I am shaking my head because what they have and are building in the USA pales in comparison to what they have and are building in China and are also most probably more than 3-10 times more expensive due to multiple delays and cost overruns. The USA is indeed falling behind. And what the USA has only on the drawing board, they are already reality in China.

It is of course fine to talk about the performance difference in speed, but it is not purely the performance difference of the vehicle. The reason is the disparate environmental regulations of each country. This regulation ultimately determines the speed. Therefore, the Shinkansen in Japan can run faster if it wants to.

Given the failure of HS2 here in the U.K., I despair of the U.K.’s ability to manage its railway projects and its railways generally to a proper standard - the only solution is to have an external body like the Chinese or the Japanese being brought in to take complete and unrestricted control of the U.K. railways, backed by very strong laws to ensure that this is maintained, as most U.K. railways are of a very poor standard compared to the Chinese or Japanese railways - even the railways of Eastern Europe are of a better standard than the U.K. and there is no reasonable nor valid excuse as to why this is - China can achieve these projects because the mindset of its people and its leaders is the correct mindset, that must be adopted here in the U.K. to achieve the same level of success

The High speed Train of the Mediterranean corridor in Spain is a much bigger proyect than many of this ‘Top 10 biggest megaproyects’. It’s more than 1000km long, already under construction in 95%, 36% already finised and in use. It goes from the French border through Gerona, Barcelona, Tarragona, Castellón, Valencia, Alicante, Murcia, Almería, Granada, Málaga, and Algeciras. For pasengers and freight, serving some of the most important Mediterranean ports (Algeciras, Valencia, Barcelona, Malaga) and will be finished much sooner than british HS2 or Californian HS, as Spain, the second largest HS network in the world has the knowhow, the expertise, and the best budget eficiency.

The Grand Paris Express project consists of 4 new lines, not 2, plus 3 extensions to 2 lines. The extensions have opened in June, and the first section of a new line, M15 South, will open in 2025 and will be 35 km and 16 stations. M15 will be the giant, 75 km long, fully deep underground loop line in the suburbs. There will be at least 220 trains running on the new lines.
