Sorry you had a bad expeience as a camp host. I camp host at a SC State Park for a couple of months each year. No pay. I clean bathrooms, put tags on site for campers coming in, pick up trash in the campground, clean fire pits, and talk to the campers. I check the bathrooms a couple of time each day to ensure there is enough toilet paper and the showers don't have anything left in them. Most of the campers are nice and keep thier campsite fairly clean. I rarely have had a diffucult camper. The Rangers are great with dealing with any issues that the camp hosts can't resolve with a someone who is camping. I get a free campsite and 2 days off per week. It isn't that hard. The Rangers are great to work with.

My cats ruined my brand-new leather dining room chairs in one night. I put covers over them that were meant for wedding chairs. They didn't bother the chairs anymore and I like the look. The cats are gone now (RIP Lando and Stefan) but the chairs are still here, in one piece.

You need to put a deslugger on your a/c compressor asap, before it happens again. The deslugger is $50-$100 plus 1/2 hour labor. What happened is the oil in the a/c refrigeration lines draind down when the comprrssor is low on the engine and prevents the compressor from starting when it is very warm out. You are very lucky it did not blow metal through your entire A/C. System, or you would be replacing the entire system including all the lines ,dryer, the evap and condenser coils, very expensive. W ith the deslugger installed, when you turn on your A/C it turns on, the A/C clutch engages for only a second or two 5 times, to slowly move the oil that has collected low at the compressor which is low in the system. Did you know if you buy a replacement compressor the warranty is usually 1-2 years, but if you buy and install a deslugger on the compressor, the compressor has a lifetime warranty. Any car or engine with the A/C compressor low on the engine will have this issue in warm climates. Our Honda CRV cost us over $4000 for a new /A/C system. Google deslugger on utube, the explanation is all there. Please let me know you got this message. We are coming off 22 years as full time rvers, im our 80's now and not driving the 8k miles round trip across the USA for 22 years, ee are slowing down and traveling the east coast Maine to FL with a house now in NC, just bought a 2017 view 24g, going to pick it up next week, and we will not turn on the engine A/C till the slugher is installed. We should talk. Chris & Edith

You can be worked to death because of lack of staffing due to poor management. Always ask how many work campers are currently on staff and how many are staffed at the same time continuously. If there's a gap between outgoing and incoming workers, you may find yourself doing the work of 4, 5, 6 or more people, which is physically impossible. If a position turns out to be more work than agreed upon, management has broken the contract. You have every right to move on. Good, reliable work campers are a very valuable asset. Don't allow yourself to be taken advantage of and abused. As for your resume', leave a bad host gig off of it and use solid personal references or previous positive host position contacts as references.

I love my camp host job. 98% of the people I have experienced have been amazing. I would never host at a park on a lake or river in the summer months because you will experience exactly what you did.

Hi. I have a question. I was thinking of buying a small RV like you have so I can go visit my granddaughter in Colorado, about a 13 hr drive. Hes 13 yrs old and has never traveled but hes really good and easy going. When I get there, can I leave him in the RV? The motor will be off so what do you do with your cat if its getting hot or cold where you are? Love your adventure. Thanks for sharing, Gail

Kentucky is one of the LOWEST PAYING states! AND THE COST OF LIVING IS ABSOLUTELY NO LONGER LESS EXPENSIVE THAN SAY, ARIZONA WHICH HAD A MINIMUM WAGE OF 13 PER HR. (LAST I CHECKED) COMPARED TO KY WHICH IS STILL 7.25. IT'S PATHETIC HERE!!! AND THESE HILLBILLIES HERE ARE DEFINITELY THE MOST UNFRIENDLY, DISRESPECTFUL, MISERABLE PEOPLE EVER! I'VE NEVER, EVER MET PEOPLE LIKE THEM ANYWHERE .

Too Many glorify campsite host.. at least you guys arnt.. if I work for 8 hrs a day I expect my job to only be within that time frame.. don’t care what needs attention..if my shift is over I don’t want to be bothered by anyone.. that’s why i would never work as a campsite host.. you are technically work 24 hrs a day even though you think you’re not.. you are always on standby… that’s a terrible deal.

HINT: Remove valance; remove padded fabric covering. Recover with HD vinyl wallpaper/counter material (NOT fabric); and staple/glue it into place (or get peel n stick, even better!) for a flush/sleek look; and instead of having to deal with cleaning a stationary fabric item (good luck with THAT, eh!) all u have to do is a quick damp cloth swipe! voila! cheap, easy to install and clean, and looks great. enjoy! another blonde solution...

Thank you for this. I need to get towed to Mercedes 52 miles away thankfully I have good Sam towing unlimited mileage because Mercedes did not arrange this when I talk to them on Friday. He said you get it. Towed and we’ll look at it on Tuesday. It is the Easter weekend but he didn’t offer to get me towed. I dont have a vehicle behind so my pup and I will need to go with the driver. They allow this? I hope my issue is as simple fix as you rs. I’ve got to be in Texas for the eclipse on April 8t h

Now i think the best way to be a camp host is if you are going to be by yourself is to get a secluded campground. now this campground i'm talking about has no hookups. and only one bathroom house. men & woman. with only one toilet on either side. & only has about 8 to 12 campsites. to me this may sound better to you i don't know?

Great tips! If you do like museums or arboretums there often are reciprocal visits with a membership. It isn’t always advertised so just ask. We haven’t tried Harvest Hosts yet but are looking forward to that.

Hello, we are newer to rv travel and we also now have a diabetic cat so he will travel with us. I am curious to know what brand of wet food you changed to, and about how much per day. Blackie looks to be around the same size as your cat although he is not a mane coon (but his brother is❤) thank you in advance

you can make it a bad situation or you can manage it so it's not so bad. One thing you have to remember is, you are not an authority figure. You observe and report only, don't confront campers for any reason. Second if you're doing something, the croud can wait. Third if you're off duty then be off and put a sign up with lights on it. Maintenance should be cleaning out the fire pits

Ban people from Camping if they or their children are caught destroying or damaging bathrooms, vandalizing. I've Never understood people who do such things! Put the Word out ahead! A Blacklist would be appropriate! I'm sure there are signs to Encourage people to be Considerate of others--and Clean their site up before leaving...
