Steve, this and all your other videos are a god send, and I always watch them just before I go out and practice for my IAM test. I am very close to a cross check so fingers crossed I will be putting in for my exam soon. Thanks again 👍🏻

Hi Just been watching and as I’ve just started my IAM journey and it’s just not flowing!!Been for a couple of observed rides and got told I’m in the wrong gear which I’ve adjusted but still not flowing! It’s very frustrating at times but I’ve been told to stick with it and it will come!!

At 8.15 you are committing to an overtake on a 60 mph road. A little earlier you said that the speed limit was 60 mph and to maintain that speed. I saw no real braking or slowing before the overtake so assuming that the van was doing 60 mph that on the overtake you were going faster than that. Was that the case?

Interesting. @4:48 do you honestly think you would have been able to "stop in the distance you can see to be clear on your side of the road"?

Counter steering V positive steering. Looks like the Emperors new cloths to me. Am I the only one that can see? There's nothing there. I just don't get it. Motorcycles have been successfully turning corners for over 150 years. What are these new techniques bringing to the party? A bike goes round a corner, great. But does it go round corners better with these techniques? If they do, then can someone, with time to spare, have a go at explaining it to an old fart like me.

Watched "bends" too. No mention of the road surface. I have mental issues with the loose gravel you get in the middle of the lane. Always try to avoid it but this obviously effects your position. Also surely if you can see clearly round the bend on the road you can use more of a racing line rather than hugging the nearside / offside as you advise for the road?

"avoid the white paint where possible" 😂 "the danger is behind you" how many bikers are hit from behind? Not many is my guess. The danger is in front of you. It's what the whole video is about.... Great vid though Steve 👍

This was worrying to watch, as you was overthinking and trying to do to much that you missed your turn. That is how a crash happens just like that, ride with safety and in a clear and calm mind. And going round most of them left turns you was to close to the line if a car was cutting that corner this would be a different video.

Brilliant introduction Steve - I've never had any advanced training but do try to ride as per your ethos - living in the countryside as I do (Cotswolds) we have the added perils of wildlife and tractors (wide turning angles on those buggers) so you have to keep yer wits about you. Steve

Very good video with good information. However, personally, I would either not have done the overtake maneuver at around 14-20 or exceeded the 40 mph limit for a while. It seems that brake was already being applied as soon as the car was passed. I don't know who is driving that car, could be a fiery temper type. Although he should slow to the set limit he may not be of that mindset and just sees a biker overtaking and then brake lights going on. This may piss him off. I think I would have left this overtake and passed him when I had a good stretch of fast road. I fully understand that this is an instructional video and limits had to complied with but getting in front of someone and showing brake lights is provocative. If I had not noticed the speed limit decrease before the over take maneuver I just would have rolled the throttle shut and ignored the fact that I was exceeding the limit for a short distance. I may be wrong in this, I am always learning, but I must be doing something right in forty two years of riding bikes in all weathers.

@@peterwoodham7487 your wife won’t help you live longer it just feels longer. My initial problem was confidence and handling weight after a long gap. But take a few lessons I joined advanced riders group now sitting my advanced test on 28th this month. Feel at home on bike now love it. If you feel ok on it go for it but be careful a lot more idiots and really bad atttitudes on roads now. Safe riding

If one is in the faster lane and doing speeds in excess of 80 mph on a 70 mph dual carriageway is one taking into account the differential between the speed being shown by ones speedometer and the allowance made by the EEC to all manufacturers to allow 6.25 mph plus 10% on speedometer readings or the tolerances and allowances in excess of the speed limits giving by the police of some 2 mph plus 10% or what. It seems its one or the other on this journey. Or are we just speeding cos we can or feel the need or feel justified to ride faster due to overtaking.

Good safe ride with excellent commentary. I'm a ex bike cop (28 years MoD Special Escort Group). The methods used here are exactly the same as my own advanced police class 1 bike training at Chalk Farm and Cardington during the early 1980s riding a BMW R75. It was all about safe progress not just excessive blue light speeds as some often think. I knew 2 other advanced police riders killed on bikes in the 1990s (one T boned the other killed by a drunk driver). Happy days. Stay safe.
