this is old but i need answers, i stored this can not in direct sunlight and in a room temperature room, yet the bottom has weird dents and it keeps occurring with every can I buy, this time the 2nd can had more dents when I shook it vigorously, why does it keep doing that? I have to discard them in concern that they may explode
@magicallymj2 ай бұрын
Oh my that does sound scary. I have not had any issues with my cans getting dents in them. I haven't been able to locate any more information from other users either, but some people who have had this issue with spray paint say that as long as you are extra careful about keeping it out of direct sunlight or extreme cold, it should be fine to use. When I did a Google search for "What causes an aerosol can to dent" I got this result which seems useful: "Dents on the bottom of a can without a seam are usually considered minor defects, even if they are significant." When I changed the search to "What causes an aerosol spray can to dent on the bottom" I got this result: "The bottom of an aerosol spray can can dent for a number of reasons, including: Crushing: The can may have been crushed. No seam: Cans without a seam on the bottom can dent significantly and still be considered minor defects. Air entering the can: A dent can allow air to enter the can, which can lead to the growth of microorganisms. Aerosol cans are pressurized and should not be stored in temperatures above 120°F or placed in a car. They should also never be placed in fires or heated locations, as they may explode. " In my opinion, based off of this info, I would say they are safe to use. Just continue to store them properly and maybe wear some goggles, gloves, and an apron - just in case.

Hi i know I'm late lol. I was looking for some advice. I am currently building a guitar and just recently finished staining it with Unicorn spit. I came across and wanted to use it on top to give it that iridescent sheen. My question is do you think it would be better to use this before i clear coat or apply over the clear coat?
@magicallymj2 ай бұрын
Hi there! Thanks so much for watching! Better late than never 😁 I would use the clear coat afterward. I'm not certain the stain would have the same effect afterward. Is there any way you can test it out on a small sample of the same type of wood? I always recommend testing first. I hope this helps. 💖

@shaymarie97143 ай бұрын
Hello! Lovely video! I have been painting for nearly 40 years. Beginning my art knowledge and education very young, I was enrolled in art schools as a child. So definitely not a novice and acrylics have always been my favorite medium with a brush. (I actually work with so many mediums in just about anything you can think of) The DecoArt galaxy varnish is absolutely beautiful AND new to me as I only just started using DecoArt sealer and varnishes because I always disliked their paints. Nowhere near the amazing experiences I have had with the FolkArt and Apple Barrel lines. But I favor just about everything over the DecoArt paints. My newfound love for these DecoArt products, minus the actual paint, led me to this stunning galaxy varnish but so far, it’s the only one I am struggling with in their varnish line. I have multiple pieces, all varnished at different times. Indoors with plenty of circulation. Relatively cooler than most homes, from what I am told. (I was definitely born in the wrong part of the world! Gimme snow! LOL) but I am struggling with every single piece staying tacky! At first I blamed myself for possibly getting overzealous when I saw how beautiful it is, in person, and considering I might have coated too thick. So I adjusted with each piece, trying to achieve that perfect balance but everything is all staying somewhat tacky!?! I’ve never had this problem with anything paint related in my life! Some pieces with one coat. Some, after over 24 hours, a second. But it’s all exactly the same amount of tackiness DAYS later?!? Can anyone help me understand this and figure out how to get my finish to NOT be tacky anymore?! I have 2 pieces outside with me, right now, and they are in the sun. Hoping and praying that helps. I am actually tempted to break out the hairdryer and I never do that! Not sure that would even change anything at this point. Help!
@shaymarie97143 ай бұрын
And because I forgot to say, only 1 item has acrylic paint underneath the galaxy varnish. I have some on bare, fully cured cement, some on concrete, 1 is natural stone, seriously sanded down first, and 2 different pieces of bare craft wood that is WELL dried out and sanded before ever getting this varnish. So I am getting the exact same problematic results, no matter what surface or prep is done.
@magicallymj3 ай бұрын
I apologize for my late response back to you. I had to process your issue and think back to my own experiences. I have noticed that the more layers I add the more tacky the canveses get. I haven't had the issue with ceramics or wood. This tool stand is still as perfect as the day I made the video. No tackiness at all and my craft room temp varies from super hot to super cold (Im probably your opposite - I love the heat, preferably dry heat hah) I usually do just the 1 coat on ceramics and 2 coats on canvases (one vertical and one horizontal) I mainly use Artist Loft brand paints, Liquitex, and Culture Hustle in my own art. All of which are acrylic so I don't think thats the issue. I wish I had more insight for you. The only thing I think I can suggest is to really shake the heck out of the bottle, though if you're like me you just shake them for fun lol Maybe the bottle you have is from an older batch? Did you buy it online? From a shop? Sometimes the paint I get on Amazon goes bad and doesn't mix properly. I got my bottle from my local Michaels. How did the sun work for those 2 paintings? I also am not sure the hairdryer would make a difference but its worth a test run. Maybe a mini canvas .. or 2 - One to test the dryer on cool and the other on warm. I will keep investigating and see if I can find out any more information or tricks for you. I hate that you keep having this issue, especially because it really is such a beautiful product. Sending you lots of positive artsy energy ❤️❤️
@ShannonMarie-ex9id3 ай бұрын
Not a problem with delayed replies since I only get signal in certain places out here in the middle of nowhere! LoL. I did purchase it on Amazon but it is still such a new product that I doubt it has run it's shelf life. But maybe it's possible I suppose. It's actually recommended to never shake this product or any varnish because it introduces air bubbles and this is something that has always been difficult for me since art school as a young child. So I honestly haven't tried shaking it. I do turn the bottle around and upside down, gently, an hour or so before using it. The time in the sun did seem to help a hardly noticable amount but I am actually wondering if it's me!?! With autism and mixed peripheral polyneuropathy, my sensory perceptions can be, either, like I am not a living person and I physically feel no sensation OR I have EXTREME sensations and sensitivities! It definitely makes things, apparently, different from what others experience. Possibly my sensory interpretation of the finish is not the reality? I don't know. Straw grasping, I suppose. I have another bottle being brought to me and I truly hope it's better since from somewhere else. I don't like having to blame my "differences" and think it's possibly just my discerning nature but I absolutely don't want to think I've wasted money on a spoiled product! Things are tough for everyone but without income, art being WHO I am, it would be a big hit to take!

I was easily one of Culture hustles biggest fans, and had ordered there products many times. Now however something shady has been going on and i would recommend EVERYONE to STEER CLEAR of them. My last 2 orders have not arrived after over 5 months. I had reached out repeatedly to their customer service which does not provide any kind of response. On their website it says one of my orders is still in the queue and the other says its pain is being made (which apparently takes over 5 months?). Apparantly Culture hustle has a serious problem in how much paint they can produce yet they are still taking orders as if they can deliver. The amount of money they are still collecting from would-be buyers, knowing that 75% of them will simply cancel their order after waiting over 1-2 months is VERY SHADY. Im not sure what they hell they are doing with everyone's money (playing the stonks market?!) but there is no reason they should be still taking orders and advertising like they have products in stock when they clearly don't and take over 5 months to produce.
@magicallymj5 ай бұрын
I am so sorry that you have not had a good experience with Culture Hustle. I know things have gotten slower on thier end. I myself have ordered a few of thier new products, I usually snag them as soon as I get an email announcing the new ones - but the last few have specifically said that they were pre-orders. Do you mind if I ask what were the last few things you tried to get but did not arrive? I made this video a few years ago and did not have any issues with shipping. In the past year, there have been one or two bottles that I had to wait a couple of months for, but they did arrive. My only advise is to purchase with caution, try to plan ahead - order the paint before you will need it. I know that is not the best advise, you shouldn't have to treat the company with eggshells - but I think the product is worth it. I am sad to hear that you have had all these problems though.

I bought the “ultimate glow” for black hands and white telltale wheel of a 1930s art deco wall clock I’m restoring, and it shows up well on both when energized with enough light. I did apply four or five _heavy_ coats to each, and it’s taken a long time for the paint to fully cure, but with that amount of coverage, the black enamel on the hands doesn’t prevent the glow. Looks just like the radium paint glow from that era. I tested putting a layer of clear coat acrylic over top of the paint to protect it, and it does not negatively affect the glow paint’s performance
@magicallymj6 ай бұрын

Brown bakelite case is dull, will be clear coating it with Aleene’s pearlescent. Tested it on a spare, similar piece of bakelite, and it produces a shimmery sheen that isn’t tacky or cheesy looking. Update: The pearlescent product itself is great, but it gums up the spray can, even when you clean out the tip, and you’re never able to finish it. Experiment mixing different shades til you get the bronze you like. Also, any time I paint on over black, always paint a light opaque color first, THEN go over with the white or whatever light color you're using. Black is always tricky to paint over. And the thin/transparent result that you say is not hood enough, lends itself to be able to used in multilayered pieces, creating depth. Full opaque paints have their place, but Id rather use paints that aren't solid/opaque.
@magicallymj8 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for your advice. I always love to learn from other artists. My review is mostly a basic view of the product. I do know that adding the layer onto the black first will create a different effect, but I just wanted to show what they look like if you were to paint as simply as possible, on wither a black or white canvas. That way the novice artist can go into thier project with some knowledge. I always encourage others to play with the products and to find what works best for them. I only want to give them that first step. You are 100% correct, those transparent colors are valuable for depth and other awesome effects. I didn't think of it that way when I made this video. I am learning too, I'm certainly no expert, thank you for your insight.

Thank you great video that took all my anxiety away to not be intimidated to use this product! I’m using it on a wooden electric guitar body. I sanded off paint & previous thick clear coat. Then I dyed wood a pink hue because I wanted see wood grain ect. My wood is not solid piece nor hardwood so I want put enough coats of clear to protect wood. So I see how you put on two coats. If I put on say 4 coats or even more do you think anything will be improved by sanding between cleats coat applications (if so I thought I’d use very fine sand paper or even micro mesh … super fine). Please I’d love to hear any your guidance. Cheers 🎨🖌️👩🎨👨🎨👩🏾🎤

You are very welcom! Thank you for your kind words. Yes, I think that a few more coats would definitely be beneficial for the wood. I would try to test it out on something similar first though, just to be certain that the scratch marks from the sanding are not visible. I know with a resin varnish the scratching from sand paper becomes pretty much invisible but not certain about this product since its more like a paint. Also the more coats you add on the longer each layer will take to fully dry. Make sure to not add them to quickly, it could become sticky. I would love to see pictures when you're done. It sounds like a beautiful guitar.
