As a former athiest, I understand where he is coming from because I used to think that way, but I realized that was illogical. Your dad is a beautiful soul, I can see the sincerity in his heart. I believe if he opens his mind and heart to let Allah guide him, he can see the truth and let go of these irrational beliefs. I also see in your eyes how much it hurts when you see him reject Allah, I have the same issue with my wife. I don't believe he has an ego, I can see he is sincere. Let him know that if the creator makes a creation, then it is the responsibility of the creator to set guidelines and rules to the creation. That is not policing that is care. He lives in a liberal society that polices him anyways, so the policing idea from his point of view makes no sense regarding to what I just explained. Also to touch on the comfort blanket, that is subjective feeling, and that is not Islam. Like all religions except Islam they need that comfort blanket because they rely on blind faith. In Islam we have faith through knowledge and rational thought. You have to explain to him that something cannot come from nothing and show him the proofs of the Qur’an, and the undeniable prophecies of the prophet pbuh. If he has faith in gravity being true due to the theoretical scientific data, then he should rationally believe in God through theoretical data that supports the reality of God. It is not feelings, it is cold hard fact. This is why I am no longer an athiest and I am a believer in Allah and the messengers of Allah Alhumdulillah. I will send blessings to your father in my next prayer. Insha'Allah he is guided to the truth, and Insha'Allah his soul grows so he can have ease in this life and the next. Please reply if you have any questions and don't be too passive with your dad. Be firm with your belief because you have the truth on your side. Islam answers all questions.
