Hi Michelle 😊 you popped up in my feed about a week ago and I subscribed right away. I’m also a content creator and I just retired from my hair styling business. I am a self taught artist and hoping to incorporate it into my channel. You mentioned the Carolina’s, I actually live about 20 minutes from Boone NC. I wondered if you were in my area, it’s so beautiful here. I’ll keep trying to pop in when I can. I’m getting ready to start back creating the 1st of August,so hope to see you again! Keep up the good work really enjoying your content!

Hi Tonya! Thanks for watching, so glad you are here! ❤️ I’m actually in southern Ontario, Canada but the type of forest(biogeographic region) we have in our area is called Carolinian forest which is defined by all the deciduous trees. It reaches all the way down into the States. I do love coming down to NC and SC! It is such a great area! 🥰

Thank you for this video, Michelle! I have STILL not started due to all those things you mentioned! You asked what is the biggest thiing that is stopping me? Aside from confidence, I think it is just not being able to complete a task. When you are at that 9-5, there are people to ask, other departments and people to rely on, for knowledge. You get your questions answered and can get things done! I suppose you just have to do whatever it is and make mistakes until you don't!! lol Thanks for the nature walk! no bears where you are at? haha.

For black bears, come to western NC near Asheville. I've also been seeing more deer - they are more in the run during raising newborns.

This winter my photography began changing. I started using my phone camera, first on walks on the campus after therapy sessions. I am becoming comfortable with letting my shadows, and that of the phone, become the story. This became a much interior exploration of my environment + me in it. You look wonderful, Michelle.

So true! I guess we just have to give ourselves some grace to try things and fail and try again in a different way and take time to research maybe. It does take time but that’s ok! Just enjoy! 😊 And no, there are no bears where I am but if I drive a few hours north there are quite a few. 😅

@@michellejozina @user-ki1yc4vx2s I have just a "little" fear of bears after having one in our camping area all night a few years back! Yikes! Your journey is so inspiring. I’ve just moved into a new place and had to laugh at the overwhelming amount of art supplies I have. But one question: what are “pencil crayons”?? Am I missing an important art supply?!!! 😳
@michellejozina18 сағат бұрын
Haha! Someone made the same comment when I first uploaded this video last year and I was laughing. “pencil crayons” are what we have always called coloured pencils here in Canada since I was a kid. 😂 Probably something to do with the fact that “crayon” is pencil in French. I have said it again in a recent video where I forgot to correct myself so I’m waiting for the comments. Sorry for the confusion! 😝

If you are making "art" specifically focused on generating money, your art will suffer.
@michellejozina18 сағат бұрын
Thank you for your comment, but I disagree. 😊 I think there are many reasons for making art. Ask any full time (or even part time)artist. If they didn’t make art to generate an income, how would they pay their bills? Using your art skills to make money is no different than any other skill you need for other jobs. In fact, I think it can help you make even better art knowing that others will pay for your art because it brings them joy.

Very inspiring, I’m a graphic designer for over 20+ years, so tired of it, I’m hoping to retire at 62 & start an art business, I’m more of a mixed media artist, not an illustrator at all, just like you I went to a 2 year art school here in the states, ended up at my job after graduating, it has changed a lot over the years, I would say the first 12 years where enjoyable & fun not the case anymore. I don’t have any children to worry about. Still trying to figure out a niche, but honestly I need a year off like you did, I am burnt out for sure.

We were fed crap in college too... I went into Travel and tourism. Got my degree, just for the industry to crash. After that, I went into banking. stuck in corporate America. After 15 years, I was fired from Wells Fargo. Then I got into health care, as a behavioral therapist, and started working on another degree, in sociology, until the lovely year you spoke about. Freaking Rona!!! Now I'm coming back to the work force, I don't want to return to corporate America. So here I am... Debating to get a teaching credential, or if that would be a waste of money. Even though I've taught art for over 10 years my confidence about my own skills is lacking. 2 years ago I took a virtual teaching job to have more control over my schedule and to fix my health (classroom teaching took a lot out of me physically and mentally). Subscribed!! I was NOT bored at all - thank you for sharing your back story as well as your plan for income streams. I am weeks away from my 69th birthday. I am self-employed ... 38.5 years as a software developer. I LOVED coding as well as the others I worked with. Until a few years ago. Ultimately, I completed my last development contract Jan 2024 (this year). Timing was good for my mental health. I do need/want to continue to generate some income as well as keep my brain active and always learning. I was teased about my art/lack of talent as a child and decided that I was not creative. But programming IS creative and I am an amateur photographer/videographer and happen to love my own stuff! Then, in response to various things/people ... I started exploring drawing, ink and wash, watercolor, gouache ... and HOLY COW! I am loving the learning process - no masterpieces and I am not a "natural", but I am loving all of the creative things as well as letting go of the programming part of my business. I am at the point of figuring out my own income streams so this video was so timely. Big, big thanks for sharing your journey!! It helps me consider my own options.

I just LOVE this idea of a Gap Year. I abandoned my creative pursuits out of 'practicality' at the time (I'm 61) and the era of being led to beleive one couldn't make a living in Creative Arts. Im curious, you said it took about eight minths to find clarity on what you wanted to do. How soon after that clarity came did you go all in with your plan? BTW, I subscribed to your channel after watching your whole video. 😊

It took me 8 months of my year off to figure out that I want to pursue art again and then it took me another whole year of playing around with different mediums and styles and researching to figure out what niche I wanted to focus on. So now that I have an idea of what I want to do I am taking small steps to try some of them while working a day job. It is quite a process and can take time. I’m sure it could be different for everyone depending on your circumstances. I think as long as you are doing a bit of something everyday creatively you will get there.😊
