Hey. Welcome. I like NieR: Automata. A lot. So, I made a video about it.
I consider this my "first" video on this channel because now that an Automata video is made, I can move on. You might notice there are other videos, but those aren't real. They're prequels to this video.
Thanks for watching! :)
- Spoiler Warning -
The first 8 minutes of the video are "free" of spoilers, so there is a distinct warning before the spoilers start at 8:00. The beginning mostly shows footage from the early game and broadly references things in the scope of the game, so it is what most people wouldn't consider spoilers. Personally I wouldn't want to know anything about the game before I played it, but everyone's spoiler tolerance varies.

We just need more companies to make a risky story either passion and love and not another clearly created by the corporation that owns the studio type game. Would love to see gaming take a hit to see more creative games. A game with lots of mystery but at the same time always giving you lore for you to connect the dots.

It’s not better nor worse than other media, it’s just different. In video games you can provoke emotions you can’t recreate in a movie, but some things are just better in plain movies or series, while books are a whole separate thing.

The thing I liked the most about the game is that it’s an eternal prologue bait. Beat the game once, that was the prologue. Beat the game twice, that was the prologue. The real shit starts on your third playthrough. NieR Replicant did the exact same thing, so cool

@@arturoporraz6046it stops being emotional suffering after route B. After route B I got really tired of repeating it. It didn't nail any points in any harder, in fact I thought replicant didn't really stick the landing with its main points to begin with due to the issues I had with some characters and plot choices. But basically route C shouldn't exist since they could've just put the emil text sections in route B along with kaines, made it so you beat Louise in route B, and made ending C and D obtainable after ending B. They could still make it so you need all weapons, or remove that requirement. Either way route C is completely unnecessary and makes the game feel bloated.

I unfortunately didn't have internet at the time when I reached the credits. Let me tell you, it was very hard. The checkpoints kept getting further and further apart. I was losing my mind. It kept asking me if I wanted to give up. But I finally got to see ending E. (Also you can cheese this whole thing by just using a copy of your saved data, but that kinda ruins the whole point of everything.) This is definitely my favorite game of all time for reasons that every reviewer of this game has mentioned. It's honestly very saddening how few people will experience this properly. I feel even worse for those that wanted to, but have had it spoiled for them. NieR: Automata definitely isn't the only game to bring existential questions to the spotlight. SOMA did this well before, and probably other games too. But Automata took it to the extreme. Especially with the save data part at the end, where things really become more than "just a game". People have asked for a movie or an anime based on this game, but I don't think that would ever work. The reason the story does so well is precisely because it is a game. Don't even get me started on the combat, animations, music, etc. Every aspect of this game is masterful. Even though all is said and done, I can't help but want more.

I didn't see how many views this had or subs you had until I finished the vid. Was expecting WAY more than there were. I think most would agree with you that it is basically impossible to do this game justice with just a video and I'm glad you really try to make that point. The overall experience with this game is so incredible and cared for that I think it's a bit scary something this good even exists. The story to the gameplay to the music is so perfectly in harmony and creates what I think is truly one of but probably THE best singular piece of media ever produced.

Spoiler Alert: Something that sticks out to me is that the game forces you to find meaning in a world seemingly devoid of any without you realizing that the meaning you are finding is predetermined through the plot setup and your gradual familiarity with the status quo, only to proceed to painfully rip it away from you just so it can force you to find your own meaning for real this time. Just about all of your expectations are subverted by the end. Even the expectation that 2B is the main character turns out to be a false assumption. The story doesn't follow the general plot flow that one would expect going into it, and just about everything that could go wrong does go wrong by the end. NieR: Automata is a game that puts you through a power trip so that it can show you how truly powerless you really are, and how little your own power matters.

I just beat Automata the day I’m writing this comment (08/15/22) and went on a huge content binge about the game. After watching post game analysis videos, and reading all the side content that has been released, I can confidently say Nier Automata has become one of if not the best game I’ve ever played. It’s definitely in my top five favorite games. No other game has made me think or feel more than Nier Automata. When you’re questioning the meaning of life in a god damn anime game where the main character has more polygons in her ass than most character models in other AAA games speaks volumes about what they’ve managed to create. Hopefully we get a Nier 3 at some point. Honestly I think they will make another since there’s some flavor text that references the return of the machine network. The Farewell side content also might be hinting at a possible return. Plus all that talk about killing the god who created their endless cycle can’t just mean breaking the fourth wall and erasing out save file, right? They’ve gotta be setting up some sort of final battle with the Androids who created the YoRHa Project and maybe breaking the endless cycle of violence once and for all. I NEED more from this universe. One final story to wrap it all up. I’ve already ordered Replicant and can’t wait to sink my teeth into it and see all the connections for myself.

Love you for using Re[in]carnation music. People don’t give it enough credits (rightfully so) because of the gacha nature, but it has some serious potential, especially in the music.

Thank you so much for this. I try to explain to people why this is the most important game I’ve played in my almost 50 years and all I have to give them is “well… I can’t tell you because you have to experience it to understand…” And it just feels so good knowing I’m not alone. I teared up multiple times during your video, remembering my experiences playing this game and also just knowing that I am not crazy - or at least, not alone - in my feelings for it. Thank you.

Subscribed! This review is Fantastic and surprised at your low number of subscribers. This game is a masterpiece and glad other people felt the same!! I believe this game will be discussed in the future when AI and robots are in our every day lives, and it will be discussed in philosophy classes. It was the most profound video game I have ever played and it is why this is my number 1. I have played and own thousands of games growing up in the 80s with Atari and Nintendo. And when SNES came out with Chrono Trigger (time travel) with various endings depending on your choices led me to hold that game as my number #1 for about 20yrs. But Nier Automata crushed my childhood game that brought a different meaning and perspective about life with various endings. Chrono Trigger molded and shaped my thoughts, which eventually brought this game that brought tears to me and I couldn’t understand why- except to ponder what could top this??? Bravo and keep up the great work. I Highly recommend giving Dark Souls, Demon Souls genre and my 3rd favorite game all time -Bloodborne a try for its story, gameplay, and music.

To me a great story, may that be a game or a show, is one that can tear me up and really make me think about it for a while. NieR did it so well that months after playing it i still tear up every time i hear the absolute masterpiece of a soundtrack this game has. It has definitely cemented itself as my favorite game until something manages to surpass it. Also i've just discovered your channel and love your content, keep it up!

Wow man I usually don't comment on most KZbin videos I watch but wow. Nier Automata did something to me, that truly makes me want to completely erase any memory I have of it, just so I can experience it again. You've brought up really interesting points, the most intriguing to me was how Nier plays with your expectations from beginning to the very very very end. When I went into Nier Automata, I literally didn't know what it was about, it just looked really fun to play. I enjoy going in blind, only trusting my gut feeling to decide whether I'll enjoy it or not, and hot damn did Nier make this attitude pay off big time. It's messing with you in a way that I have only seen video games accomplish so far (with the sole exception being Steins Gate anime (to be fair, I don't watch a lot of non-anime shows, so I'm biased)). I don't remember what point I was trying to make but I think you did the game justice. Although you made realise with your very human style here, that it is literally impossible for a single person to truly and fully make it justice because of how dense and packed it is. Just makes me wonder how incredible the guys behind this game must be. Anyhow enough from me, this comment probably doesn't have head nor tail lol thanks so much for the video and your effort to make it happen! You're a legend :D

This game starts as a cool futuristic Android combat game then after ending A shifts exponent. It does a complete 180 consisting a deep story tackling various psychological and mental concepts. It’s genuinely a game that shifts your view of life itself. It truly impacted me and I’m always looking through comments who feel the same way. Truly a game that will go down as one of the all time greats and imo should be a CLEAR representation that games are more than just shooters and entertainment. It can be one of the best GLORIES of MANKIND

Great analysis! I always like to discover that more people were impacted like me by Automata. I especially liked the discussion about it being "not not just a game", when you say that Automata isn't pretentious or overly self-indulgent. When I think about it, well... I feel that it kinda is, but never to an obnoxious extent; like you said, it never forget that it's a game and I it's terribly good at that too. I guess you have to be a little pretentious when you try to lift the medium up.

Amazing review of Nier Automata! I love how you seamlessly interjected the philosophers in Nier and ended in the end that, it is the weight of the world. Truly this game boggles the mind and what you said "finding your own purpose and deriving meaning from seemingly designed meaninglessness is the most optimistic thing there is." It really is the answer for a kind of world if players are to imagine the world of Nier and think from the perspective of an existence in that world. Great job!

Spoiler on the topic of "it always ends like this." Do not read before finishing the game if you are interested. 9S was first booted in 11942 (9S backstory, in-game). The year is 11945. 9S is about 3 years old. 2B has killed 9S 48 times (NieR: Orchestra Concert re:12018), whenever he approached the secret of the Moon base. All-in-all, that's an average of about 3 months between each time she had to do it. No wonder 2B was so reluctant about emotions. It _always_ ended like this.

I'm late to getting to play this piece of art. Recently started playing, and coming up to the amusement park I had an internal struggle... Do I slaughter every robot I see even though they aren't hostile, or do I leave them be? It isn't very often I get enthralled by games in today's market, but this has drawn me in as much as Mass Effect did when I first played. They're leagues apart, but both have this... gravity to them. Sadly, I cannot watch the whole video due to the spoiler warning (Cheers for that, mate) but I will be back to finish it. Got yaself a new subscriber within less than 10 minutes
