Great project and awesome video!! The back quarter view of the press making the tenons was a great angle!! Great job on the press drawing out and planishing the tenons! Of course, the various euphemisms for toilet paper was worth the price of a whole roll of mountain money! 👍

My favorite part of these videos is seeing the badass tongs, punch holders etc which you've made and which give me ideas. :) Also that you've got the power hammer but mostly shape by hand. I notice you let the piece bounce in the power hammer once in a while which i've never seen before... i imagine with enough experience that's something that's ok to do without a miss-hit totally obliterating the thing?

Ben. I have a request. Will you please make a video showing in detail how to make tongs (any type) with sharp shoulders? I don’t know any other way to describe the tong handle other than angled/sharp shoulders just past the boss. Thank you

I get so tired of starting videos to learn some new blacksmithing ideas and the first thing you do is fire up a power hammer. No tool steel tongs they crack from repeated heating and cooling.

Why do you bother with these videos you KNOW 95% of don't have a power hammer, we have to make our tongs differently

I see you feel very strongly about this. The tongs I showed as an example in the beginning were done with a striker and no power tools and the process was done in the same order but with more sweat. Aside from the entire process, which I’m not going to reshoot just to show how it’s does without power tools, what would you like to see done with hand tools?

I don't see a problem just because he has a power hammer. I don't have access to one either, but I really enjoyed his video and the art of his tongs.

@@Hornytoadforgelistening to a lot of the offended "I can't afford a power hammer" crybaby blacksmiths make me wonder if they hop on their horse to ride into town to trade some pelts for groceries to keep from offending people who don't have cars....the reason blacksmiths who lived 2000 years ago only used anvils was because they didn't have power hammers....any one of them would have traded their first born for the tools we have today....a blacksmith without a power hammer and a good belt grinder = an unsuccessful blacksmith.....great video (loved the power hammer btw)😊

Tongs are a bear to make. I don't know how many abandoned half sets of tongs I've got laying around the forge that I didn't like the way they were going. You've got a few toys that I don't have that would definitely make the job a little easier (drawing out reigns by hand isnt exactly my favorite way to spend some time😂) but that being said watching you make these with some tools that I don't have that you do it cleared up a few things that I think will help make my next attempts go more successful. Appreciate you sharing your methods of making them they turned out great.

@Hornytoadforge I really like to use 3/8 x 1" flat bar to make my tongs. Drawing the reigns out by hand is the only part that sucks but have been considering making a handled hot cut chisel to split the stock to make doing the reigns easier.
