I enjoyed that episode. Thank you. I love the Yamaha guitars, I own four. I suggest you try an FG, or FS 850 yamaha. They have solid mahogany top, mahogany b+s mahogany binding and abalone inlay around the sound hole. There was one in the rack right near the other yams. They are a beautiful looking guitar, and I want one for my collection, probably an FS with the smaller body size. Anyway, Im waffling! Thanks again for the great episode.

@@guitarnotions ah yes. The LL, LS range are beautiful guitars. I have two. The LL26, 36 and 56 are hand made in Japan. And out of my price range. The FG range started in 1960 I believe, and some older FG models are very sought after. I have an FG 820 which I love, and play every day. I am leaning toward the FS versions now as Im 70 and appreciate a smaller bodied guitar. In the past Ive had other FG models, most memorable, an FG720 SCA which had electronics and a cutout. I dont buy guitars with cutous now, as I dont play that far up the neck...🙂 P.S. the FG range are considered "entry level" by most, but they are very well made and once played in, are sweet sounding. Also, they have solid tops, which is a plus for tone.

You make that Taylor 8 string baritone sound nice. I tried one of them in my local dealer a while back, But being mostly a flat picker, I could not really make it sound good for me. The price is crazy for us non-doctors. Also tried one of the Taylor 12 fret 12 strings you played at Palens Music in Wichita lately. I ended up buying a very nice Alvarez acoustic 6 string baritone for about $500 on the SDD. Cutaway body with arm bevel on upper bout. It is not a primary instrument for me but fun to play and has good electronics for the price. I let it sit in the studio for a couple weeks to acclimate then did a setup and I am very happy with it. Why do guitar players always go to the same stores? I think I am a Martin stalker......

Nice to see old music stores surviving. Only thing Surviving in Tucson is Guitar Center. I need to look up the Furch . Like to hear it plugged in . For the price I was impressed with the Jim Dandy. Actually had some tone. Not just a cheap plastic sounding guitar 👍 Nice guitar donation Kline music 👍👍

Sharing music with others is the best, so happy to see others do what they can to pay it forward. I love my all mahogany Yamaha Storia , hard to beat the price for what you get , they have brass bridge pins which l’ve never seen before and sound great plugged in or not. Anyway have a great day or night wherever you are 😉

See? Cindy found another great shop off the beat and path, so to speak. I love seeing these shops that aren’t as well known as some that have built a big KZbin following. Gives me hope that there are still more music stores out there than we think. And that’s really beautiful that the luthier from the shop donated a guitar so you can mail it to South America for a child or adult musician who needs a guitar or wants to learn to play. That’s wonderful! Looks like a great place to buy from with such great prices and staff/customers. Seeing some of these shops you’ve visited recently makes me wish I didn’t live on the opposite coast, lol. I’ve never heard a Furch nylon string that I can recall. Didn’t even know they made them. That sounds great! I like that it’s not built like a classical guitar. Looks like that’s a great guitar for someone who wants the look and feel of a steel string that kind of of sound more like a steel string, but without the steel strings - for someone who wants a really easy playing guitar. I’m surprised by the resonance because many nylon guitars fizzle out quickly. I’ve also been curious about that Jim Dandy. People say this guitar an amazing buy, but the price point is scary low for an acoustic- usually they sound rather bad and the playability lacks on any acoustic below $300. I never saw a Deluxe - guess it’s probably identical to the regular one, but with a pickup? I wonder if that pickup placement would get annoying. Looks like it’s a bit in the way of your fingerstyle, let alone if someone uses a pick. That’s my only concern. I wish Gretsch had mounted the pickup either higher or lower - or better yet, had used a piezo that would be completely out of the way. It’s tough to mount magnetic pickups on such a small guitar. But it really sounds nice acoustically. I guess someone can always buy the one without the pickup and then install their own if they wanted. I’m not a huge fan of Fender acoustic guitars, but I like the Tim Armstrong one. Many Fenders sound lifeless or tinny . . . and many don’t resonate well, but this one was nice. That Yamaha L6 was also lovely. Yamaha has been knocking their guitars out of the park lately - at all price points. I’ve never seen a Yamaha Storia before. That’s also a nice surprise. That was a really mellow sounding guitar.

I am thinking your guitar may not be set up right. But check out Martin silk and steel strings. They may feel like they have less tension. Without seeing the guitar and measuring the action and relief its hard to say. You can always try 11/52 but you may experience string buzzwhich will require another adjustment. But maybe try the Martin 12/53 silk and steel first.

@@jetwoman10001 do you have a Guitar store nearby that does set ups? The reason why is because when a guitar is shipped to you it’s not going to be personalized to your liking. It very well might be set up just a little high to make sure it is has room to change if you need to,. But sometimes just making a small change on the truss can bring it down enough so you’ll feel comfortable, if someone nearby that knows how to do that and make your guitar so much better.

Great lesson! The most important take away is just a few repetitions and move on. I find that it’s crucial not to overdo yourself, get frustrated, etc. When we learn something new, it takes time to get our muscle memory going and build those connections between our hands and brain. I like to play guitar before I go to bed at night or before a nap. Research has shown many times that sleep and rest helps the brain with learning. I practice something new until I start to do the skill a bit better and/or just the point before I’m getting tired or bored, then I move onto the next thing I want to practice or play for fun. Then whatever I did that way will hopefully get drilled into my mind and body while sleeping. Overall, overdoing something for hours whether it’s day one or you’ve perfected it seems counterproductive. It’s not necessary and just makes the practice feel stale and boring.
