Yes, that’s true of wild bananas - they reproduce sexually with other banana plants, ie pollination. Commercial varieties reproduce vegetatively, meaning there is no pollination involved. New ones will grow from near the base of the first plant; these are often referred to as “pups”

Yes, you can keep it in a bucket. It's advisable especially if you live in a cold climate, so you can bring it in your garage when it freezes.
