I have Mine would beat ryuji 6/10 due to the reason that he put more visable battale damage on Kiryu. I also think Ryuji gets downplayed because of his second boss fight but I chock that up to him being less effective with a blade.

Sadly, the best we can hope for in future BL games is less dialog. No way it'll improve. And for fuck's sake LET US SKIP IT! There are some gems though. I will die on a hill for Tannis' descent into madness in the BL1 echoes, and Tina slowly accepting Roland's death in the DLC.

BL3 writing is so obnoxious, I have no will to open that game again. Kinda funny, I was streaming it to a friend of mine, and he suggested I try Bulletstorm instead. Man.. as corny as Bulletstorm gets, it was such a breathe of fresh air, especially after I heard bandit leader Vaughn yapping about a scull in a camp being misplaced, while all of his people were gone

My issues is every character is the same, making them feel like nothing like slates for jokes like you express We find like claptrap and jack good characters and funny, because there is good reason for them to be constantly blabbing or wisecracking. So when someone like Sir Hammerlock makes a “bonerfart” joke, while it’s kinda funny because it’s out of character for him and that’s the point, it is still out of character and that makes it unfunny. But shit. BL3. Every single character without fail is the damn same. The gambling bit makes it extremely apparent. No personality traits change aside from what stupidass catchphrase they use. Vaughn’s annoying ass even got two. And both “BANDIT LIFE” and “BLOOD FUED” being screamed in my ears makes me want to play literally anything else

borderlands humor has always been pretty cringe (I liked Jack's humor though). What I think is most important is gameplay-vibe-story-humor in that order. I consider BL2 my favorite in the series, but the balancing (lack of viable builds) puts me off. BL3 has the best gameplay and has a decent vibe but bl2 has close gameplay held back by the balancing issue at endgame, on the other hand BL2 clears BL3 in terms of vibe, story and humor. With this being said I think BL3 is the most re-playable game in the series because of the wide number of viable builds and weapons/shields/grenades/action skills.

The sibling resentment is the biggest dropped ball in the entirety of the writing. It genuinely starts to feel like there's a point where the brother might turn to our side as his sister gets increasingly out of control, then it just doesn't matter.

The one problem I have with a lot of looter shooter games Is that 99% of the loot is absolutely useless Because the rarity of weapons, scales with your level So in the lower level, you get common weapons, but then when you’re near max rank, every single weapon is legendary It makes legendary weapons, feel worthless if everything is legendary I swear borderlands the only game that I actually did the looter shooter correctly How do you place of the game? You still are getting low level weapons that are worthless. That are not legendary that essentially by max level, the only weapons you actually be using his purple and gold Any white green or blue weapons get immediately trashed But a lot of other games, make legendary weapons as common as possible once you’re in the higher levels, which makes the rarity worthless

I think you missed one key component to the Ava problem. Ava is the writers' attempt to replace Maya with their own insert. They thought they could create a new character who was better than one of the most endearing characters in the entire franchise. And even worse, they actually ironically proved that they COULD write an even better Maya. They gave us about 2 hours worth of gameplay with an objectively cooler, even more interesting version of the BL2 Maya. And then they had the NERVE to kill off the only decently well written character in the entire game, in the worst cutscene of the entire franchise, entirely at the fault of their "replacement" for her, and still expected people to be perfectly fine with this. They had the audacity to try and one up the best written allied character in the series to date. It's one of the cliches that's really hurting most sequels in all forms of media. The hubris of new writers thinking they can do better than what came before them. And maybe they COULD do better, just like the BL3 writers adding more onto Maya's character and making her even better, but instead of focusing on trying to ADD on to what came before, they think they can TAKE AWAY from what was so great about the original material and make something better in its place. And 99.9% of the time it falls flat. And in BL3 it didn't just fall flat, it was a moment that fully justified completely dropping the game. I did manage to finish the whole game, just out of some misguided loyalty to the franchise, but I think it is entirely justified if a lot of people quit after that cutscene

Of all the Borderlands games the first one is still my favorite. While the gameplay was rougher, the writing, the setting, and the "feel" of BL1 were all far and away better than anything that came after it. I think you do a very good job of explaining why. To add, BL1 also worked because despite Pandora's inherent absurdity, the world still made sense because the characters in it took their own lives and roles seriously. They felt like "real" people in the otherwise unhinged space-western/adventure movie satire that BL1 was, and any points of unbelievability could be hand-waved because ultimately the whole game is just a story Marcus is telling to some little girl.

Regardless what anyone says about borderlands and the series, I love it to death. 1 and 2 I have the most hours and memories with, i remember growing up watching my dad play borderlands on the ps3 and thinking it was awesome and I got to play it too but since I was young I wasn’t that good and couldn’t get too far. Before my parents got a divorce, I was walking with my mom in target and happened to see borderlands 2 for ps3 and knew I had to get it for my dad and bless my mother because she bought it and after the divorce I went to my dads friends house he stayed at and we stayed up late playing borderlands 2 and from there we were addicted. Shortly once he moved in with my step mom we continued to play and had so many late nights making koolaid and frozen pizzas and spending couple hours on the weekend on it. In 2023 I lost my father to suicide and now I treasure these games, even 3 which we had fun on as well but nothing like 1 and especially 2. Miss my dad and I cherish the memories I have playing with him on these games and is the reason I went back and played only as sirens.

I kinda have to agree that the writing in borderlands is very poor most of the time like borderlands one you wouldn’t really lose anything by not listening to the story at all borderlands two had a very compelling main villain, but most of the side objectives and quests were mostly pointless, like one of them literally Ends with you just murdering the dude who was sending you to do everything and most of what he sent you to do was killing and borderlands three unfortunately the main villains are once again actually even worse because they are obnoxious, annoying and hateable, but in the wrong ways. The main villains of borderlands three are literally IRL streamers with a God complex which might’ve been more interesting if they weren’t actually powerful like somehow, they are portrayed as these almost wimpy personalities, but also literally two of the strongest people in the entire franchise so far.
@tigrexkiller15489 күн бұрын
I mean, Borderlands 1 wasnt even half as serious as you make it out to be. The main story i can agree on it being dry, but the side content/ DLC isnt. The Zombie dlc is literally "Ned" making zombies cus he thinks its fun and Secret armory literally screams memes at you at every available moment. Not to mention that the Claptrap DLC is deliberately taking the piss out of the entire game. The issue with these isnt that they dont take themselves serious, but that the humor they build the story on is contemporary. I also dont belive that any substantial amount of people find the writing in Borderlands 1 better than Borderlands 2. I think the main issue here isn't really the writing per say, but more or less the "stay around here for 5-10 minutes and listen to this sheit for the Nth time" That being said though, i agree with your take on Borderlands 3. It tries way to hard to mimic what Borderlands 2 did and falls flat most of the time. But then again some of the DLC for 3 has some of the best writing (imo) that the series has to offer, especially Guns Love and Tentacles and Fuster Cluck

I will say I can absolutely agree that the first game had a more serious tone, but in all seriousness like he said with gameplay>story, borderlands 2 was the absolute best to me, there was enough seriousness to know what ur doing, wanting to help but also having fun and being badass, maybe I’ll piss off the older gamers or get called a kid but bl1 was boring as shit to me, the gameplay was terrible compared to every game after, and the story just makes it feel like any other serious game, I think borderlands stuck out getting to make jokes, even if some were dumb, it just gave u something to laugh at, people can dislike it now but if u didn’t enjoy it back then, I’d say ur just a dull person that doesn’t want humor, u wanna be like a brute that doesn’t talk and only has stuff to do, not to offend anyone Btw another reason I think it was best is the fact people weren’t making overpowered weapons and such on bl2, I mean u could but it didn’t stick, bl1 and bl3 did and it ruins online play, yes u could just avoid it but I think most people will see something like that and at least wanna try it, and I found bl3 gameplay pretty boring, it’s like the opposite of bl1, where bl1 had such little options of variety with guns, bl3 feels like they asked 2nd graders to come up with the silliest guns ever
