I definitely need both the app link and the web link. Actually, I use the app link to a note more than the web link. From other apps that is, inside Evernote and between notes I only use the @-linking option. Example: From todoist projects I use the app link to open a project’s note in Evernote quick and easy. From Notion on the other hand I have to use the web link, as Notion doesn't recognize local app links and doesn’t make them clickable, so I have to use the web link there. Opening a note in the desktop app via a web link takes forever before it opens in the desktop app, and also leaves an ”orphaned” browser window/tab behind. Confusing that the app link copy feature is gone from the three-dot menu, while still available in the top menu and the right-click option in the notes list. (That it shows the keyboard shortcut as being the same for both the app link and the web link is annoying, but I guess should be corrected soon.)

It's pathetic that decades after Evernote was initially developed, thought leaders and users alike still struggle to organize their notes! Come on, Evernote… give us unlimited notebook (folder) nesting! And develop a way to mirror notebooks into other stacks, as is available in Workflowy.

Thanks for the explanations, which correspond exactly to my tests. Using the Web-Link in other applications (instead of the App-Link) and defining the choice so that the note opens in the application is a real disaster, it takes a long time and is really frustrating. Once again, I notice that Bending Spoons doesn't use Evernote intensively, otherwise it wouldn't make this kind of change.

Helpful, thankyou. Unfortunately I can't get it to work on Windows (Chrome + Windows desktop app). If I leave it on "ask every time" I can manually go from Evernote on the the web to my desktop app. If I change the setting to "Desktop app" it just stays on the web version and dosn't automatically go the desktop version. I've linked to this video from an ongoing discussion thread about the topic on the Evernote forum.

Not sure if this is the case there, but here's something you can try. The first choice setting has to always be done on the browser. And that setting is shown on a pop-up box. Meaning that if you have Chrome set to block pop-ups, you'll never see it.

Thanks for working so hard to clarify such a complicated topic. I understand what they are trying to do. Having two kinds of links has been a pain and source of confusion since the beginning. They are choosing to standardize on Web links. If the goal is to standardize on a single type of link, then if you consider all the possible scenarios web links are probably the right choice. I just think that understanding the impact this will have on external apps is important, and you covered that well. There is one thing that is still missing from this conversation, and it is the reason I freaked out when I noticed this change. Ever since they introduced note links when you clicked on a WEB link INSIDE the Evernote App it would open up the Browser and go to the web version of the note. This was what I was worried about way more than the external app issue. That would mean that every time I clicked on a note link in Evernote Desktop it would open a browser window, check the link and then redirect it back to the desktop app. That would be frustrating beyond belief. Not acceptable. But what slipped through the cracks is that fact that in 10.97.x they are intercepting those web links in the Desktop app and taking you directly to the note without the browser re-direct. This is new behavior and addresses that concern. If you go back to 10.96 you'll find that web links behave as I described. So this is an important detail. I wish Evernote would communicate a bit better sometimes.

They need to sort out the keyboard shortcut for copying the link. When you right click it says it is for the app link but in the three dots menu it says it is for the web link. It is actually still for the app link but if the future is the web style link then I guess they will change it.

When I noticed the menu change to the remove app link I freaked out. I use the keyboard short cut to paste APP links throughout my day and the menu told me it was pasting web links. I headed straight for the bug report page. At least right now it turns out that the shortcut is still pasting app links. Note links are probably the most important feature for me and I really don't want them to break it. Many years back when linking was new I got my links all mixed up between web and app links. (They still don't give you the option for an app link on iOS or iPad os). I would try and open some links on the desktop app and it would send me to the web. It took me weeks to go through all my notes and sort it out - and to learn to never try and past a link on my mobile devices. I think I see where they are going with this feature, but I'm worried about it. If they remove the app links then my browser will be involved everytime I try and open a link. That means evernote on the web will open and log in so that it can turn around and send the link back to the app. That is going to slow things down. Some times I have trouble getting the web version to load, in those cases I just wouldn't be able to open a link I guess. I think this is going to make things more fragile.

The thing about Evernote is that EVERYONE will organize it differently. It is intentionally designed this way. One thing that all of your subscribers do have in common is that they would be well served to know the best practices for searching for what they are looking for, especially when using the AI component, (like what search terms, etc.), but also just the best way to find their content the fastest way possible. Indeed, there are several other great apps out there. I'm constantly testing them and many times I share tutorials and my opinions here on the channel. However, for what I need, none ever checked as many boxes as Evernote. One good example is the Web Clipper. I never found one as complete and as good as Evernote's. And the list goes on and on. So, when I weigh the pros and cons, Evernote is always the winner if I had to choose a single app. But there are other apps in my toolbox. For example, I use Obsidian every day for many things I do. And I have already published many videos about it.

Probably they fund a bug that they are working on. Every so often it happens with these beta features. After all, that is the point of releasing a beta version of a feature. Vlad, I've been a loyal user of EN since its starting days. I started creating too many notebooks -(wrong idea), then I relied on tags. Now with AI I don't think that is neccesary. We are wrong (I think) that we need to organize our notes as the old shelves in cabinets. For me what it works is a good Title and AI will take of that. Our main objective of EN is to storage and to retrieve the info as quick as possible. AI is the solution.

But just now when I tried out the code block again while watching your video - there it was; plain text formatting in all its glory! :-) So I can keep using the code block for non-code use (even though I have to manually chose Plain text as ”language”, as English text is interpreted as Visual Basic .NET when set to Auto).

(You asked....) I'm liking the new Pinned notes feature, though as I explained elsewhere the implementation needs to be improved. I use it to pin task lists to the top of different notebooks as well as things that I would normally keep in my shortcuts like my current focus list, reading list etc. In my 'knowledge' notebook I pin MOCs (Maps of content). I treat notebook as contexts (not folders) - so when I switch to a new context it is nice to have these things sorted to the top. Shortcuts are useful, but don't have this 'focusing' ability. Before pinned notes, I would use Evernote's sort order to get things to sort to the top (like putting - or . or _ in front of the name), but I'd have to sort my list by name to make it work. I've been wanting links to headers for a long time now and I use it a lot. I generally create fewer but longer notes and It very useful for me to link to a header in the middle of a note from another note and be able to jump directly to that spot. Also the related feature of putting a table of context at the top of the note is also something I have wanted for ever. Evernote's current link to header implementation feels like an un-finished hack though. When you paste a header link in a note you get a cryptic guid like (evernote:///view/15651/s1/5f2fed86d0-d169-6756-bf22-1a21ec421b1f#d7513dc-629d-40e6-bb28-5700e2027922/8d550e99-f031-4c9d-9b05-67666ase3df1ad/). Horrible. They should use Obsidian as an example and just use the name of the note and the header name like this: `My other note name > header name`. Simple. Another great Obsidian feature is embedded notes (where you embed a heading into another note). Evernote could do something by using their link 'preview' feature to give show you a snipped of the other note starting at the linked header. I've made these suggestions to them, but maybe if others jumped on as well?? Also while we are on the subject of links, can they please, please return note links back to the color green??!! When I'm scanning through a note it is very important to me to be able to quickly tell the difference between an external link and a note link. They broke this in the last couple of months and it is driving me crazy. (In other note taking apps, external and internal links are visually different). Another feature I really like is collapsable headers. I didn't think I'd like it as much as I do. I don't find it that useful when writing code, but for my long notes I use it all the time! Finally I like the recent feature that lets you create a new linked note from within another note. During the day I primarily capture stuff into a single daily note and at the end of the day I move some thing out into their own notes and replace them with a link. This feature really speeds this up for me. (It is also something inspired by Obsidian and other).

Gall y risg o'r cyllideb, pan fydd y cynodau'n eu cymryd, fod yn cael ei ysgrifennu gan edrych yn fawr i'r ysgrifennu'r cympas o'r ysgrifennwyr sy'n ymddangos." On Mac: Transcribes to Welsh. • On iPhone (Evernote app on iOS 17.6): Issue persists. Additional Tests: • Wife's Recording: Same issue with Welsh transcription despite being from a different UK region. Recording within Evernote on Mac: Transcribes to English without issue. Conclusion: The issue appears to be specific to the recording function within the Evernote app on iPhone with iOS 17.6. Comments: Reflect Notes had a similar issue initially. Their solution involved specifying the language within the app and providing a block of text to "train" the Al. If you have contacts at Evernote, could you share this feedback? It seems others are also experiencing this issue. Support tickets and forum posts do not seem to yield substantial feedback. Thanks for your help

KZbin sometimes flags comments as spam. Give me a moment. I'll check the spam filter.

Interestingly, the version of Evernote on my iPads do not have the mobile homescreen. The app on my iPads open in the widgets, just like the desktop app.

That's the expected behavior. Maybe Bending Spoons decided to keep it like that because of the screen size.

If you're viewing the list of your notes but have not selected a notebook, the 'Pin to Notebook' option is not displayed. If you have selected a notebook, it is displayed.

That's how the feature works. You can only pin and see pinned notes inside a notebook.

@@vladcampos Yes, thanks. When I first tried the feature on my iPhone, it didn't work. I wondered why until I discovered that I hadn't selected a notebook. I use Tags rather than Notebooks, so I usually have not selected a notebook.

Missing Create Event option. This would be awesome.

There's no link to a video :( But I saw the shortcut so I'm happy, too. :)

It's in the Shorts screen, not the description. KZbin doesn't allow clickable links in the description of Shorts 🙄 Anyway, what matters is that you found the shortcut 😉

I wish they add a shortcut to search in the note

I don't know about ctrl+f on Windows, but that's already possible on the Mac using cmd+f.

Hashtags work very well for me there, but it will not do magic. You'll have to gradually build your followers base there. It's been very good for promoting my work, but I also love it as a social media.
