So the weight of the wood is the only thing stopping high winds from ripping that deck off that rubber roof??

Gerald Swindle said “Work hard when nobody’s looking” and I believe if you can’t do that then pretend someone you want to respect you is watching from a window. Also, I live in VT now and I miss the Mews dearly.

What a speech! I’ve been in custom home building for 20 years on cape cod and very few people think like Jeff I’ve strived to model my company after three local builders out of hundreds that think like this it’s very rare. I tell my guys all the time it’s not ego I believe we are one of the best but never say that to anyone just show it that is one of Jeff’s best points. I meet several people I truly believe are the best and they will never tell you they are you have to stay humble. I have friends who think they are the best and won’t take any advice or listen to different ways and that’s what keeps them from reaching the best sometimes I learn a way that seems better than we are currently doing from someone with a couple years experience everyone looks at things different you have to stay open minded. Jeff is a rare for sure I’ve tried to operate with his same beliefs for 15 years and have got far but haven’t quite broken through to the clients I need to operate like Jeff but I know it took him a whole career to get there so I believe I will. Your a hero Jeff

Definitely do not see many builders with in-house trades, to a point where it's almost a joke to call a builder anything but a manager. Out here in Nevada builders don't build anything they just supervise it. Wish more people followed your model. Great stuff.

I’m my commercial days I’m working for contractor building g high rise buildings we would build scaffold a structure like that. This would be subbed out to scaffolding company which would have an install, dismantle and rental number built into their contractor. These scaffold systems would then be “tarped” with monarflex which provides a temporary enclosure especially during the winter. A job like this would require engineering to make sure the scaffold doesn’t turn into a sail during strong winds. Something like this would have cost: $50k plus.

Did the same underdeck system on my level, 12" o.c. deck. Formed my own 12' full-length troughs from aluminum flashing including built-in drainage slope. As the deck flexed when used, SO MUCH OIL-CAN POPPING NOISE! Didn't even finish screwing down the boards. Ripped out the aluminum and replaced with EPDM rubber troughs. No silver shining through the gaps, solid feeling, QUIET. Unless your deck is ROCK SOLID rigid and you have no other choice, don't use metal troughs. Learn from my mistake.

I used this type of bending ply for a flying staircase. I realized it just wasn’t as strong as I wanted , it was wobbly and so I layered a few 1/4” birch ply then it was fine. Did you find the bending ply to be strong enough?
