This is still the best demo of this pedal ive found and is what convinced me to buy it. Heres what ive noticed: every knob and switch drastically changes the tone, it is wildly versatile, and it’s extremely hard to dial in a bad sound. Basically every setting sounds beautiful. Edit: it also sounds awesome on bass

One of my favorite thicker tones is a JCA100H in normal channel, gain set about halfway... not clean but not super gainy, with a Catalinbread Naga Viper set as full range boost in front. That is with quite high output humbucker though, Seymour Duncan Black Winter. Still not a huge amount of distortion but it sounds great. I've become a pretty big fan of boost pedals since.

This thing puts in some work and is reasonably priced. It is not the most attractive pedal, but one of the best-sounding boost pedals I have heard. 🤘🤘🤘🤘

Okay to clear up the PCB issues - the 100 watt DSL and TSL previous to 2004 are the ones that have the issues with bias drift. The 50 watt amps don’t have this issue. The problem is with the fiberglass that eventually becomes conductive and the bias runs away and blows power tubes. Contrary to popular belief, the “mods” to these defective boards are not a fix. They may work for a bit but ultimately you can’t fix a board that has a fiberglass resin that becomes conductive. This issue was finally fixed with Marshall’s revision 20 boards. Up until a year ago or so, you could buy the rev/issue 20 boards but not any longer. As someone else in the comments mentioned, Brad’s Guitar Garage is selling FYM2000 replacement boards for the 100w JCM2000 amps so you can get that issue solved by getting one of his boards. They’re also much better quality than any board Marshall has made since the 70s. If you can get a 50 watt JCM2000 or a 100 watt that you can confirm has an issue 20 board, and the price is right - pick it up. But if it’s a pre-2004 100 watt amp you may consider doing otherwise unless you have a good amp tech or know how to work on these amps yourself - which isn’t very fun to be honest.

Let me tell you something. I got a JCM2000 DSL50 in 2002 or so. I used it every day and for every live show I ever played for 20 years. It always sounded identical never had to be repaired ever in that entire time. One time a friend was loading it onto the truck after a show and it rolled off the truck from ten feet in the air and hit the ground not in its case. He offered to buy me another one if it sounded any different. We took it back and I drilled it and drilled it and it just wasn't affected by the fall. I put this amp through a life time of challenges. This amp was on mtv. (No i am not famous, yes I was on mtv, I was famous adjacent lol whatever) I just don't know what he's talking about. I'll have to look up drift bias because it apparently never effected me. Lol Id only further add that I enjoyed this video, glad you're lettin us hear this amazing amp and you got some great tone recorded for the video, I loved it! Gonna go look up drift bias now.

the marshall jcm900 and 2000 are underestimated because everyone wants jcm800 and older so Marshall does like Gibson they stay on the models they have been making for 40 years and more which is a shame

Cheap? Not so cheap if they are suffering from bias drift issues. Killer amps, but beware. I got one that I snatched from a friend before it blew up, it now sits quietly waiting to be modded.

FYI the drift bias was fixed starting in 2004 so it’s worth checking the serial number sticker on back for the date. There’s also a bias mod most amp techs can do fairly easily without needing the new board. An unrelated mod that makes these even better is to have a choke installed 👍 Great vid though, this is one of my favorite amps and deserves more love for sure 🤘

Good times! Great vid! I got the DSL50/JCM2000 the year it came out. One of my favorite Marshalls that I’ve owned. I mostly used the crunch gain channel and not the high gain channel as much. I got nothing but compliments for my guitar tone when paired with my Les Paul. Great amp.

My 2000 is from 99, and has the original board... The tsl is a different story... Doing a bias pot externally is a mod worth doing to prevent bias drift. The Chinese dsl different, so the boards are different...
