I've just picked my old Zenit E that I haven't touched in 10 years. God, it's so shit compared to Nikon FM2 or Contax 139Q lol. Maybe gear is not the most important thing, but it certainly adds to the enjoyment.

Agreed. Better gear does make the process easier and because of that it could be more enjoyable. I definitely won’t be switching from the Nikon F3.

Great video. I have one of these cameras, I got it some years ago from a junk shop. I ran a roll of film through it and loved the results and it was built like a tank but it just wasn't enjoyable to use. Thanks for reminding me of the day I took that camera for a walk.

doe that helios lens have the same swirly bokeh as the helio 44-2?

I never shot the 44-2, but from what I’m aware there is a minimal difference when it comes to the bokeh, but the difference is unnoticeable. You will be able to achieve that swirly bokeh with this lens.

As a history buff, I've bought several pre-war cameras. Maybe I want to see the world through the same lens that survived World War II and the Cold War. The best two pictures I ever took were in Hiroshima using a ~1936 Zeiss Contax III with a dead light meter (they actually had an on-board light meter 88 years ago). My spouse carries a Barnack Leica II every day, also from 1936 IIRC, but with a much more modern Voightlander lens. Lenses are probably one area where gear really affects image quality, but even some of the plastic, meniscus lens, or no lens cameras can produce interesting images. I am currently testing a Leica III, but I think next week I will try a ~1914 Kodak Vest Pocket "Soldier's Camera" to see what that is like. Of course, I still prefer the ~1980's SLRs for features, spot light meter, and size - that just affects my comfort and ease-of-use, not image quality directly. Nice video. Thanks.
@adammissedfocus
@adammissedfocus Күн бұрын
Wow that’s really amazing and I am curious of those photos. Agreed it is definitely interesting to use pre war cameras and see how the image taking process was like. I believe those old lenses add character to an image that you can’t replicate and that’s what makes them soo fun to use, but I won’t lie the comfort of the Nikon F3 or Leica R8 is nice and makes me want to shoot more. Thank you for watching!

Hey! Love the video and the shots. What ISO did you rate your film at when metering? Did you go for 50 or all the way up to 200? Which do you recommend for night photography?
@adammissedfocus

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video. In the video and whenever I shoot lomo redscale I always rate it at 160 Iso. I enjoy the more contrasty look that this filmstock gives at 160. Soo I definitely recommend that for night photography.

I wouldn't wear black on a hot day, but being from Texas, low 90's in August is unseasonably cool for me. Actually, to your south,near Zagan,the weather has been remarkably cooler than last year, and way better than 2020. The rain keeps messing with the lighting though. Yesterday, I loaded up with some 100 speed film in a few cameras I am function testing, but by the afternoon it was cloudy, dark, and a little rain. When I called it quits, the sun came out. 😅 Great video, some nice shots. Agreed, Ektar is very good the last one.

Agreed. All the zoom point and shoots I’ve tried sucked at zooming. A good rule of thumb is to have your shutter speed higher or equal to your focal length to avoid blurry photos, but sadly we can’t set the shutter speed ourselves and that’s why we get blurry photos. Well at least that’s my theory.
