as Epic owner, flew Meridian, TBM prior to buying, I say Epic wins. Full fuel payload of 1100lb where Meridian and TBM are half ore less. speed is always 308KTAS+

Why is the nose strut so short if the prop is so close to the ground? 🙄

When the Epic offers FADEC and auto land, Daher and Piper might have a tougher time selling planes. Then again I wonder if those comapnies’ service networks are advantages.

Love them just do not understand why they didn't just engineer 20 more lbs. of aluminum to allow for another few hundred lb. of useful load.

Lucky to be flying up there. Thanks for taking us with you. A cam inside the cockpit, and another one facing out would be great. And I'm one of the folks that could do without the music! Just a pleasure to be aboard a nice aircraft!

Good video. I agree about going into winter months. I fly to TRK several times a month and the end of September or October I always forget to cover TBM overnight. Then I need to delay departure that morning. “Little high” with 18kts of headwinds is perfect airmanship.

What a neat watch. Lovely plane, I Googled to see her up close. Would be great for you to share some of the systems on TBM900. Things too like why you pitched for 124kias in the climb! Best from me Down Under in Middle Earth!

What is the cost for fuel on reverse propeller over the length of brake pad. If it is creeper to use the breaks then the enviroment will not see the impact of fuel burning. I am a analyist and I look at all sides of the deal.

❤ TBM , have you ever land on grass field pls or paved only . I will be new TBM 9xx member coming from Cirrus SR22 used to land on grass. Everybody from TBM community avoiding this topic 😉 any experience or opininion pls . I know about low fairings issue only. Thanks a lot

@MrLincMer 5 ай бұрын
Hey danielpelikan6964, making the TBM your next plane is a wonderful choice! I have only landed the TBM on pavement. The TBM POH contains text and data for grass runway utilization. However, there are cautions listed in the POH for this procedure. Considering the fairings is a great point. Additional areas of concern would be the prop hitting the ground, and aircraft sinking into the ground either while moving or after coming to a stop. Also, while the POH doesn't mention this, it would be wise to consider the landing weight. I'd be concerned about landing heavy. A heavy aircraft means the shocks are compressed more, so the prop would be closer to the ground, and with the small wheels, it's more likely sink in. Compare the landing gear and prop height to a PC12, which is built for non-paved runways. Personally, I wouldn't recommend. But, lol... here is a video on KZbin of a TBM landing on grass: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r3mVp3RpYraoh5Y&ab_channel=DavidFLYINGsmart

@tracemitchell2093

I think the simplest way to put it is the TBM engineers took a lesson from airliner wings because if you look at a 737 for example the aileron is also really small in comparison, and not just small its span is short but its also super narrow front to back. But by using the outboard spoilers in tandem with the aileron you can maintain the benefits of a much bigger flap while still having slow speed handling. Compare it to its counterparts in the non pressurized sector, the caravan, and Kodiak. they of course have a much higher lift wing and fly slower but also have a much bigger aileron. And if we go further down to something like a 172 or a Cherokee you see the ailerons take up the majority of the wing just to remain effective at slow speeds. We can compare to STOL aircraft where you have flaperons because now to have any authority and maintain 25-35kn you need the entire trailing edge to be helping you. All this to say it really is an elegant engineering solution because that little spoiler weighs almost nothing but brings back the authority you need, gives you better flap area allowing slower landings and adds probably 1/10 or less the weight of a longer aileron

I think all the mentioned different aircrafts are each in its own category. And that is due to either differences like power, size, etc. For instance TBM latest series with 850shp vs Epic e1000 with 1200shp, that is a huge 350shp difference! (...).

At 1:30 I removed the conduit channel to make life easier to get the cable from car to boot lid. Stupid me broke the clip so the conduit channel didn’t seal properly. Realized what an issue this was when we had a rain downpour and the roof lining got saturated. Looks impossible to fix this properly without removing all boot electrical cabling. I’ve siliconed it into place so hopefully that will fix it.

The Carbon or any composite for that matter just needs excellent element protection. With technology, paints can be designed to compliment the composites and give them a much longer life. As far as micro cracking. Any fastened/connecting point should always be over engineered. Made far more robust than what the original formula states. Then work out the rigidity of the remainder of the plane. There can never be to much stress testing. Mike Patey has an excellent video on the topic of Carbon air frames and how he designed his personal plane ( Scrappy ). The structural carbon on his never sees the sun. He has a secondary sacrificial layer that is not structural to take the elements. He also goes into the proper protection and paint.

My company is considering a TBM as opposed to a PC-12. Seems most of the flight department wants a PC-12 and this just makes me lean more towards Pilatus with the prop clearance. We fly out of a region where snow and uneven runways can be a factor. I am going to bring this up.
@MrLincMer
@MrLincMer 9 ай бұрын
If you’re concerned about prop strikes due to runway contamination and uneven surfaces, I would agree. The TBM and PC-12 are built for different missions and right plane is the one that best fits the primary mission.
