Better genre naming than "survivorlike". I also notice it overlaps sometimes with different other genres like twin stick shooters like Alien Shooter. If the game isn't a flat restricted to x and y axis movements only, will it be a "bullet heaven" or similar to VS anymore?

When you tell someone in the modern day "there's a sick new rouge like" they don't think "oh hoo ray a new game inspired by the original rouge game." They think " oh cool and rpg type thing where you die a bunch and play with the mechanics."

If you want an alternative to D2R, but still want D2, Project Diablo 2 is the way to go

Wildfrost is an amazing rouguelike deckbuilder. Each run isn't long, but every encounter is important, and the game just feels good to play. It's got tons of replayability, and the music absolutely slaps. If you just want to see how it plays, a guy named Zips has been playing the game almost exclusively for a while, and he's pretty good.
