I’ve made this before. The first day it was fine but plain. Overnight it had a lemony taste. Very good. I thought about it and most people wouldn’t have lemons! So great recipe!

My Grandmother on my mother's side of the family was a great cook. They were successful farmers from south central Illinois. They were industrious people who not only farmed but also had several enterprises throughout their lives that were important for the community they lived in. My Grandmother had a cafe in the local little town they lived in during the depression, Grandpa had a feed store and seed business as well farmed the family farm of about 400 acres. Grandma was a great cook and would fix food from the cafe such as the vinegar pie and cream custard pie occasionally for us. She and I were the only ones who liked gooseberry pie, so when gooseberries were in season, she would send me to pick the berries and we would have gooseberry pie just for us. Really liked the vinegar pie, but her pumpkin pie was the best. I think you are doing a great service to American history by collecting these recipes from local sources. I have a small collection of cookbooks that were published by mostly churches women's groups from Illinois printed in the 1960's and 70's. I find some of the recipes have brand names for ingredients that the brands no longer exist.

What variety of sorghum did you plant? I’m from W.Va. and curious what varieties others are having luck with.
