Hiya, first of all great tutorial; quick question: have you tested out the spring? I have my Capra ordered and I want to buy correct spring(got the same one as you did) before delivery and I wonder how accurate the YT calculator is, as I used some other ones and on YT website the stiffness of the spring was let's say the lightest. Great review. I’m ordering a Jeffsey as a soon as they are available again. Do you think there is any value in getting the Core 5 over the Core 4 if it can be budgeted?
@Ricks-RidesАй бұрын
Awesome. Man, my personal opinion is no. The Core 5 has the XO transmission instead of the GX which doesn't add much value to me, they both work the same, the XO is just lighter. All the other components including brakes look about the same besides the Fox suspension with Kashima that comes on the Core 5. I think the RockShox which you get on the 4 work so much better, but that's just my preference and based on my experience with both. Now the Uncaged 14 model which is the same price as the Core 5... I would be tempted by that one cause it's super cool, but performance-wise for the average rider i think you get the best bang for your buck with the Core 4.

@chaynech12 ай бұрын
@Ricks-Rides@Ricks-Rides good to know . Right now the biggest complaint with her previous version core 3 is she does not get along with fox. Especially with the fork, I feel like you have to be aggressive and have some mass. We end up really lowering her pressure but then it gets her in trouble on the big hits. Find it just doesn't have the suppleness like the Lyrik. I have the super deluxe and Lyrik on my stumpjumper evo and it feels amazing.
@Ricks-Rides2 ай бұрын
@@chaynech1 Make's total sense. I've had that same experience with Fox. I watched 20 videos on how to set up the fork and never got it quite right. Either too harsh and stiff, or too light and you bottom out and lose trail responsiveness like what you're describing. My bandaid fix was to turn down the compression a bit, but put in a little extra air. That's honestly the main reason I jumped on the new Core 4 with RockShox - and it's so much better. Sounds like she's a great rider! Wonder if you could find a used Rockshock Pike or something and swap it out if you can't get it dialed?

@Ricks-Rides2 ай бұрын
Hey man, tough question! I think it depends on your skill level and your local trails. I think an EMTB is definitely worth it if you're already a pretty good rider and your local trails allow them. I recently got an ebike cause there's a bike park close to me and I can crank out 2-3x the amount of laps compared to the regular bike. I've gotten way better at riding. If it's first time bike I think I would recommend starting off with a regular bike for most people (unless they they have some sort of physical limitation). Hope that helps.

...I'm not familiar with YT bikes so I hope these aren't too crazy of questions...Do YT bikes come with a lifetime frame warranty...???...the geometry is very similar to the Yeti 140 Lr and the Santa Cruz HighTower but I'm not sure what type of suspension the YT uses compared to the Yeti switch infinity and the Santa Cruz vpp...I did notice an additional pivot point in the frame on the Jeffsy front of the rear axel, (interesting)....also have you had any problems with the pressed in bottom bracket on your previous YT bikes...most bikes now are threaded bottom brackets...and lastly is there anything you would change or wish they had done different on this bike...my last three bikes (all Santa Cruz) were purchased used, I couldn't justify the prices they were asking new ... the pricing YT has definitely makes this bike a smart value purchase...tia...
@Ricks-Rides2 ай бұрын
Hey, great questions. They come with a 5 year frame warranty. YT uses a "Virtual Four Link" suspension system on their bikes. Nothing fancy, which I prefer because it is simple and it works. I don't personally see any benefit to the Yeti switch infinity, just another expensive component to have to worry about and service. I had a creaky bottom bracket on 2018 Jeffsy, so I replaced it. The other 2 have had zero issues. Nothing I would change on the Core 4 version except the brakes. I have not found another bike that comes close to YT value, especially with them being on sale right now. Just know you have to have some basic mechanical skills and will need to put part of the bike together when it is shipped to you and you can't take it right back to the shop you bought it from if there are any issues.

Thanks for the comparison. I have always been wondering whether the chain tensioners on the Commencal make it easier to align the rear wheel perfectly straight? I have the other type on my GT La Bomba and I have to make sure that the screws are sticking out exactly the same length on both sides. Less than 1mm difference can lead to terrible "clunk" noises coming from the drivetrain. So, do the little wheels on the Commencal have clicks? if so you'd only have to count the clicks and make sure you have the same number of clicks on each side. Many thanks in advance for any insights!
@Ricks-Rides3 ай бұрын
Hey great question. That sounds frustrating about the GT. The tensioners that stick out on the YT aren’t that finicky. I don’t have the Commencal any more to double check, but I don’t remember any clicks to count. It was pretty easy to line up the wheel straight though. The bigger issue seemed to always be that it was easy to accidentally make the chain too tight - so just had to watch out for that.

I have the double + 2 more trays. I bought the 3 extension, and cut down to put on the 2 but a touch longer than the 2 stock length. This way I leave the guide bar plate on all the time, it just sandwiches between trays 2 and 3. Again a touch longer to not pinch one's fingers... And for pushing the bikes up once tilted down, just push on both top tubes. The raptor sound is not metal on metal, but rather on the plastic bushings. Loosen, and a touch of silicon lube. If the arms are ever stiff, the just tightened up at the arm and ratchet bar connection. I go between this and my Velocirax 6 depending on needs. Once you have the front wheel free, just pull bike forward. I rarely have to release the rear wheel to get bikes out unless pedals are contacting another bike.

@Ricks-Rides3 ай бұрын
Hi, that’s awesome you got the bike! Yes that’s an issue I’ve had on the Jeffsy as well. So my Decoy came with a pretty tall Acros headset cover that goes under the stem. In the box of extras there was a short/flatter Acros headset/dust cover. I took off the tall one and placed the short one on. Then the shotgun spacer on top of that. Then another spacer (3-5mm?) on top of that for more clearance. Then the stem. Hopefully that makes sense. I will say though that with the bike being so heavy (and me doing some decent sized jumps/drops) the headset seemed to get loose with the shotgun spacer in there so I ended up taking it out for now- which is a bummer cause I love bringing my kids along on the shotgun seat.
