The fact that he could compose music like this, and decided not too is a think many people seem to forget. The shear mear currage and like mental strength this man had is so inspiring. He succeded in stearing music into a new direction, a new and suprising direction. Even if you dont like his music, you need to at least accept that he did the impossible and paved the wave for like Berg, for me one of the best composers of the entire 20th century. i should go back and study some boring ass haydn scores for an soon to come exam... wish me luck

Why would someone whose actual favourite composer is Holst only be basing it off of The Planets, y'all are just assuming whoever watches this knows as little about the music as you do (the guy has so many hidden gems it's incredible seriously go listen to the Hymn of Jesus)

Every time I watch these I feel backhanded for being a Wagner fan. But, I do love film music. An original score is often the only reason I find a movie enjoyable.

It’s amazing how the more you listen the more people become you’re favorites. (Shostakovich -> Saint-Seans -> Debussy -> Chopin -> Tchaikovsky -> Bizet -> Cherubini -> Monti -> Verdi -> Mozart -> Beethoven and now, MOST underrated: Mendelssohn

Satie's composition in the video Gymnopedie No. 1 (1888) kinda sounds like if Clair de lune (1890) had another part so i assumed that he was another impressionist composer, but in my research, it was said that Erik Satie's music "opposed" impressionism despite sounding like it. His only connection to Claude Debussy was only because they were close friends. Not to make conflicts or anything but did some "bro can i copy your homework?" occur? and one said "Yeah but change it up so the teacher don't get us caught" or is it maybe a french thing? and if so, who copied who? They both have different release date but, who copied whoo?🤔 Might also be unfair since Debussy got more popular because of Clair de lune than his composition despite kinda sounding the same (I might low-key be biased since Debussy is my favourite but...yeah. Is this similarity already mentioned? if yes then maybe im late to the party😌) Idk y'all im kinda stupid

Gymnopedie does sound similar to impressionism, but i guess it’s not because it isn’t inspired by the arts (like debussy.)

Debussy's a lot more complex than Satie though, no? I mean Debussy's super expressive and sort of lush and vibrant, but Satie's whole vibe is stripped down, kind of intentionally emotionally flat - though I suppose he's still operating in a similar harmonic language to the other French composers of the period (and from what I understand that harmonic language was really invented by Debussy via the Prelude a l'apres-midi d'un faune) Also impressionism in music didn't have much to do with the visual arts, Debussy & Ravel didn't really like the label they just happened to also be French and working in a new style I guess

Alkan fan here disappointed. But for the ones on this list, probably Mendelssohn, Ravel and Chopin(but seriously Ravel is underrated I swear most people only know about Gaspard de la Nuit when there are so much other nice pieces for example his Alborada del gracioso, or maybe the piano concerto in G major and so much more)

The Italian Cantatas by Handel are wonderful for me; moreover, according to Beethoven, Handel is the greatest composer. I think that Beethoven is also a dialectic synthesis of the contrapunctal taste of Bach, the singing expressive lines of Handel, the theatrical colourism of Mozart married in new innovative structures with a different poetic.
