So let me add some stories behind this hotel. Ethiopia before 1900 there was no commercially operating hotel in Ethiopia. The tradition in those times was "Its shame for some one to charge his/her gust for what he eats or the bed he sleeps for the night." Emperor Minilik wanted to change this situation therfore helped his wife establish this first hotel in Ethiopia. During the day of the inauguration he invited all noble mans and military leaders and paid his tickets...all the noble man and officers surprised and so say the emperor "Every one who eats at this house and sleep on its bed will be charged." Therfore all the nobility and officers paid their receipts. Several diplomats who were hungry of a good hotel started to flock to Taitu, then locals especially those who started to return from their foreign studies, and educated persons, military officers starts to spend time there. In a very short period several business follow the lead. In not more than 120 years Addis Ababa and the entire country became full of hotels up and down the country. Leaderships is key, Leadership have to brake the existing trend if the society have to change. This is one finest story about hotels in ethiopia. This story could even be translated into an amazing movie.

There's such a nice aura around this doctor and his Ethiopian wife! Beautiful ambiance! I ate Injira for the first time at Addis Ababa International airport in 2014 during my layover (I know, I know, they don't sell the authentic one at the airport). Coming from rough and tumble India, Ethiopia was a breath of fresh air! People are so friendly and accommodating it was unbelievable! My dream is to travel the length and breadth of Africa one day!

Yesterday, I gave Mike a Yoda pen. We talked for a little bit. He said that originally they were going to put a B-52 (I think) bomber on the restaurant. The city said it wasn't up to code. He's a real nice guy. Merry Christmas to Mike and everyone at Mike's Place.
