I remember seeing advertisement for Splatoon 1... I never played the game, I didn't even have a Wii U, but seeing the advertisements... it looked so good... it looked like a world strangely appealing to me, a world that felt like street and paintball, city and community, semi-rebelous and appealing to young. And yet I was never attracted to any of that. I was always a model kid and never cared for any of that street, I never wanted to not do it, and it's still like this. After all I never had Splatoon 1... I was interested in it, and it felt weird because it seemed like everything I didn't like... Switch gets released, and with it a new Splatoon game, it was time. This time I could play this one. I wanted to be kid and be squid and shoot paint. ... "You need Nintendo online... Associate your account..." .... Well shoot... I played the hero campaign and had lot fun, and it's all I ever did on it... Then Octo expansion. Never played it too, as much as I'd like to. However, it is thanks to it that a big Splatoon phase started for me and internet. I watched how the expansion played, the story and everything else, I started to get interested in all the lore and characters. It was one of the first time, but certainly not the last, that I became absolute fan of something I never played or barely. Splatoon 3 comes out. "Should I take it? The same online problem plays here, and I'va already watched a let's play... That's not such a good idea..." My grandma got it. Well time to go through Alterna. Side order. Same as Octo expansion... It was 10 years ago the first game released. I saw those ads as a 8 year old. This world so strange that I wanted despite being full of what I don't want. The games evolved and me with it. The vibes of the first game feel so old school now, a weird world that I have never been part of, that was so close, everywhere in our workd, those vibes of street and young... Now it becimes Kirby with cute on the outside, ridiculously deep lore and charaters in actuality. Kirby that became my absolute favorite franchise in the same time frame. But anyway, speaking of vibes... they are simething so weird and yet so important to me, the way something makes me feel... a gamew a show, an art... it's the vibes, it's always vibes, it's at the center of my own self and my tastes. And Splatoon 1 and 2 had an absolutely unique vibes that appealed to me for some reason, and I am very thankful to that, even if I could bately played them both. It is now Octo expansion and Splatoon 3, and I played it as much, and it evilved with mew and coincidentally in the same direction. Do I prefer it now? Yes actually. But those first games, those advertisements, I thank them. For those vibes, those stranges vibes that were the only thing to give me AND be interesting to me despite them being so common at the time, those vibes I've seen for almost all my childhood everywhere and yet, some years later, they have dissapeared like nothing. Thank you Splatoon.

Hm... No, you're not. I mean, the character is not. But the player? The player is an adult for decades. I'm not thinking about me, although I have been an adult for a while: adults play games since the 70s. In the context of Splatoon, "you're an adult" does not ressonate with my way of looking at gaming history or the Splatoon franchise. Even though STILL TODAY people dare to say "Splatoon is for kids". Which is pure ignorance. The franchise is for all ages since the beginning. A LOT of kids don't care about it and can't play competitively. And I'm not attacking them by saying that. Actually, a lot of Nintendo games aren't for kids in the sense that they can be too challenging for many. So, with all due respect for kids and games designed for kids let's appretiate and respect the developers that are also designing games for themselves and for adults like themselves. And probably 99% of them were kids playing games, sure. It's just that the idea of only kids play games or games are for kids is so outaded and prejudice filled that it grinds my gears.

Man, I remember in middle school my friends would come over on weekends, we'd order pizza and play the hell out of splatfests in our living room. Although replicable, I really miss that old school feeling. Gaming has changed so much now. To think Splatoon came out pretty much 10 years ago, damn 😦

9:20 how true, so many moments where the character says "this has to stop" referring to the insane repetition of the combat against waves of enemies. And it totally works for the player on an emotional level.

Xenoblade 3 straight up gave me PTSD Literally everything from the cutscenes, to the characters, to the music, and even to the goddamn world makes me cry. I cried when they all went Ouroboros against Moebius K and the weight of life started playing. Then came Chapter 5 and 6, I literally had to stop playing and call one of my friends because I wouldn't stop crying, The end of the game went about the same way. I nearly threw myself on the bed when they did that flashback scene in Melia's ascension quest. Then Future Redeemed had me so satisfied yet so depressed, I straight up felt like there was just this huge void in my heart after finishing the DLC. There will never be a more personal franchise for me, It is my most greatest inspiration.

The bath scene in XC3 is actually narratively important lol. It shows that they don't get embarrassed by nudity. It is ment to be contrasted with the scene where they change clothes. What changed between those 2 scenes? Vandham (the snake) gave them the forbidden fruit of knowledge.

Honest question requesting an unbiased answer. Would someone that doesn't like anime or finds it very off putting and weird, would they enjoy a game like this? I'm in my mid 30s now. Growing up in the 90s anime was very niche. It was like something that only weird loners and gay kids would like(besides the pokemon craze that everyone was into in the late 90s). But even as an adult, when I get glimpses of it, it is still very weird to me. I won't go into too many details, but I just think by now, even if I try to get into any of it, I just can't. It's either the arrangement of dialogue, the score, the plot and overall look of everything. I just don't think I would ever vibe with any of it. However, what brought me to looking this game up. I just recently bought and played through Stellar Blade. That's like the first Asian game I've played in 20 years and it might have beeen the most fun I've had playing a single player game just for the game play, in like 15 years. Pretty much since the late 2000s, I've based how much I've enjoyed a game either on the content, or how much fun I have while playing the game with friends. The last game I really liked for just gameplay alone was probably Skate 2 in like 2008. Just something to casually play while listening to music. No focus on characters, story, dialogue, worrying about missing something. Just something you can boot up, play and have fun and listen to music too without any impact on the experience playing the game. After Skate, I loved games like Mass Effect, The Last of Us, Witcher 3, Uncharted, Horizon, or Cyberpunk 2077. All these I really loved for the story, music, characters, audio, performances, immersion, like just overall content had me with those games. I loved playing Stellar Blade simply for the gameplay. Really fun boss fights, fighting mechanics, quality of life when exploring, so many details, so many different enemies, huge world, and just so so so many features from fishing, camera mode, using a sword like a skateboard bombing the hypertube, swimming, climbing, wall running, double jump, smooth motion/movement, solving little puzzles, etc etc... so many good things and things gamers love that other studios seem to think we dont. example: Mass Effect you sprint for 5 seconds then you're fatigued and need to wait like 20 seconds to run again whereas Stellar you run for like 5 seconds then you go into double speed sprint because if someone needs to go from A to B on foot, why would they want it to take their entire night of gaming? Or other games put a $10-20 price tag on any cosmetic character appearance changer whereas Stellar gave like 100 skins in the game for the cost of playing the game, finishing missions or finding them while exploring. Just so much good howeever.. I tried to keep the music on a few times but man... that score mostly did not fit at all in my opinion, which is historically something that bothers me every time I've seen bits of anime. The character design was kinda all over the place and the plot was half baked at best. But... I still give that game 9.5/10. I only found out about this Nier game because of the crossover DLC in Stellar. Cycling back to my question, these games I listed are all Western games. I'm wondering if someone that can differentiate the themes and everything of anime to western story telling and production, if they know this to be a fun game for the gameplay alone, and if it's fun enough to distract from all the anime vibes. This is probably such a weird question and I'm kinda high and typed way too much here but I really am curious to know right now if this game is worth $40 and if I'll enjoy it. Or will this little boy in shorts and these other really sus lookin shirtless dudes I seen put me off along with bizarre music choices like scoring an emotional scene with a blend of Asian pop rock, Alvin and the Chipmunks and bland LoFi beats? Better context than reading this lengthy on the spectrum like paragraph I just typed, could someone with an unbiased opinion to anime recommend this game to a straight North American male in their 40s-50s? knowing that they love video games that are fun but find anime and anime themes very weird and off putting? Looking for another single player game to play, this came up but I don't want to be upset over a $40 loss if I feel compelled to uninstall based on my experience with the characters, music, plot and most important, gameplay. I swear this kid in the black shorts is scaring me away from this game, I think you just play as the girl though right?

The game's pretty cheap, usually on sale for around $10. I'd say go for it. You might not like it. It asks a lot more out of the player than something like Stellar Blade does. It's closer to something like Horizon/Witcher 3 than Stellar Blade, but it parodies a lot of things that you don't like (and how it appears on the surface), so that may or may not resonate with you.

I was unsure if I wanted to play this game mostly I never grew up with shooter games and The Fandom is literally everywhere with its Gmod & SFM videos comes out as weird and cringe. However the game itself shows interest of challenge, story and connections I was interested in playing the game myself though unfortunately I never touched the game but more leaning towards the content of videos of what splatoon is I don’t have any past connections nor will I experience these kind of excitement as they have already pass but I never know until I try. So yeah I might purchase Splatoon 2 then maybe 3. I don’t know why I want to experience this due to its flaws as a franchise but the part of me doesn’t want to miss out, perhaps loneliness is a dangerous poison… Either way I’m down to trying something new, thanks to watching this and other videos like this.

I am creeping up on 60 years old and have been gaming since their invention. My family's TV was connected to an Atari console with one cartridge for PONG. I was in high school in the early 80's when video game arcades were popping up everywhere, and have owned just about every game console ever sold. As jaded as I have become, Nier: Automata completely shattered my preconceptions of what a videogame is and what it can do. The multiple gameplay styles and overall design of the game seemed to be meticulously engineered to subvert expectations. That's what initially hooked me, all the different game styles rolled into one. Second playthrough slowly built a sense of impending emotional devastation. When the true second half of the game begins at playthrough three, the intense sense of dread is palpable as that meticulously built world crumbles around you. In the end, the experience was completely unique, which is something very few games if any can claim with credibility. I too have been singing the praises of this game ever since playing it to completion. In many ways, it's a perfect video game and I often wonder if it's ever going to be remade with a modern game engine like Unreal 5.x. Regardless, till the day I die, I will be recommending this game to every gamer I meet, simply describing it as a game designed top to bottom to body slam the expectations of the most jaded gamers.

I'm gonna get flamed for this but here goes. I only recently picked this game up when it was on steam sale I had heard great things about it. How it was a story masterpiece. I've at this point put 7 hours into the game and while I find story of the game compelling so far... Frankly, the gameplay is a terrible boring slog and the controls feel clunky the only time they feel particularly responsive is when dodging. The map and minimap are among the worst I have seen in ages. Of the areas I have seen so far the only one thay is visually interesting is the amusement park, the other areas feel very samey. I have tried playing the game on normal, hard and I'm about to try easy hoping that then I at least one shot trash enimies or something so I can move through the game faster. But then there are the large diatances you have to traverse for anything seem large for no real reason other than to make the world seem bigger than it is and to consume your time. I stopped this video at the 6:25 mark as I have not finished the game but at this point I'm almost convinced I'll never finish it because it's nearly impossible to make up for bad gameplay with a good story. Am I doing something wrong? Should I just ignore the side quests and try and race through the game ignoring them because they don't have any real impact?
