Always swim across the water and never at oncoming waves. Not obvious unless you've been told. Dont swim where you can't stand, at least you can go under water dig hands and feet into the sea bed by frog squatting and leap back into a direction with enough force to help you start over. Warm up and walk in slowly to adjust temperature. Even shallow water has a tremendous force especially if you are fatigued, short of breath, get water in the lung from a wave. If you're being bashed by waves don't fight it submerge kick roll and turn on to back. Small waves are dangerous, water is dangerous full stop. Bring a waterproof bag that acts as a buoy.

"Sighting" would have been a good mention. It's wise to periodically look ahead. Otherwise, I miss my escapees from Alcatraz. Much love from Lake Ontario!

@JennaOnTheBeach I'm actually doing 1.2 km in the pool EVERY day and doing my 4'th sea swim today. I'm 57 years old and just learned to swim this year which I was afraid of all my life. Anything is possible if you really focus. Ps I love your vids. They really helped.

thanks for the tips! i've been going swimming the past few days and was getting frustrated by my faulty breathing. I used to swim a lot as a child and was surprised that i'd lost the habbit of doing what you explained in the video. It was very annoying for me since I knew that I was physically capable of doing it right, but had a mental block (I panicked because I wasn't sure if I'd be able to reach my goal with sufficient breath. I'm trying again tomorrow with your advice in mind!

I mostly just swim on my back, that solves a lot of breathing issues, lol. I guess if you're swimming competitively you need to do the front crawl for speed, but I just swim for pleasure, so I'm not restricted in that way. Side stroke is also good for breathing continuously. Back swimming and side swimming also keep your eyes in the water less.

out of at least a dozen videos i have watched, no body talked about these drills and taking rests and breathers in open water like this. Super practical. Thanks a ton

[Sweep the eyes,] not head. Helps, get comfy quickly. For my SHT(learn), of breast stroke - they hav me, dive down - then ease up! Like a snorkeler. Feet - follow down - nearly 90deg.
