Thanks for sharing this! I'm doing a reading journal for the first time for 2025, so I've been devouring content. lol I like your barn doors for your 2025 books. I'm trying to figure out how to incorporate a barn door or three in my 2025 journal. I hope you'll share any monthly spreads you do, or maybe quarterly flip-throughs? I'm looking forward to seeing how your journal grows throughout the year!

...Yup, this is precisely why gatekeeping in the literary market needs to be stamped out by federal regulation. Too many 'liberal' (meaningless word, given the context) women in positions where they get to screen authors to stonewall them from getting their work published because it doesn't advance their propaganda. All of these agent bios with heavy indications of a DEI bias, proves that the entire medium is now co-opted by this stuff. The result is resoundingly clear: Mediocrity, sharp decay in readership, no more original fiction, no more flagship IPs. You are destroying everything. Just a procession of foaming at the mouth, line-towing ideologues and harmless fluff, fan fiction and smut producers, which flood our bookstores with frivolous and often mean-spirited garbage that is constantly promoting social division and the decay of morality for the young. You are TOXIC people. Books are upstream from society. It is absolutely heartbreaking to hear these cynical takes and faux concerns, under the guise of "Justice" in a medium which is the genesis of creative freedom. You guys are just about done here. The common folk want amazing stories with higher values and superior moral positions that speak to humans as a whole, not whatever you crabs in a bucket decided society should become. You are the hate. You are the evil and the decay and you keep projecting that to your perceived adversaries like we're all just knuckle-draggers over here. People are seeing this and the consensus was just revealed this election: EVERYONE is sick of you. You are free to write and publish whatever you want, but you don't get to force the rest of us to make it about your politics. Literature is not your personal playground. It is Democracy manifest, it is open and available to all views and approaches, you literal, pockmarked FASCIST. I'm writing my books to defeat this diseased mentality and no matter how much bs I have to endure from you people, it will come through and prove by merit why you're trash. These braindead takes from embittered people over my craft, make me angry enough to make that my personal crusade going forward. I won't let you destroy creative freedom, you decadent, stupid philistines. The day my work is recognized I will immediately place all of my efforts to ensure that you don't get to attack freedom of speech ever again.

😮Let's be honest, it's abortion your talking about. And the us supreme Court literally said we have no opinion on it. Almost every liberal state has less restrictive abortion than they did under roe Wade. Some states have more restrictive. Disagree, but it seems like a pretty logical result in a federated republic.

I disagree with your opinion about Carrie because I adore it! To be fair though I have a very biased opinion on it because I read it as a very insecure teenager with many issues so I connected with Carrie and Sue as characters. This isn't me dismissing your opinion of course! It's just that with this book's format you need to connect with the characters in a very short time to get invested. I recommend the Green Mile and his short story collection The Night Shift. Also it's not one of his books but a movie adaptation of his short story The Body but I recommend the movie Stand By Me, it is a very heartfelt story, if you like River Phoenix the ending will make you cry. I also want to read Gerald's Game and Dolores Claiborne because of how good their movie adaptations are. I haven't read 11/22/63 because I am not from the US and don't know anything about JFK but if the books covers it I will give it a shot.

That makes a lot of sense the connection to Carrie. I read it probably in my mid twenties so my recollection is vague. More of just the memory of not enjoying it. But definitely doesn’t mean that it might speak to others. Also thanks for the recs! I have been wanted to try out one of his collections. I don’t typically pick them up but having a rec for one helps (since he has so many).

it's so funny to hear just how wildly people's opinions can differ. i agree that stephen king is often times long-winded, but honestly it's something i enjoy. HOWEVER even with that in mind, that's crazy that people thought that the first chunk of salem's lot was hard to get through because i was fully captivated the whole time. (i do fully agree that he often drops the ball on endings, and his portrayals of women and minorities and like.... children is quite questionable at times) short list of my fav king books, just off the top of my head: Hearts in Atlantis!!!!!!! (fav book of all time) It Duma Key Salem's Lot honorary mentions of "was obsessed with this book until the ending" Tommyknockers Bag of Bones
@moonlightlibrary

Loool except for their endings. I love that. I haven’t don’t know anything about Hearts in Atlantis. Vaguely I feel it has something to do with baseball????? And his book lengths definitely intimidate me. But I’ve been working (for years) on letting go of the idea that I have to read as many books as I can in a year. I used to skip big books so that I could try to hit higher reading goals. No thanks. Big books are great. BUT sometimes it’s the fear of commitment that gets me. So glad I’m hearing so many great things about Salem’s Lot. I really feel this is the year for me to start it.

@kaylasmith3070 2 ай бұрын
@@moonlightlibrary hearts in atlantis is a compilation of 3 short stories, but tbh the first two times i read it i didn't realize because the stories are sooo cohesive. it's not a horror book, it's more of a war commentary drama that examines similar themes across different stages of life. sooooo so good. also there are some dark tower references. i can totally relate to the wanting to maintain appearances when it comes to reading--but may i say that it's important to remember what got you into reading in the first place, and find value in the process over the outcome (: i hope salem's lot connects with you like it connected with me!!

@@moonlightlibrary Salems Lot makes a great double feature with They Thirst by Robert McCammon. I don't know if you've read anything by McCammon, but the publishing companies at the time marketed him and King similarly, with McCammon being the "poor man's" Stephen King. Truth is, Robert McCammon is definitely his own thing, and They Thirst is just as brilliant as Salems Lot but in a totally different way.
