Interesting video which got me thinking. Our van is similar age to yours (Hymer) and we had the exhaust sensor (controls the start/stop option) replaced early on and later, 3 glow plugs - yes 3! A few months after getting the van it wouldn't start, so we put jumpers on it. After taking it back to the dealer in Stafford, they confirmed some duff cells in the starter battery and replaced it. All work done under warranty. Could it have been the spike/surge from the jumpers that caused these problems? I've always been careful to disconnect the ehu before turning on the ignition. It does seem obvious to me that Fiat sensors are not great quality - I've now had a solar panel fitted and battery voltage is usually where it should be - so hopefully no need for jumpers in future!

Very Informative video just a pity it wasn’t a Fiat based vehicle. I would love to hear some feedback from the owners to what difference it’s made. Two main reasons why I would consider is the ability to raise the ground clearance and the comfort along with how it makes a difference on the road. I’ve been quoted £9000 for my Fiat based Swift Escape 674 it is a lot of money but when you consider the amount of parts and labour to install you can see why it’s such a lot of money but probably a good investment. Great video looking into the details. Thanks for sharing.

Many thanks for that Mick and you are of course right regarding the fairly substantial price tag but I agree there was a lot more to it than I realised and we too are considering our next addition in that respect so it was good to see it going on 'Betty'. I also agree it probably is a good value for money addition and once again I liked A&E's installation work :) If you are Alko it would be very similar underneath too. Now that we have the Semi Air I don't think I'd go full air, at the moment, but still would love self levelling instead - oh the choices !!

Enjoy your informative and entertaining videos, I have a question, have you seen the video/ news of the lady whose Hymer rolled over in Morocco only to be told that her fully comp ins was only applicable in roads, and the other news that in Europe Fully comp is only 3rd party. So you buy fully comp and expect the same in Europe. What is a made up road?
@motorhomingadventures
@motorhomingadventures 22 күн бұрын
Many thanks for that Ianrea, much appreciated. If I intend to travel to a Non-EU country then my first conversation would be with my current insurer to see what level of cover they give. Your example of Morocco is a non-EU country so the Green Card cover that is often part of your current insurer may not work. The Green Card gives a minimum level of cover which, as you say, may not be fully comp cover!! That would potentially account for no cover if you roll your own vehicle as there is no third party apparently in this example :( Your own insurer would tell you what level of cover you have when abroad on 'Green Card' cover! So you're right that you need to understand what EU cover is provided by your insurer AND what non-EU cover is provided IF relevant to your travel plans, plus of course whether you need any other driving permits for Non-EU countries. You may well be able to purchase additional insurance for EU and non-EU travel to get 'fully comp' style cover but I've personally not done that. I guess a good breakdown service is also really important especially if you want your vehicle repatriated! I agree it is a bit of a minefield and I would say better to ask all the questions before you go so you can be well prepared for those unpleasant moments!! This is the Govt own advice page: www.gov.uk/vehicle-insurance/driving-abroad RAC European Driving advice is here: www.rac.co.uk/drive/travel/driving-in-Europe/

@motorhomingadventures 29 күн бұрын
I’m pretty sure it’s about your vehicle footprint so I would say NOT the Go Toll as there is no mention of Gross Train Weight (van plus trailer) just the TPMLM of the van which qualifies for the Vignette system at that weight. It specifically says there’s no extra charge for trailers, caravans, or sidecars so that adds to my thought that it’s just your own van weight 😀🚌☀️

Many thanks for watching Eric and it could be part of a package to ‘upweight’ a vehicle. A&E are able to carry out ‘upweight’ changes and a chat with their Team would answer that in relation to the specific vehicle you may have in mind and the measures therefore required to increase the Maximum Technically Permissable Load Mass (MTPLM) - it’s very vehicle specific and therefore not a straightforward answer 😀🚌

Interesting. Thank you for this. I'm in two minds on my solar upgrade - panels in series or parallel? I note you opted for series which may be less efficient if any part of one panel is shaded?
@motorhomingadventures
@motorhomingadventures Ай бұрын
Thanks for watching GD and I went series as the wiring required was less 'heavy duty' and the configuration should be more efficient across the 'solar day'. The mobility of the van means if I anticipate needing max power I chose the appropriate parking space with no shade which is easy. Having parked partially under trees once it didn't affect the live solar generation much at all so I've not yet seen the shade effect !! I think at the end of the day I just preferred to work with slightly lighter guage wiring - being a beginnner !!! Hope that makes sense :)

Hi Bob. I'm looking for a neat as possible solution to transport my Triumph and 2 electric mountain bikes behind our A class. Using a longitudinal trailer means adding between 3 and 3.5m to my 6.3m vehicle (not great for aires although it has a short overhang) so I've just started speaking to CMF about amending one of their units to fit my Thule 591 bike carrier either side of the motorbike or either side of the upright. Now you've had yours for a while, how do you find reversing overall as I've seen lost of comments around it being a nightmare? I'm guessing they are just very sensitive to small adjustments?I've seen the castor type versions but either very expensive or there are too many other compromises. Thanks
@motorhomingadventures
@motorhomingadventures Ай бұрын
Evening Ged and that sounds a good idea as it’s only about 1.6m back from the van. CMF can do the full chequer plate base for our version which would enable the electric bikes to be added in the way you describe. I used to have an L200 with a twin axle Ifor Williams trailer which was about 3.5m back but this little CMF one is easier to handle as it needs such little input which is ideal on sites to get it backed in etc. I have to say in Europe there were just about always pitches you could just drive into anyway if you asked 😀 With a good reversing camera it’s very straightforward. I looked at the castor version but didn’t like it’s instability when NOT attached to the van whereas the CMF version can be detached while loaded - and pushed v carefully !! (Main weight is forward of the axle) The castor version was also more complicated to put together than the quick hitch up of CMF. CMF can store upright for minimal space use. Personally- CMF style every time!! 😀

Fantastic Phillip and really glad you had a great experience like us. They do a great job and I’m seeing them again soon so will pass on your thanks although James will probably see this 😀👍🚌

How do you find Sygic truck, I've considered it myself but had read a few bad reviews, it'll be interesting to hear your opinion. Congratulations on your new grandson🎉

Thank you indeed for the congrats - he’s a star of course 😍 As for Sygic - love it - not sent us the wrong way so far in 18 months or so and perfect for the moho 🎉🚌

What were the chances!! Ireland is high on my list of ‘return to’ places 😀 after holidaying there a few times. There’s a stack of setup options with Sygic and if you take the time to do that detail you can get it running really well for your route preferences 😀

Nice one. I stayed at the same site in Colmar two years ago. It wasn’t as busy then but I was there in April. Very helpful people in the office. Lovely old town. I need to go back soon 👍
