Once again some noticeable progress if one looks in the right places. Lots of surface drainage works for example ready for the tracks through the surface platforms.

A cracking example of just how difficult renewals and upgrades are on the existing network, and yet some think such work would provide the same new capacity as HS2.
@smokeyeyes__11 күн бұрын
Exactly this. What we have today are some of the oldest railway lines in the world pushed to their very limits. There's only so many upgrades we can make to the existing network before the inevitable conclusion that a new line is needed.

@Jamie9220815 күн бұрын
Thanks. Interesting. Is this in the area just north of the Chiltern tunnels. If so I believe that the bridges there are being built by Align who built the tunnels, as subcontractors to the main contractor for that stretch.
@stevetony687615 күн бұрын
Yes it’s about a mile north of the tunnel and there’s a few ‘smaller’ scale overbridges to build before Wendover. 👍
@TrevorWilliams-fq8mg14 күн бұрын
Align are the main Contractors - it's a joint venture partnership formed between Volker, Sir Robert McAlpine, and Bouyges. Biuyges are a French contractor, McAlpine a British contractor and Volker not sure, might be German. All of the main Contractors building the civil engineering contracts for HS2 are in various different joint ventures between them.
@TrevorWilliams-fq8mg14 күн бұрын
I think the Align contract might have ended at the northern face of the Chiltern tunnels. If so this contract is being built by a joint venture comprising Effiage (French), Ferrovial (Spanish), Kier (British), Bam (Dutch).
@ebsbrown498314 күн бұрын
EKFB were originally contracted from just beyond the Chiltern North Portal (where the trackbed suddenly stops beyond the green landscaping for the portal buildings) to the Itchington Wood tunnel. However, it was taken from them and given to Align when it was clear they were under-performing and falling behind. You can see from the tunnel portal to Wendover green tunnel that very little (if any) earthworks have taken place. The viaducts that were already nearly finished remained with EKFB but the smaller scale bridges and earthworks were handed to Align instead. Looks like Align though are also still concentrating on finishing the tunnel portal site before moving on...
@TrevorWilliams-fq8mg14 күн бұрын
@@ebsbrown4983Aha. So do you know what went wrong with EKFB ? I say this with some interest as I used to work for Kier.
@Polarbear1-b6j15 күн бұрын
I love how neatly your videos demonstrate how the wider landscape is untouched and even where HS2 works have impacted it's clear the majority will be green once again soon enough. The irony is much of this land was mono crop farmland and particularly after ploughing looked no different for parts of the year to where HS2 has moved earth.
