I have a 4,000wt continuous solar generator. I want to put it under the bed in my rv and run wire to my control panel. I also want to put a 12vt lithium house battery under there. I plan on adding 12vt small fans to pull air under the bed and out the pass thru. What is my best way? I want my all in 1 solar generator to take the place of my exterior 30amp cord. First thanks for your knowledge much appreciated. My 5th wheel was working without a battery for 3 months and recently my fridge and lights went out and no fuse is blown out

You could check for seperate dedicated breakers or fuses near the batteries, sometimes they can be hidden behind an access panel

Where would a solar charge controller plug into system/
@CpmobileАй бұрын
The solar controller has an input from the solar panels and an output which connects directly to the 12v system. For relatively small solar systems you can tie in at an open slot in the fuse box as long as amperage limits are checked. For larger solar setups we typically tie in directly to the batteries.
@paulharper2425Ай бұрын
@@Cpmobile only 100watts. I still think I will just go directly to batteries if no issues

Great Video. I have T T with a 12 volt only refrigerator. I was hoping to place with a 120 volt one. any tips on wiring it. Do I go straight to breaker with a outlet or if I use an inverter will it run off 12 volt like the original?

An inverter would be a good option for this, we have 2 other videos about inverters that should help explain how it would work

My camper has a 200W solar panel and is "Prepped" for an inverter. It has an 120V AC line that you cut and connect to the AC In and Out connectors on the inverter. How are the cables from the battery or batteries run to the inverter? Try not to "assume", however do the cables run from the batteries through a properly sized breaker to the 12V DC in on the inverter?
@Cpmobile3 ай бұрын
Yes, that’s correct. The 12v wires to the battery should be appropriately sized, and run through and fuse or circuit breaker that meets the specs for the inverter.

My only question is since this is a 30 amp service, I see you have the 30 amp main breaker but then there are 2- 20’s and a split breaker that’s tough to see…this all adds up to more than 30 amp. Does that mean you can only have certain breakers on at certain times so they don’t trip or am I not understanding how the system works? Thank you
@Cpmobile3 ай бұрын
All breakers are on at the same time, the breakers are to control the upper limit of power usage. So a 15 amp breaker may only have 1 amp flowing through it depending on what power is being used. It’s possible the total current from all the smaller circuits could exceed the 30 amp limit without exceeding any individual circuit breaker limits. That’s why the main breaker exists. So overall you just monitor total power useage at any given time. Same scenario is possible in a house, too many devices on at one time could trip the main breaker.

@@Cpmobile Ok thank you. I’m trying to determine whether to go with a 30 or 50 amp service on my race trailer which has small living quarters. I’ll have 8 total 110 receptacles, 1 for a plug in AC unit, 1 for a small air compressor, 1 for a car battery charger and 1 for the converter/charger…the rest are just misc. DC power will be water pump, shower fan, car winch and low voltage LED exterior/interior lights. The trailer will be plugged into a portable generator all the time. Based on what you’re saying I think a 30 amp service would be sufficient because not all of these things will be on or used at the same time.

Really like the video! New RV owner. I was wondering if I can shut the converter off so just the AC outlets are powered. I have a solar charger and dont want to suck juice for battery charging from my power station.
@Cpmobile5 ай бұрын
Yes, no problem with doing that. You can turn the circuit breaker off for the converter. Sometimes the converter will be in the same circuit as some outlets so that’s the only potential drawback.

Travis Like discussed with you elsewhere I've got the 1200 (or) 1500 watt inverter on my Jayco. One thing that I have happen, when incoming power is lost, the "fraction of a second" from incoming to inverter power kills the internet box for just enough time it has to go through the "reboot" thing for it's 5ish minutes and is a pain in the ash. Maybe it's just me and my lack of patience but the reason of this reply here is to ask..... Is there a way to make the transfer time short enough / instant like going opposite (Inverter to incoming power) time so it doesn't have to reboot the internet system? Thank you once again sir. Great videos on here!
@Cpmobile5 ай бұрын
Hello, it depends on the inverter. Some higher end inverters have a “ups” setting for “uninterruptible power supply” when transferring. You check the manual for your specific inverter and see if it has that function.

Hoping you pay attention to/see the comments on your videos as I'd like to pick your brain.... I've got an 800W solar with the 1200W inverter under my Jayco NorthPoint 377RLBH 5th wheel. At this time the inverter supplies power to only a few recepts in the coach. Two TVs, bedroom and living room and one next to the master bedroom bed. I want to add the inverter 120 to one more plug on the rig but my ignorance keeps me from performing the task at hand. How is the inverter supplying each of the circuits now? Or better, how to I add the output of the inverter to another breaker in the distribution panel? How is it fed, sort of thing? I am a career motor control/specialty Sparky with absolutely no experience in the solar field, the only part of "Sparkyisms" I hadn't put my screwdriver on.... Any help would be awesome!

Hi, it sounds like your Jayco has a single breaker installation, I have a video covering that: How RV Inverters Should Be Installed: Single Breaker Power Flow Xantrex X2000 Inverter kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZ6wn516a9l4mtE You could either tie the circuits together at the output of the circuit breakers, or switch to a whole house type inverter like in this video.

Hi Travis. Thank you for this video. In my 1994 Odessa RV I only have 12 volt appliances when either the key is in the on position or we are hooked to shore power. Any idea why I don't have 12 volt service when the coach is off and not hooked up to shore power? I believe it should and it does not.
@Cpmobile5 ай бұрын
Hello, it sounds like we aren’t getting any power from the house battery, so I would verify the house battery is in good condition and charged, as well as making sure the connection between the house battery and power distribution panel is good. Look for any blown fuses or tripped 12v circuit breakers.

Great video and I learned a lot. However, I am a nit confused on exactly what happens in the control panel. In my case, I only need the frig breaker to run thru the invertor. Do I disconnect those wires from the control panel and run them into the invertor. This would leave that particular breaker in active.-correct? Curt
@Cpmobile7 ай бұрын
In this setup, power would flow from the breaker to the inverter, then to the fridge. So when plugged in to shore power the breaker in the control panel is active. When on inverter the breaker on the inverter would still be active but not the breaker in the control panel.

thank you for the precise explanation. the power x box that is connected in line between the breaker box and the shore power what is the function of that?

It is a transfer switch, for when you have multiple ac inputs such as shore power and generator. To make sure only one source of ac power is connected.
