I was in the cab with one other NRHS member, and the engineer. We picked the switch which put the back trucks on the ground first. We were asked to exit the locomotive while they tried to re-rail it. Since myself and the other individual were the only two out on the row, I got some good pictures. Rail & ties were damaged, along with some damage to the GP9.

Scenes like this bring back great memories of train travel across the USA during the 1950s and 60s. The Golden Years. Some UPRR calendars had the stills of modern equipment, but in these fabulous settings along the tracks.

If they were to try doing any serious work, the two of these together would be overkill. You're looking at 12,000 horses going down the line right there.

Excellent sequence - scale model then the real thing. I witnessed the first tram run along Istiklal after the line was rebuilt recently. I am considering building and motorising an Occre kit, as you have done. Does the kit come with pre-painted panels, or did you paint and line them yourself?
@Rail-Rody3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The build is a lot of fun and motorizing it and including the lighting is a nice challenge. Nothing is pre-painted but the lining is done with stickers. So you first give the sides a base-coat of white and then but the stickers on. After which you glue the wooden framing over the stickers (painting the frame red before gluing).

I always loved the geese. I worked on the 7 back in the 1990s. They are an absolute blast to run.
@Rail-Rody4 жыл бұрын
That sounds very fun! It seems like it’s similar to driving a manual car, just with the addition of the air-brakes, is that right?
@rgsrrofnc4 жыл бұрын
@@Rail-Rody Well... it's a bit more complex than that. Sure you do not steer it but you have 3 brakes on the motor, a band brake on the driveshaft, a hand brake which connects to the same lever the air brakes (straight air) connects to. You also have the horn and bell to actuate. And the flanger control is to the lower left. The accelerator is on the floor along with the starter. You have a 5 speed transmission and a reversing transmission added by the scrapper. The Museum kept that which was handy when we only had the horseshoe of a track. And the sander which is by a pull lever in the cab. You have various lights and so on as well. And it can move. It has amazing acceleration and once up to speed, it gallops and waddles. It lives up to its name.
@Rail-Rody4 жыл бұрын
@@rgsrrofnc I did not mean to make it sound easy or less complex than it is. Is the accelerator like a car so you have to keep your foot on the pedal if you want to accelerate or does it function like a throttle on a locomotive with a lever?
@rgsrrofnc4 жыл бұрын
@@Rail-Rody It's a car. Foot petal (actually more of a nub when I was there) that accelerates the motor like a regular car.
