@FuzzedDrones I'm kind of partial to the Matamp, and I really want my first tube amp to be special, but im broke too, so idk. I think that I'll go with the Matamp. I tend to delay gratification when it comes to my first pieces of gear so that it'll be special and memorable. My first practice amp was an Orange Micro-Dark 1x8 Half-Stack because Matt Pike used it the same way he used his 3 daisy chained Pignose 7-100s during the Sciences era, my first acoustic guitar was a Yamaha Nippon Gakki Red Label FG-180 because of Elliott Smiths first 3 solo albums, my first Boss pedal was an FZ-2 Hyper-Fuzz and my first Earthquaker Devices pedal was the Life Pedal V2

Own the EHX reissue, really awesome pedal platform. MIG50 saturated pedals in very good way! If someone want to get more headroom from it, I recommend checking the bias (amp from the factory have very hot bias) and change the preamp tube in V1 position for 5751.

I wish it had a master volume! I just want an amp with a volume knob for each (2) channels & a master volume, three band eq (would love to have a mid frequency focus knob or a presence knob.) + A gain knob * tone knob. All of that in a combo tube amp with maximum 40 watts or lower. Is that too much to ask for? I want the amp to sound so violently clean then turn the gain knob to just barely open. Just crack gain knob to the sound hits you like a plank of wood to the face. THAT'S IT FOLKS

Picked up one of these about a year ago now, it's been killer and you're right it takes pedals extremely well. I've had Sovtek heads in the past and they all had issues at one point in time that needed repair and just moved to different amps eventually but I always had an affinity for them and anything Sovtek so when I found out EHX was remaking MIG 50's I had to get one again, definitely lives up to my memories and familiar feel with peace of mind finally lol. I hope they decide to try reproing some other Sovtek heads like the MIG 60 they have a really cool 2204 JCM800 feel to em

@FuzzedDrones you should make a video where you discuss stage volumes. You could measure amp volumes and when they lose clean headroom. Maybe even compare the sound of fuzz into a clean amp vs a dirty amp.

@@FuzzedDrones Nice. At some point a few years back EHX quietly revised the amp. I suspect the changes are mostly related to supply chain challenges. I have serviced the old Sovtek MIG-50, a few of them. Sounded great, in theory they are a hot Bassman. BUT: the buildquality was so inferior. I`d say, if russia builds their tanks like this, we don´t have to fear them. They will fall apart after a few kilometers. Dozens of cold solderjoints, failing sockets etc. Because of some failures like missing Screengrids on output tubes etc. the amps failed miserably and damaged various components. Red-plating was also common, damaging output tubes. I hope this newer versions are built better.
@NONAMEACCESSIBLE4 күн бұрын
Russian build quality isn't very stellar today either, the technology they produce has little outside competition/reference so they can get away with it. Still, planned obsolescence isn't that much of a thing for them so they still design some stuff to be more serviceable. In a way knowing it's repairable gives even less incentive for quality, as they know you can and will get your stuff fixed. The quality of the stuff the government directly finances like weaponry isn't really skimped on though, even if the designs themselves are often crude, but that too can be affected by corruption in some way.

@IIIVIIVIII_amplifiers5 күн бұрын
4:20 (hehe) Companies not always do the bias on the back because to do the bias 100% right you have to know the plate voltage of power tubes. Company can state that (let's say it is always 500V) but sometimes you don't have 120V coming from wall, maybe 125V or 112V and bias drifts with it, same with plate voltage. Tubes are all over the place. You can't set let's say 40mA all the time because it says so on the back of the amp. And no one will put plate voltage pin on the back because it will be 300-600VDC at your fingertips to kill you :D So it is always best to get the amp from the headshell by the TECHNICIAN so he can check the plate voltage and calculate the bias. Because you can go for normal (70% of tube strenght <- this is most common) or less or more. And turning bias pots will change plate voltage, and by changing plate voltage - bias voltage will change to. So it is constant dancing between pins to set the bias right for each tube or set of tubes. There are apps to find perfect bias (mA) for any power tube for given plate voltage but that's why not all companies do that because you have to know what are you setting and why. Are you going for poweramp breakup, tube life, tube saturation and so on.
