So does the waste gate opening when pressurized allow boost thru or does it cause the exhaust gas to bypass? Is it exhaust gas or fresh boosted air putting pressure on the gate?

Not surprising. Installed about 60-70 of their complete 8.8 assemblies over the years. Most had at least one of the following. Terrible gear whine at all speeds/ leaks from the axle shafts/Leaking pinholes in welds ( About every 3rd axle) /leaks from the cover/wrong gear ratio installed/Leaking Pinion seal/Cross pin bolts left LOOSE about to fall out/ Did I say terrible gear whine? Trash. Their Wavetrac for the 8.8 is also shitty. Least amount of carrier runout I found on them was .004" some were as high as .008-.010" of carrier runout. Try making a quiet gear with that!!!! LOL It's not going to happen. A cheap OEM Traction lock, 90% have ZERO carrier runout. Highest I have seen on those is .002"

Also maybe depends on what the purpose of the fuel is, if purely financial then you don't want 85% then you want a smaller percentage. The same maybe if you want the balance between performance and cost

There is a KZbinr who said that chemically speaking, you only need 40% ethanol. He talked purely scientifically about the fuel with curves on boards and the like. You can actually say that an excessive amount of ethanol means unnecessarily high fuel consumption. There is a car competitions where you are only allowed to have a maximum of 102 octane

Half the people on KZbin are using the two colored- links on the intake phaser and the single colored-link on the exhaust phaser.
@ConnorGuasti
@ConnorGuasti 22 күн бұрын
It honestly doesn't matter. There's an odd number of links on the chain. That's why there's 2 on one side, and one on the other. It doesn't matter which way you do it.

I stuck with my numbers. I would go with what your tuner/engine builder said.. we're taking talking about the difference in theory. If someone you paid is telling you to run those, then do that. If you're unsure, my car runs great at the degrees I set.

OK on the timing chain dark colored links that line up on the timing marks, for us first time guys worth saying FACTORY says - as Reggiestreet below states - single link on exhaust etc etc. Other videos state factory settings then you say something else, result waste a lot of time trying to find out who is right and or if it makes a difference, i did not want to mess this vital step up, watched your video first, then folks are telling me no. Did,nt seem like it would make any difference BUT ????
@ConnorGuasti
@ConnorGuasti 5 ай бұрын
The meat of it is this. The tooth count on both sprockets is the same... either way you put the dark links, there's the same number of links in between the marked teeth. Therefore, in my opinion, it shouldn't matter. Also my car runs perfectly fine the way I do it in the video. If you are not confident, follow the factory setup guide on that part. Hopefully the rest of the video was helpful.

I’m degreeing my cams now, intake cams went great, my exhaust cams are kicking my a**! Every time I check them it’ll give me an abnormally high degree on the wheel from TDC (for example my LH exhaust cam is reading 234° and 296° on each measurement. I must be missing something, any ideas what I could be doing wrong?

@ConnorGuasti I'm using the comp cam wheel. After rewatching your video, I understand my error. I wasn't starting at BDC for exhaust valves, and the 360-degree wheel doesn't help. I do have one more issue. I adjusted intake and then exhaust, but when I go back to double-check intake, it's off 20° but my mmr lockouts won't let me adjust any more advanced. Any suggestions or thoughts?

As a fail-safe I've always put whatever cylinder I'm changing springs on at TDC. That way if for some reason you lose air pressure the valve will not fall down into the cylinder too far that it can't be pulled by up in the valve guide. However, it's also important to make sure the cylinder you are putting the air pressure to is at exactly TDC so the air pressure doesn't push the piston back down.

I almost bought this tool (it's expensive like $250) and then I pulled the valve cover off and I was like no fkn way would I be able to do this with the cams in the way even with this tool with the engine in the car. You can't even see the top of the retainer for the exhaust valves. This just validates my decision to pull the cams. I am doing valve stem seals.

Just a free FYI for anyone doing this. It took me months to complete this because I could not get the exhaust to desired centerline. I had never attempted this before so I kept going back and redoing everything, assuming I missed something. I did everything correct as far as the process was concerned. My mistake come with poor choices in some of the parts. I initially started with Comp Cam lockout plates, then went to MMR. Unfortunately for me, those have the exact same pattern for the slots, so I got the exact same results. When I started calling engine builders and others trying to get some insight on what I thought I was doing wrong, I heard the same thing from several of them..."get the RGR lockout plates" No one could tell me why but, they all said, "they work". And for me, they worked!! I'm not saying they are the only ones that work but, I can tell you, they work and the quality of the hardware, the finish and even the billet aluminum was superior. I get nothing from RGR or anyone else for stating this but, I sure wish I had read something like this months ago when I started this process.

So, I recently completed a 3-1-1 build. I originally timed it with the driver side at the 9 o’clock and the passenger side at the 12. It was throwing cam codes. The exhaust on the driver side the was advanced. The exhaust cam on the passenger side was retarded. I installed limiters. Then the both showed advanced. A friend of mine helped me. We put the key way at the 10 o’clock position. (That’s how he always does them). Now it is showing both banks are running rich. Fouled set of plugs about to foul another. Replaced up streamed O2. Boost reference regulator at 55lbs with the vacuum off. Would you have any ideal what would cause this.

I'm having the same issue (P0024 exhaust advanced timing bank 2) on my 2013 F150 even after retiming. I found out after doing the retiming that there is a cam oil filter inside the center of the cam for the phasers. I'm hoping this fixes the advanced timing issue. My phasers are not locked out.

I could be mistaken on this, but I think the reason you have to do that is because the valve spring tension will be fighting you as you try to put the primary chain on bank 2. I can assure you that i personally (in my limited experience) haven't hurt a valve or piston surface doing it this way.
