2 seconds of the intro filter sweep, and you know: it‘s an Oberheim. Digital synths can‘t do that.

I had one in about 2005. I bought it from a guy in Atlantic City for 3000. I moved out to California, and Kevin Lightner worked on it. I never thought it sounded that good. I sold it for 3500, and to this day I still have 3 minimoogs, obx, obxa, ppg 2.3, prophet vs, 4 Taurus 1 pedals. I don’t regret selling it.

You WIN! What a massive synth. Always hard to work with 8 notes especially split. Looks like new, wow.

Still very surprised Sequential didn’t put out an updated Prune (ProOne) so people outside the Prophet desktop budget could still get some vintage vibes from the company. Maybe a project plan sidelined by Dave’s passing and the Focusrite acquisition.

Nicely done. I truly believe that this is one of the best analogue synths ever created. Wonderful design layout too. I have the iPad app, and it’s likely as close as I will ever come to owning one. Cheers.

It’s bizarre that Roland will not remake this synthesizer. It was one of the best of the era along with the Prophet 5 and 10, the Oberheim X, Xa, and 8, and Memorymoog. The Prophet’s and Oberheim’s have been brought back to life. The Mini Moog, Korg MS-20 and ARP Odyssey as well. These iconic synths are coming back to deliver another shot of brilliance. Roland should absolutely bring this synth back.

Roland did release the Jupiter 80 which was a really cool synth but eh... wasn't really a really remake so much as it was a workstation with a similar name. If there was ever gonna be a remake, I'm betting Behringer would jump on that before Roland would.

Rosen Sound rebuilt (and MIDIfied) my OBXa a couple years back. Excellent excellent work and reasonable rates. Sounds better than it did in '82.

Real good demonstration!!! My favorite Polysynth from Roland. 🎹Rosen I wanted to ask you, would you recommend me to read "The Invention and Impact of the Moog Synthesizer"? It's a book from Harvard, and I'm currently studying my first engineering year, with interest with electronics branch. And of course, I want to deep dive into Synthesizers.

and here it is 2024 / listened to this analog synthesizer / and you understand that something is happening in the VST-digital world - crap and degradation / and where is the exit???? to the analog console + tape + analog synths - now impossible / a nightmare end of music in the world of Daw and VST

stack the same patch on top of eachother and they naturally detune a bit. Now You have a 4 voice 4 Osc synth with all the parameters adjustable per layer. it’s fun, but I still prefer a Prophet 5 or a Jupiter 6.

I remember the keys player in the band got one of these and it had tuning problems. On power-up you had to wait till all 6 'whatevers' were in tune, and if they weren't all in tune then you were goosed. That having been said, I remember the strings sound it had was the bomb, like walking into Heaven and all cares gone, forever..
