a much time training as you do on KZbin, you could join the grandmasturbater club here. What a bunch of wannabe martial morons
I have read his report about karate. He explains kata should evolve according to his/her progression. He compares kata to handwriting. The 1st rigid way is square style. This form is what we normally see and 1st we learn at school. The 2nd is semi cursive style(what he is dong in this video clip at full speed). We can still read it as naihanchi. Lastly, it's a cursive style and it's somewhat hard to imagine what the original form looks like. He says in the report, kata can finally be accessed only if it's at semi-cursive level or higher. When you write your name in cursive style the letters maybe all connected. And your handwriting may look different from others. But he says it's OK as long as you have gone through the square style then semi cursive style.

Ok, so all the slow versions, when the second step landed the block was performed, but at full speed he blocks before the first step is even done...

So what? If you just evaluated his technique based on whether he perfectly followed the pattern, as if this were a dance routine, there minus "points", then you've entirely missed the point. The man's body mechanics are off the charts.
@evangodbee24258 жыл бұрын
He is demonstrating that the kata can be interpreted and performed in different ways. The purpose of the kata after all is to teach us applications for combat, not for rigid performance of a pattern
@KOTR20038 жыл бұрын
Evan Godbee The point of a kata is to do it in order. Deductions would be made in a competitive environment if you do them out of order.
@evangodbee24258 жыл бұрын
+KOTR2003 um this is not a competitive environment, it's a demonstration at a karate dojo. And no the point of kata is not simply to do the techniques in order. That is a very low level understanding of karate. The point of kata is that it contains a plethora of combat skills. One who has studied for years realises that in application they need not always be performed exactly as they are in traditional kata. It's techniques for combat, not a robot dance
@KOTR20038 жыл бұрын
Evan Godbee But for a teaching resource you need to give proper information. With your logic a school teacher can give misinformation and still be doing their job properly.

Ummm, I've been doing Shotokan for 37 years and have never trained in another style. His hip movement is NOT wrong, just so very advanced that it's difficult to understand. This video is worth studying. Also, any Shotokan student would benefit from checking out how the Matsubayashi Ryu people move.
Actually, the Pinan katas are taught in the Seibukan system, but they are not original Seibukan katas. Seisan, Wansu, Ananku, Passai, Gojushiho, Wanchin, Chinto, and Kusanku are the original empty hand katas of Seibukan, and Tokumine No Kun (bo kata) is the only original weapons kata. Chozo Nakama was a close friend of the Shimabukuro family. Zenpo trained with Nakama at the request of his father. He taught Zenpo the Pinan 1-5, (Itosu no) Jion, Naihanchi 1-3, and then Zenpo added the katas.
