I'll say it again, this makes me want to come there & ride. Are they going to continue these videos when you retire?

I rode the real trail 14. It ended on the asphalt road going down the mountain. By then, it was really not rideable. Lol There was a waterfall towards the bottom. Going back up was NOT an option. I had to tie a rope on the back of my atv, kick it over the edge and lower, then roll it onto the wheels. I was sooooo wore out. My son sat at the bottom, watching and laughing. Good times.

Sometimes stuff on the trail doesn''t have a good fix. When that happens we will be forced to close the trail. Really I think most of the time people put too much confidence in their Driving Skills and Machine Capabilities and push the limits a little too far. I know for me, if I was sitting at bottom of that hill on 82 looking up, I have nothing to prove and continue on down 83. I get what you are saying but we have a lot of obstacles on bunch of different trails that are sketch. Blacks and Double Blacks. It amazes me how many people actually come looking for those Double Blacks first trip to Windrock

It was not a theater, the big room was full of radar scopes and one wall was used as a screen to display the coverage area and radar contacts My dad was one of the first 13 personnel stationed there
@WindrockTV7 күн бұрын
Thanks for clearing that up. I was told that there was a movie theater up on top of the mountain and assumed. Makes sense, that is a large building.
@kerrytemplin35853 күн бұрын
@WindrockTV Actually there was another building to the left of that one that was identical. The floor slab had cable raceways in it for all the wiring. It's a neat place, the logistics that went into building that place was unbelievable

We rode Windrock (Coal Creek) for the first time, in 2002. Over the next couple of years, we came down from Michigan, 30 times. I put over 8000 miles on my machines. What an absolute blast it was. We camped at the bottom of the mountain, next to where they had the permits. There was no campground, or anything else but a bunch of the best riding. They had just recently mapped that side of 116. We met up with some great people to ride with, and we rode a ton of north of 116 before it was mapped. Some of the best memories I have. Manuel Tinker lived on the road heading in, and we kept our 4 wheelers there when we came back to Michigan, we got water from him too. Our buddy Wayne was a constant with us on the trails. Rinkidink, Herb, Johnny, Bo Bean and so many others. All great people. And even though we were actually from Alabama originally, they still accepted us.. lol Great to see the place is still doing great!!!

Would not an excavator be a more cost-effective machine to clear the trails quicker easier move trees with no problem. Wouldn’t have to use a chainsaw as much. Was just wondering.
@WindrockTV7 күн бұрын
Dozer can work faster than an Excavator. We do have a Cat 309 that we use with the Dozer. There are few videos on the Channel that show us working it.

Most of the time the Excavator takes more time. Dozer will cover more ground especially when tramming as far as we have to sometimes just to work a small problem on a trail. It took 1/2 day just to Tram the Dozer into this area.

Hello Ron once again thanks for another great video really enjoyed it. My wife and I would like to try to take this trail that you guys did? Is there a way that you could post in the trails and their numbers in order so that we could try to plot this and do this ourselves as well period thanks so much

We started on Trail 2 from Main Parking Lot. Take Trail 2 to G1, Right on G1, Right on T33, Right on G8, Left on 73 then continue on G31 to Highway 116. Left on Highway 116 to top of Mountain. Turn Right on G50, Left on T50, Left on T88 to end at Highway 116. Right on Highway 116 to Bill Patterson Lane (1/2 mile after turn from T88). Swinging Bridge is located here. Continue on Hwy 116 about 1 mile to left turn on Gravel Road. Take that Road Straight into Trail 12. Left on Trail 14. Right on Trail 11. Right on G1, Right on G9 to Overlook. Go past Overlook to G2. Left on G2 to Paved Rd (P1) to main parking lot. (Note Trail 14 has a few steep climbs and might have a few ruts, we didn't have any trouble)

Water control very important as you mentioned. Check with your states division of forestry for best management practices for forest roads. Looks to me like more water bars needed due the stee pness. Looks like great trail system
