If it were your brakes, you could put the car on a hill, put it in neutral and take your foot off the brakes and the car wouldn't roll or not roll as much as it should given the grade of the hill. With that being said, a brake caliper could be sticking. You would need to pull the wheels off and have a look to see if the piston is retracted. 2016 is a split year for the cars. The first half was the older style turbo engine. The second half was the newer. If it is an early one, you would need to do the PCV fix kit and more than likely a valve cover gasket to eliminate that issue. Since you are throwing that code and the bad cat code, it makes me think you are getting way too much air into the system, the O2 is reading incorrectly and screwing with the fuel trims, causing bad running conditions. It sounds like you may have a couple different issues happening at the same time.

I don't know who this person is you are mentioning, but going by what he is saying, that strategy is implying that the dead battery has the ability to hold a charge. Sometimes batteries run low and can be charged up like that, or with a charger, and hold a charge to start a car. Sometimes a battery gets a dead cell and can no longer hold a charge. So in that case, all that is happening is the jumper car is running and wasting gas. Obviously, I believe the way I explain is the correct way to jump the car, hence why I made the video. This is the way cars have always been jumped. Yes cars have gotten more computerized and more sensitive. There is always a chance of something possibly getting damaged. But it is a very small chance assuming you do it correctly. As far as the whole idea of alternators fighting each other, I think that is pretty farcical. When a car is running, the overwhelming majority of power being generated goes to running the vehicle. A very small amount goes back to charging the battery back up. Assuming you disconnect the cables within a reasonably shortish time after the car is jumped off and running, there is no battle existing between the cars both running at the same time.

Be it a battery low on voltage, bad ground, coil dying, misfire, etc. Try to scan for codes and see if it pops something up like a misfire on a certain cylinder. It could just be coincidental timing that the service stabilitrak warning popped up after you added the stuff to the transmission.

V-Belts are so much easier to work on! You don't know pain until you have changed a serpentine on a modern FWD import car where you have less than a half in inch of space to put the belt tool on the stupid tensioner and then you have to pull on it so hard to get the belt off that you end up rounding off the aluminium of the tensioner what a bad design. Another flaw with it is now you have tensioner and an idler pulley that can go bad which is more parts to fail and ruin your day. And with V-Belts if your AC compressor locks up on a serpentine setup you are stranded on the side of the road with V-Belts you can just take that one belts off and still drive away. Imagine your smog pump locks up and leaves you stranded lol throw that thing in the trash!

Facts you don't need to have a smog pump or a catalytic converter if you don't dump too much fuel into the exhaust through too much valve overlap, not enough ignition advance and fuel dumping carb that flows more fuel than air cough cough quadrajet. Back in the 60's before all the regulations cars ran so much better. The cam profiles were better the carbs were better and the ignition timing was better both mechanically and through vacuum advance that the gave the engine the extra timing it wanted at idle and part throttle. It is a common misconception that the hardened valve seats were made to condensate from the switch to unleaded gas. But I believe it was because of the hotter temperatures in the combustion chamber from not enough ignition advance, creating premature valve seat failure.

I have a 2014 Chevy Sonic with a non-turbo 1.8L engine. I am not a mechanic but stumbled upon your video. My question is that I think my Sonic has this problem too but I don't see a kit for it. The problem is that after driving for 10 minutes, it starts running rough and there is squealing around the cranskshaft area. I cant remeber the service engine code but it was something about running too lean. I also noticed my dipstick had some suction on it when I pulled it out. I also am afraid to drive it because when I had it in park and tapped the gas pedal the engine revved up by itself to around 3000 rpm then slowly came back down. Does this sound like the same problem you have with the 1.4L engines? I also like to mention I only have 62,000 miles on it. Any advice would be appreciated.
@greasyfingergarageАй бұрын
The PCV issue is a predominately 1.4L turbo engine issue. The 1.8L are generally less prone to issues. With that being said, it doesn't mean that you may have a PCV problem. Without knowing what the code is exactly, it could be a multitude of things. If it is running lean, that means its getting too much air. That could be happening anywhere in the intake system, but usually after the MAF. You may have a loose hose. You may have a cracked hose. You may have a dirty sensor. You may have just changed your air filter and not closed the box correctly. I would recommend searching your specific problem for that specific engine and see what you can find. As far as the squeaking around the crank and the dipstick noise, I would guess that your crank seal has blown out and needs a replacement.

How about chryslers mds/gms afm systems? A more problematic concept, in an attempt to gain 2 mpg on a gas-guzzling v8 engine by deactivating 1/2 of the cylinders, than what its actually worth.

You could lump any sort of displacement on demand systems in to that. GM's drops lifters all the time and a lot of people yank all that garbage and put in normal cams/lifters.

My choice is opti spark on the Chevy small block

I don't think the opti spark is a bad as a lot of people think. The idea of it makes a decent amount of sense. They just didn't do a good enough job of making sure they stayed sealed.

I have to agree with the person who said nylon timing gear teeth. Engineers! ….am I right?
@greasyfingergarageАй бұрын
Its certainly a valid choice.

Prob'ly a bean counter that they tried to turn into an engineer who came up with that, along with all the other obvious corner cutting ideas.

@@thomasblevins1662 I agree it sucks, and I understand why they did it. It’s about noise. Car makers didn’t want customers complaining about gear noise in their brand new cars, and by the time the plastic crumbles, it’s out of warranty. The nylon overmolded gears were actually more expensive to make than a steel gear. Still, for all of us who had our timing sets fail because of that…it sucks.
