My sister, who has SC sickle cell, broke this down for me...... the powers manifest from the things they need. The runner is a run away, running from a racist family. The time traveler manipulates time to be there for everyone he loves. The strong man wants to be stronger for his son, so he becomes stronger. Lazer wishes he could disappear, so he does.

I am a fan of super hero movies and a Brit. Thank you for your review, I enjoyed this movie too. I thought I was just watching a film to support black artist but the movie soon demonstrated that it was high budget, clever and very watchable. I too binged the whole series after promising myself not to. I suppose it will lean to some of the"top boy" ideas because that is the London, black culture. I would also align it with the movie "get out" what is the film world saying about black people being special and desired? Michael the protagonist was too pretty 😍 but held his own. The love Interest I feel was acting younger than she was and as a natural girl (myself) her straight wig annoyed me. However I accepted her in the end, but was not convinced of his total devotion of love to her. I would give it 8/10 for the mere fact I could not stop watching it.

Love the show. I genuinely respect the level of unapologetic demon time Tazer and Krazy were allowed to display. I'm interested to see how Tazer evolves now that he's learned his mom didn't abandon him. I don't think we've seen the last of Krazy either.

Thumbnail fye 🔥 I loved how relatable they kept the characters… They all gained powers at pivotal moments in their lives & integrated their journies to each other in a way that didn’t feel forced. They weren’t all trying to save the world, they fought for self preservation. I found myself wondering what I would do if I was given random powers 😅

I hit the thumb up at 0:29 when you declared that you finished the series in one day and flashed that bright smile. Brov (and I’m Caribbean American using that slang)!!! Everything about this show was A+ Now for the rest of what you had to say. I suspect that you needed to start off with a spoiler alert.

So, the spoiler alert wasn’t warranted but one point I want to challenge, these folks have tons in common besides their neighborhood. The producers dealt with issues so subtly that you’re learning a lot while being thoroughly entertained. I LOVED IT. I think it’ll be up to lots of awards. You had me smiling throughout your review. Clearly a smart guy. Have you seen raising Dion? I hit subscribe and am off to find “Top Boy” since you mentioned it.

It’s was nice to see parts of South east London. But for me the gang story line was unoriginal. Does all black cast or black characters = gangs 🥱
@emmanueltemilade2547Күн бұрын
So, I think the thing is that gangs in these areas in london are a reality - unfortunately of course. And I think this show aimed (in some ways) to present (or represent) people who look like us and act like us from south east and south west london. That means the inclusion of single fathers, single mothers, married folk, the gang members, the NHS workers, the delivery drivers, the average people who aren’t involved in any gang stuff but still unfortunately fall prey to the activity of some gangs. We were shown the nuance that leads people to join gangs, or break the law to provide for their families because “the system” legitimately doesn’t work for them. One thing I really like about this show is that it was quite different from top boy (and other shows in that vein) because we got to see more than just gangs. Gangs weren’t a central theme in this story (yes, they were a theme, but not a central theme). This story was about loss, grief, anger, hatred, love, health conditions etc. and it just used various different types of black people (with super powers) in south london to tell it. We got to see various different kinds of black people, not just gangs, and I thought that was great 🤷🏾♂️

Great analysis of everyday individuals.
@applenotrhubarb479Күн бұрын
@@emmanueltemilade2547 yes, gangs exist in Southeast London I’m very much aware as somebody who grew up on the council estate to an extent. But I do believe that gang life and culture has been perpetuated and so now it’s become commonplace narrative which might not really be reality for the majority of black folks living across London. Yes a delivery driver could get robbed, But everything in the storyline wraps his self around gangs, i.e. the girl who is going out with the gang leader, the guys son who is getting involved in crime. I mean is there’s no one that has a regular office job, is there no one going to uni. Do you know how many blacks are in uni now so that being said what is realistic and what just makes a good story that we used to watching. Blacks, equal gangs or somehow association with gangs seems to be everywhere in media just open the daily newspaper? Let’s remember that the main narrative is supposed to be about sickle-cell, which to me is more of a powerful story than gangs.
@Lagrangeify17 сағат бұрын
@@applenotrhubarb479 Yeah, a core of truth but also a media trope. The spiciest of our communities don't represent all the flavours but for the sake of getting projects financed, they might as well. But then there are stories within stories aren't there; ways to explore themes that might not get greenlit otherwise. I think this is one of those.

They are actually all linked by the fact that their parents or at least one parent have Sickle Cell Anaemia, the cell has mutated within them to create the Supacell which gives them their powers. I am a proud Brit that could not be prouder right now, Rapman is a legend and this show is 100/10

*Spoilers* For me this feels more like a story of a dying woman who happens to be in an apocalyptic situation rather than a monster movie that looks at how the characters deal with the situation. It's a choice. It definitely felt more like an arthouse indi film rather than the blockbuster horror prequel I was expecting. It was a fine movie, but I rather wish we were following Djimon Hounsou's family instead. I just kept wanting to ask Lupito if she was expecting employees to be cooking pizza's when she arrived at Patsy's? It made no sense. Also, I could understand the guy was really traumatized from having drowned in the subway and chose to stick with her because of the cat, but why would you go back in the subway into the water then? The monsters don't follow people around--as long as you're quiet they'll go away. Why run from them into the subway?

I know why you don’t want to give it a number score. I’ve been hesitant to overhype it to my friends, too. We sound CRAZY giving it the score it deserves (which is quite high), so we temper expectations. I’m not holding my breath on a season 2 for reasons. That said, I’d binge it on day one should it happen. What a great first season.

I was surprised at how good it was. And being from Compton I seen so much of California gang culture reach way out there thats crazy. But it more than just a gang story, it a super hero story ,and a Love story. Never seen a blend of these genres with a all black cast beforel. The acting is on Point. The special effects and seeing Black Love was just refreshing to see.

I have seen an article somewhere about this series and decided to look into it. I was very hesitant to watch it because I expected yet another generic superhero woke crap series but then decided to check out the first episode, which delivered big time. It doesn't matter if someone doesn't like superheroes or has superhero fatigue because this feels different. They never become superheroes in the sense of dedicating their lives to saving people and the world in general. They are just regular everyday people who have a lot to deal with and then get these powers on top of that, which gives them even more crap to have to deal with. I love how you mentioned The Boys because if I had to describe it to someone, I would say Heroes Season 1 mixed with The Boys. I binged the series within a 24-hour window and can't wait for season 2. To me, this series felt like a breath of fresh air with an original story with characters that could be anybody - you, me, people we know, or people we pass by on the street, not knowing what they can do or what they are up to in their lives. It was a very nice surprise and I am happy that I decided to give it a shot, otherwise, I would never have known what I missed out on. I haven't seen such a good superhero series in a long while.
