I have one of these machines and the bobbin is locked up. Im not sure what i did for it to do this? Just before it jamed i got somevthread raped around the bobin holder. Do have any ideas on what caused it? I've had the machine for 15 years and this is thecfirst time its happened?

For those who are watching and own this or a similar Bernina machine: The thread should be put behind that little hook at the bottom of the needle bar and not left flapping around in the breeze like this ;-)

I acquired one. A magnificent machine in powder blue and cream, with lots of chrome like a vintage 60's car. Such styling! Mine is branded Simon. Go figure. It turns out these machines were made by Koyo Sewing Machine company in Tokyo, Japan from 1957- 1962 approximately. I know my machine was bought new in that date range. It is all metal inside, and the ease of access for cleaning is fantastic. I use mineral spirits alcohol mix and a toothbrush to scrub down all parts - metal (and plastic internals) and only alcohol for external finish cleaning. WD-40 also works for hard to reach areas. Wipe it all off after cleaning, and lube with Triflow silicone lube and grease. These machines had no brand name. They were branded for American companies. Some of the brand names they used for the same machines were Simon (mine-rare), Remington, Stradivaro, Alden (common), Universal (common), Dressmaker (common), and more. I find these magnificent mechanical machines. Mine weighs 34.4 lbs or 15.6 kg, so heavy. Regarding belts and parts - Take measurement of your belts and locate generic belts same size and shape. Do not buy used belts! Do not let oil or solvent fall on belts. Wash with soap, dry, put on machine. Make sure you clean wheel belt grooves with some mineral spirits and steel wool to remove old rubber belt residue, then wipe with alcohol to remove all grease for good traction. Bobbin rubber wheel - use your imagination and find a grommet or such that fits it. If you do, let us all know. Manuals - look for your model number manual on Ebay. Some clever sellers are scanning the old manuals and selling cheaper as file download so you can print it on your end. This is much better than a tattered yellowing manual. Choose glossy paper for a brand new manual. I checked Manualslib.com but could not find the exact manual. They are free downloads here. Bobbins - These are pretty standard. Most have the same diameter of top and bottom, it is the stem width that varies. Donut hole inside should fit your bobbin winder, but is pretty standard, as are the two discs diameter. If bobbin is too fat on the stem, it will stick out from bobbin case, if too thin on stem, it will rattle inside not be snug. That is all you need to know. My Bobbin - has holes both sides: Diameter: 20 mm or 13/16”, Outside Stem Width: 10 mm or 6/16” This is a very common bobbin size available everywhere. Note: Temu.com (Chinese type Amazon) sells these very cheap. Most 'Universal' or 'Alden' or 'Dressmaker' model bobbin cases should fit. Just compare yours to other new bobbin cases. If you don't know how to thread it, look for a manual that is similar to your machine. I have given you all the brand names - it is the same machine with some variation in decoration. I cannot believe people are asking about how to thread a machine. Look at it, it is self explanatory. Thread goes front to back usually, and passes tension knob. Duh. Find the manual! My sewing cabinet was branded Stradivaro but sewing machine was branded Simon. These cabinets were solid wood with a mahogany or walnut veneer, very compact and lovely, with Deco brass handles. Mine came to me in horrible shape, finish worn off and bone dry wood. I will be refinishing this gem soon. The original labels are selling for $50 on ebay. So hang on to it including label. I want to modernize my cabinet with a linear actuator lift in the back instead of the swing down hinge nonsense. These hinges bear a heavy weight and damage the wood. Add the lift, it is easy - Amazon. If your machine does not work well, it is 100% your fault for not cleaning it, using crappy oil, and not lubing it well. Stop whining, and start cleaning. It is not self cleaning! Mechanical things need maintenance regularly, like wind up watches. However, unlike the modern stuff, these things are heirloom pieces that will live forever, that is why they have a cult following. Yes, I drive a stick shift car and love it. For those of you that complain this video is not teaching you enough about your machine, be happy that you have a discussion forum to gain insights and tips. Do your own legwork. You are using a left binding foot to sew. You might consider a left and right presser foot, this will make a lot of difference in you sewing. You have a binding foot, however your needle plate is not for binding, it is for a normal left and right walking foot. Hope you come right.
