In defence of Stronghart being obviously based on Gant, this isn't exclusive to him. Obviously, the comparison between Kazuma and Mia was pointed out, but also Van Zieks is clearly based around Edgeworth. The last two cases of TGAA are basically a combination of DL-6 and SL-9 (So Turnabout Goodbyes and Rise from the Ashes) with Van Zieks being the Edgeworth equivalent. 2-4 even references Von Karma in the title.

Because we got the GAA games as a collection, it felt more like one ten case game than two five case games. And with how interconnected the cases are, and GAA1-5 feeling more like a midpoint in the overarching plot, it feels like these games are best experienced as a whole package anyway.

As far as his hobo Wright stint being brushed under the rug goes, I wonder/headcanon that the master poker player masterfully playing his aces is just how he looks when we’re not in his head. Half his stumbling is inner thoughts, the other half comes from directly seeing him under fire, and Apollo Justice is the one game where we don’t really get either save for the middle portions of the final case. That said, in terms of Dual Destinies “doing its own thing”, I’d levy that criticism more at Apollo randomly having ties to the space station stuff. Apollo’s changing backstory is another joke, but I can at least reconcile his Khura’in ties with the Apollo we meet in his first game. And yet his connections to the Dual Destinies final cases just do not gel.

It's stupid how fucked up the Ace Attorney world really is (especially in the Apollo Trilogy). But only when the games remind you of that cuz damn, to me it was kinda hard to understand the plot of AJ and DD cuz the characters always said stuff about the dark age of the law and im like "since when? Why? Show me what is causing the dark age of the law!" And the only way to actually know how bad things are, is to literally stop playing and go back to the previous games. I really, REALLY HATE this stupid rule of the games not having spoilers from the previous games. They don't feel like sequels to each other, they just feel like a cartoon with the "villain of the week" and "the big arc of THIS season". And the only real way to feel like these characters changed is to simply stop playing and look back, constantly to even know WHAT the new game is referencing cuz they sure won't do that for you. The world of Ace Attorney could feel just so much more alive If they didn't forget huge parts of previous games, like literally the initial part of THIS video.

The fact we can reasonably tie Rodger to this entire dark age of the law plot line via a bit of speculation just makes me even more angry that such a great potential big bad for ace attorney 7 via his ties to the Gramaryes just makes me annoyed that in spirit of justice he’s a one of villain in the second case! Honestly he’d even be a better final boss then Mrs evil queen who’s got the depth of a plastic cup. Hell if they kept him around they could have Rodger could have basically had ties to the every important plot within the AJT. Making him a perfect final boss… but no just have him put behind bars during the second case which takes place on the main land. In a game that was supposed to focus on an entirely different country.

Honestly the entire part of Stronghart in the final case being too damn obvious is fair. Though in comparison to how you discussed Gant, I personally think Stronghart not playing up any friendly facade works to his benefit. But because Stronghart is right there, you know have zero reason to entertain Kazuma as one. It kills the tension when you think you’ve hit dead ends in that case because you’re not facing the guy you already know did it. But then you’re sitting there going is there even other suspects?! And it feels like the game is treating you stupid. And Kazuma feels the same way when Barok is taken off the suspect list and HE loses hope. He doesn’t think hmm. I actually really gave a shit about and got invested in). Strongheart while obvious seeming was still able to let me get my gaurd down slightly. And it being on par with Investigations is utter blasphemy. The first investigations is just the worst. And the second while far better I don't see why people call it one of the best outside of comparing it to the first one. It was far better but it's highest. Moments fell between shadow of Apollo Justice and Dual, and I really don't feel if they stuck the landing. Do I fan boy for this collectio lot? Also also (fourth comment in a row.) Is it a very hot take to say that while I enjoy the new mechanics of this game thematically, they really dont offer much in terms of gameplay? The jury feels like an additional testimony in between testimonies, with just a different way of objecting. They usually are very drawn out and talk about utter nonesense often unrelated to the trial, just to show off the WACKY jurors. The moment they start to get a hang of it and we finally get a set of new jurors in case 8, they just throw the mechanic out the window. To strip the game of its crucial core mechanic for its climax is not a great choice in my opinion. (Also, narratively the summation examination is really silly how its utterly rigged in the defenses favor and somehow its "a forgotten technicality" nobody uses despite it having no drawbacks and not even allowing the prosecution to say a word) Dance of Deduction is the one with the most potential with spicing up the investigations, but I think they went too hard on the stupid juice for Sholmes. The segments feel twice as long as they need to be, because the flaws in Sholmes' reasoning are massive. Its always a matter of examining the right thing on the set and not actually trying to think about it too hard, because its so blatantly obvious. And the fact you have to go over them twice (once as Sholmes initially presents it and once correcting him) does really pat it out in my eyes. It's only ever playful fun banter and not really figuring out the mystery. Except the last two, they are great. And the multiple witnesses returning from the crossover is just bad. It only encourages pressing every statement (something the game kinda expects you to do either way, but its not always nessescary). There is no skill involved because you always get a giant exclamation mark when someone wants to say something during those. Especially since they usually come up during digressions about digressions. But then the game also lets you ignore it for some reason. There's literally no reason to ingore them so i dont know why the game still leaves the option to do so. The only time the game did something different was in the Eggert/Gregson bit when they turned their backs, but with never telling the player that something like this can happen was cheap and not clever at all, especially since it happening wasnt even related to the pressed statement. The crossover did it in a much more interesting way, where you had to ignore statements like in the case of Birdly, find weaknesses within a group of witnesses and such. In general it was just a lot more engaging and difficult in the Layton crossover, especially during the 10 knights cross examination.

To me it also always felt like the duology was originally concieved as a trilogy, considering how the first game is very slow and the second very fast. How case 8 feels like a finale case, how Courtney Sithe seems like she was set up as a much bigger antagonistic force with her ties to the conspiracy. As well as the whole Ryutaro buisness appearing to be cut short, when it possible couldve been longer, since Susato's absence is very brief and the intro case not playing a bit role in the grand scheme of things. It feels like Susato was to uncover at leas "something". But it might be just me.

I genuinely really enjoy the more critical appraoch tot he finale, as it is often regarded as "one of the best" which I do believe is a little bit of recency bias speaking through people. For being one of the final bosses, as well as a one of the highest ranked judges in Japan, Jikogu's line of defense was quite pathetic. Maybe as a distraction, but I definetly still like the Gregson stuff way more than the Reaper/Professor stuff. Mainly because the entire case mystery and the witnesses are very fun. (I even like the redheads) Although, its really weird how Ryu was ableto flip the entire case on its head just because Vigil thought he saw red ink and with minimal evidence Ryu prooved that Klimt was the Professor. It's also weird how Stronghart just randomly opened about to it tell him "Good job, Mr Naruhodo" and explained everything. Also appealing twice that everything was totally justified, no one ever, even Barok questioning the fact that Klimt had a dog which matched the Professor's victims and the fact Genshin never owned a dog (which he couldnt even bring from Japan, even if he did). And for all that to end with a deus ex machina that Sholmes invented a holographic phone they just brought to the Queen so she can defeat Stronghart. It really lessens the impact of "The Resolve of Ryunosuke Naruhodo" (both in as the case and the big moment) when his resolve, ultimately boils down to Stronghart admiting to everything out of his own violition and Ryunosuke making a phonecall.
