Jimmy Page wanted either Steve Marriot or Terry Reid to front Zeppelin. Neither were interested, so he hired an unknown wildman from the Black Country.

I'm sure I can hear 2 guitars. While Terry is chopping away, there are distinct struck chords from time to time. I just looked up the River album details and found the track did have a second guitarist, David Lindley. As this was a promotion for that album, I think we're hearing Ye Olde Backing Track.

Robert Plant is right. This guy was better than him in his prime. I really wonder what he could've done for Led Zeppelin had he joined them when he was invited.

He wasn't better than Plant in his prime. The recorded Zep show at Copenhagen 71' proves it. Unmatched power even in the highest of registers. These comparisons are invalid anyway.

This tribute to Healy stirred memories of some fine singers from yesteryear. Thanks to Paul Healy for sharing, I can only say, 'Yesterday just passed my way again''.

I remember going with John Healy to White House bar in Holytown. He asked me to go with him as he was booked to sing at a ladies night. He was concerned as he didn't want to be the only guy there.. He was at his very best in those days, singing Diana, Sweet Dreams etc.
@Dean67Ай бұрын
Hi John, thanks for sharing those memories. When I was speaking with Healy’s son Paul about this tribute night for his Dad, one thing that stuck out for him was when Doc was singing Sweet Dreams, you can see him smile, that was to Betty Healy, with the two of them acknowledging the significance of the song. There was a few fundraisers for Healy, at least 3, one of which he was able to perform at near the end of his life. This was apparently filmed too, so I’m hoping his voice will be once again heard in the not too distant future!

Yes I was at one in Carfin. He was helped onto the stage . Even though his breathing was not good he was able to belt out Diana. Breathing in between verses 2:03

@@Copastheman1 A huge testament to the man himself that despite his body failing him, he was still able to push through and perform even at that stage of his life. At the end of the original video, there was an image of Healy in his chair performing with a live band and what looks like Jim McCorry standing next to him - could’ve been at Carfin or the other fundraiser which I believe was at the Newarthill Inn.

I've played music for many, many years, with good bands and bad and in the end, it didn't matter so long as, at some point while playing with others, you hit that exact impromptu jam at the 3:00 mark. There is no feeling in the world like catching a groove.

Well, I'd forgotten about Terry's voice... I guess there actually was someone who could've taken Marriott's place had HP decided to do so. But, Reid did turn down Jimmy Page's attempt to recruit him as vocalist for Led Zep before he asked Robert Plant ....Reid didn't join but he tolde Jimmy he should check out this drummer named John Bonham ...and....I understand he did the same when Ritchie Blackmore tried to get him to replace Rod Evens in Deep Purple before he asked Ian Gillan. But, you gotta like what Terry said, when asked, "why?"...he replied, "if you ain't loving it....get out!!...."or....if it's only money that you want to be impressed...get a job!" At least he lived his life as he chose.
