Did you figure out where the water was getting in? Still have your CSY?
@PaulSedwick2 жыл бұрын
Yes, one of 4 below deck hydraulic autopilot mounting bolts was a large lag bolt. It had worked its way through the reinforced floor of a lazarette floor and the super thick hull. the water then came in through an inaccessible corner and drained out a weep hole about 6' away. I filled the hole with underwater epoxy putty and tightened all the mounting bolts and lag extremely tight with the ram disconnected. Never leaked again. Still have her but listing soon! I'm getting to old and we are moving to the great lakes.

Wow you did an amazing job, I'm starting a full restore of a 119880 csy 37 A floorplan this spring. She has been badly neglected so I'm starting by repainting the hull. What paint do you recommend for the bottom it's the burgundy red color. Thanks Tim.
@PaulSedwick2 жыл бұрын
Best of luck with your restore! Bottom paint selection is a lot about your local water and flow. In the Tampa Bay area I'm a firm believer in Pettit Trinidad 75. It's 75% Cuprous Oxide and lasts us up to 10 years. I sailed her 8K nm solo around the North Atlantic 2019. The bottom paint is now 4-5 years and only a hand full of barnacles grow excluding prop and shaft. It's a hard epoxy based bottom paint I've used very successfully over the past 30 + or - years and would have nothing else. BTW I tried the "SR" type once, it did not perform as well. www.practical-sailor.com/boat-maintenance/special-maintenance-sectionpettit-trinidad-sr-leads-a-large-group-of-bottom-paints-2

Paul...great video...love your boat...again, I have a CSY 33....I ask a favor...could you take a couple good photos of the club boom (staysail) attachment point (not the traveler end)...and send them to me at [email protected] prior owner of my boat took off the club boom and forgot how it is attached...I need your photos to show me exactly how it is attached...very much appreciated..TNX. Chris
@PaulSedwick4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Do you have the bronze 2 piece tack attachment that fits around the wire? If so the 'U' shaped part goes over the wire and the boom attachment part slides in from behind on the 'hooks'. A bolt through the 2 pieces prevents them from coming apart.
@ckreitlein4 жыл бұрын
@@PaulSedwickTNX very much for the response. Yes I have the bronze 2 piece part...got the boom on that ...no problem....but how is the whole thing held down onto the deck so it does not rise up the stay wire? I made a wire pennant to hold it down, but then it flops down on the deck when the sail is furled.
@PaulSedwick4 жыл бұрын
@@ckreitlein yeah, same problem here! Ours had a wire pennant when purchased. I just use a shackle with line. Yes it is a PITA when first lowered but I then take the halyard from mast to the tack, loop it under the boom and fasten over the outhaul cleat hold in place. BTW the staysail deck casting on the 37 was not strong enough for my liking attached to a thin portion of the open anchor locker bulkhead. Simply pulling, by hand, on the inner stay flexed the deck an inch or more on ours. I used two 1" SS tubing flattened on the ends to attach from the 1/2" underside fastener to both sides of the hull near a 45 deg angle. Bolted through the hull with titanium fastners. Yes one can see a little dot on the outside but they are barely visible at a distance. They really beefed up the staysail which paid off big time in a few storms. I've run the staysail and double reefed main up to 45 knots in a seaway. I had a new staysail made of 8.88 oz fastnet dacron with one reef point. Never used the reef in the staysail. Cheers!

Thanks for the compliment Mike. Make no mistake it's a labor of love! Just returned from a 480 mile shakedown. She sailed well on most points except runs where the main is into the aft lowers most of the time, a trade-off. The CSY 37 is one tough cookie built of solid FRP - no hull or deck core materials. I think 80 or 90 were built. This is #72 - good luck with you search.

Hello Paul! Now that you have had this for a year. What are your thoughts on the boat in general and with this size motor? I am really considering getting the 8' porta bote but using the torpedo electric motor that is rated at about 3-4 hp. If you think it could use more power then i will just get a 4 stroke 6hp.
@PaulSedwick8 жыл бұрын
Hi Jay. Had her out about 20 times only from the dock. She is what she is and I like how she is. Anything this size and weight will be tipsy. Granddaughters love her even though she will not plane with the 3 of us. I'd beef up the transom with a larger motor. The 3.3 2-stroke weighs in at 29#, not many lighter. any super lightweight 8' boat will have a difficult time with a larger motor. I've had my share of deflatables - this is a super light utility. Wind is going to blow her around and the sole flexes but how many other dinghy's can transform themselves to less than 6" thickness. She is what she is and I like it.
@DavyRayBennett4 жыл бұрын
I have a 2 seater. I’m not sure what generation. It has a removable transom. I bought a 1971 6 hp outboard, but the company told me that it was only rated for a 4 hp. Can I add flotation to the transom?
@JayRSwan4 жыл бұрын
@@DavyRayBennett I added flotation to the transom of mine. I bent an aluminum bracket to clamp fenders to the back with C clamps. I also have a 6hp on mine.
