Just make sure to fuse your positive wires from the solar panels to the charge controller and from the charge controller to the batteries as well as the load (positive wire) to the inverter. 1.25 times the amount of amps you are putting through the wires. Look at the back of the solar panels and it will tell you how many amps they produce. Also there are diagrams from American wire gauge to make sure you are sizing your wires correctly so that they don’t start a fire. Overall good job, you know a lot more than the average person setting up solar.
@FarmBoyRN8 ай бұрын
Mario, Sweet, that is very helpful! I actually did blow the built in charge controller fuse (20 amp) by touching the hardwired charge controller output wires once or twice…I learned hard way to not do that! Appreciate your feedback, will definitely check out what you mentioned. -Caleb
@svenshanah7 ай бұрын
Good practice, and wouldn't hurt..but those tiny panels won't be tripping diddly. He's only running 200w total, all combined. He'd need one tiny little breaker to be helpful, and even in full sun it won't create enough to trip anything but the smallest breaker or blow the smallest fuse..a scenario that won't ever happen unless some sort of damage creates a short. He just doesn't have the power yet. Couldn't hurt to put 'em there for the future tho. My smallest array is 10 x's that, and my breaker has never tripped..it's only serves as a disconnect for maintenance.
@caleb58877 ай бұрын
@@svenshanah Hey @svenshanah, appreciate your feedback, wanted to see what you thought: when I touched my DC out red and black wires (actually my janky wires I got clamped to the fridge in the video) that’s when I blew my 20 amp fuse (twice, actually!). The battery bank holds 150amp hours of juice, maybe that blew my fuse, not the 200watt array? I agree the array is minimal, but enough for what it needs to do. Funny side story: the harbor freight stuff is crap, and has the fuse INSIDE of the charge controller, so both times I had to take the dumb thing apart and replace it internally. Finally, on my second dumb short of the 20 amp fuse, I drilled holes in the face of the plastic and soldered on 2 wires coming out the front, and put the fuse outside the box. You actually can see it sticking up on the left top side of the charge controller in part of the video halfway through. Haha! My dumb mistakes. Actually I was proud of myself thinking of wiring the fuse outside the controller…even if not professional. Again, thanks for feedback @svenshanah

Instead of keeping hundreds of dollars in cash, get a credit card with no annual fee, no min balance AND is lockable. I keep one in my travel wallet for that reason. I keep about $100 in 20’s for spending money, and a CapitalOne Freedom card with a $10k limit. If I get robbed, I am out $100 instead of $500, and the credit card is locked and useless to the robber. But if I need big money for a hotel room, a plane ticket, new clothes, an emergency… I have $10,000 at my disposal. Another way to think about it, is that credit card doesn’t cost me anything to NOT use it. If I keep, $500 in my wallet, I am out $500.
@FarmBoyRN9 ай бұрын
Of course! I also carry credit card (2) separately. So if your credit card gets stolen and you are out in middle of a foreign country, it’s nice to have enough cash to get somewhere else. And usually your phone is stolen at the same time, I’ve noticed. That’s why some cash and or very nice people near by are helpful after phone and credit card get snagged. I also go to aid locations where there are disasters and phones/credit cards don’t work, FYI. Thanks for your feedback, definitely keep credit cards on your self too for everyday things.
