On our trip to see the Great Race to Ogden in May 2019 we had a spare day after the celebrations at Promontory Summit and before the return of the Union Pacific Big Boy & #844 to Cheyenne. So we decided to ride the Heber Valley Railroad. When we arrived in Heber City we found out the train was not running that day.
Before we arrived, a locomotive and a heavyweight passenger car derailed just outside of the Heber City yard. Re-railing the 6-axle car proved to be quite difficult. It took more than 2,5 hours to get the passenger car back on track.
It was very nice to see the team-effort of the Heber Valley Railroad crew and fortunately nobody got hurt!
