Great history on Fender, James! I can't say I'm the biggest fan of their guitars, even though I own a Yamaha Pacifica which is based on a Strat. I do like the Telecaster shape, it's quite cool, but I've never liked the Jazzmaster. Can't deny how important they are as a guitar brand, many famous guitarists use Fender guitars and amps 🤘🏻🤘🏻

Hi there, first of all great and a very spot on honest review! I’ve got a Marshall JCM800 50W 1X12’ combo. To be more specific the 4210 model made in 1998. For rehearsals I used it in its original state but for live performances I always hooked it up to a 4X12 cab. Killer sounds from the ’80s and ’90s hehe.. :-) I have to say that this pedal simulates the real thing very well! It even got some identical features found on mine. The only thing that’s missing are the raw characteristics of the EL-34’s in the end stage roaring but in my opinion a minor issue. The cab simulator does its job well and of all DSPs I’ve heard and tried out, you can’t go wrong with this pedal in my humble opinion. edit: Oh yeah one more thing I forgot to mention: I miss the reverb on the pedal like on the real amp. It’s a spring reverb and it makes it sound much more massive. Cheers!

Too much gain for a real JCM-800 😉 Still a usable sound that'll fit in a mix. This was Marshall's attempt at the Sansamp DI market iirc. I think companies like Line 6 should look at modelling these, or Marshall look at making an updated version given the market for modellers.
@JamesDorsett1111 күн бұрын
Thanks for the info. Like I said in the video I'm not super familiar with the jcm800 so couldn't totally say how accurate it is. I think it sounds great regardless and I totally agree they should do an undated one now. Would definitely do great in the modelling sort of market like you say
@EltoV10 күн бұрын
@FI4ppers: I think it depends on the model JCM800. My '89 model 4210 has plenty of gain. In the setup I use, I plug my guitar in a Boss GE-7 Equalizer and use the output level to boost, and/or boost or cut certain frequencies to shape the tone of my guitar.
@Fl4ppers10 күн бұрын
@@EltoV Yeah maybe they upgraded it after a year or so. The one Metallica used in the first record also had to be boosted with a maxed tubescreamer.
@EltoV10 күн бұрын
@@Fl4ppers You’re right. I remember watching their DVD “Live Shit,Binge & Purge” which is a documentary about the making of the Black Album) You can watch it on KZbin. Metallica mostly used a JCM 800 as their main amp but between ’88 and 2000 they experimented with different kinds of Mesa Boogies like the IIC+, Mark III and Mark IV and rectifiers and at that time all the new goodies. In their DVD previously mentioned, they even used them in a mix. There is a part halfway through the documentary, creating the rhythm sound of Sad But True by plugging a JCM800 preamp into a Mesa Boogie power stage(or vice versa, I don’t clearly remember) The was THE Ultimate guitar tone at that time :-) It’s a fact that the JCM 800 sill is an icon.

That's a cool piece of kit, especially if you want that Marshall sound for a cheap price. It definitely sounded very AC/DC, which is I guess what they're looking for. I personally wouldn't use it because I don't need it, I've got a Marshall Code and it has a sound similar to this. It has a JCM800 that's very 80's Heavy Metal which I use all the time, and for my own solo project. Does everything I want it to 😁😁🤘🏻🤘🏻
@Standbackforscience15 күн бұрын
Interesting conversation. Also a solo musician, thinking about releasing work, and grappling with formats. I was an 80's kid, and have always been an avid music fan and collector of things, so I either collected or still collect all the formats. That also means I know the frustration of mediums that don't last - I've had plenty of chewed up tapes and scratched records. The bulk of my collection is still CD, because it just keeps the longest. I get that CD isn't loved though, because its main selling points are, well, its combined selling points : cheapest to make, longest to last, easiest to store, etc etc. It's like a format invented by a marketing team. It doesn't sound warm like analog, and it holds pitifully little data as digital goes, but if you're in for the long haul, CD is the little engine that could.

Interesting video James! I myself are part of a community here on YT all about collecting physical media, it's called the Vinyl Community. Just from watching those guys videos it's clear that physical media, especially vinyl is as strong as it's ever been. However, the problem with that is the prices of physical media are increasing because they know they can charge more now. Big vinyl boxsets are like £100 at least, it's crazy when you think in the 80's a single vinyl was a couple of quid! On the CD's, I'm a huge collector of CD's, always have been. It'll be sad to see that format die out, but it might make them even cheaper which isn't a bad thing for me! The 2 main reasons as to why I like collecting CD's is because they're cheap and they're easy to store. Plus it's supporting the artist in some form. I totally understand the dilemma with selling your music physically. I had the same issue, but what I did was build myself up with the community I'm in, made friends and when it came to releasing my music, I had a couple of buyers waiting. What I did was make a small batch of CD's very DIY, put them on Bandcamp and I managed to get some sales doing that. I'm not sure if that's the route you wanna go, or if it's very helpful. But that's just my experience for what it's worth 😊🤘🏻

second hand japanese gibson copy like a tokai or a greco would probably be better value. especially for first album a les paul would be a better value option. as someone else mentioned wems are £300 and a valvestate 8080 £100. then you need a tube screamer and a tape delay. tc gauss echo and a behringer ts copy are £100 for both. all in in that should be less than £800. which is a fair bit cheaper

you can get a marshall valvestate and a wem dominator for less than you paid for that vox, i see WEMs going for around £300, and marshall valvestates for £100-200. me personally i get basically all the way there with an epiphone sheraton and an SL drive into any clean amp, and its close enough for me.
