When a female comic was funny and not just 'mildly attractive and talking about sex'....

The best night out I ever had with my parents was in 1983, when I took them to see Phyllis Diller at the Chateau de Villa in Framingham MA. I was laughing so hard I was in pain. We met her backstage (to buy her book), and she was lovely and gracious.

She didn’t have to say a word. When she made her entrance, I was in stitches. She provided the Funny Bone - and them some.

I saw her in her VERY last performance in Vegas . She retired that night and never came back on stage for a curtain call.

Even as a big guy myself, these are fucking FUNNY. There's a difference between being flat out mean and just creative jokes. XD

Phyllis Diller had a full understanding of just how funny the truly ridiculous IS. Obviously, this is not about a real person; it’s an extreme exaggeration about a fantastical being. Phyllis often made fun of herself as well. She wasn’t some hothouse orchid-she never took herself too seriously and laughed and cracked jokes just as hard at herself as she did at fictional characters. This world has lost it’s balance. Too many take themselves far too seriously and can’t laugh at themselves. She could, and did. I miss her magnificent laugh. 😢

I used to love reading this book with my grandparents as a kid. Had no idea it was a movie until today! And it's pretty good, too!

I remember seeing this. Once. The songs are embedded in my mind. I remembered the plot, and that Robert Downey Jr. was in it. But not the name. This unlocked a blast from my past.
