Hi there. Thank you for the excellent video! I am not an expert on cacti/succulents and have a small collection of 20-30 of them. I live in the frozen wastelands of Canada lol. So keeping my cacti outside overwinter isn't an option unless I want them to die. I want to allow them to go dormant this winter, but up here it's either 70 F (indoors in the basement) or -20 F (outdoors). It's hard to create anything in between that up here. I can definitely reduce the light and watering but there is nowhere safe to put them that is below 70F. So is it possible to give them a dormancy period? Any tips on how to proceed with that? Thank you so much!

@@Joe-mp1yjthe nutrient part has not been proven in cacti, however moisture is definitely shared between plants. Where there are plants, it’s more likely more will germinate and live since this underground mesh also helps seedlings during early stages. Fungi play a vital role in all of this as well 🤯

Incorrect how? Tree roots usually go down as deep as the tree is tall 🤔
@JeagerTv
@JeagerTv 8 күн бұрын
@@RareCactusthat has actually been proven incorrect semi-recently. Tree Roots have more lateral growth extending far beyond their leafline with only 1 or 2 'tap roots' specifically designed to reach down deep towards a groundwater source.

@cactuseando1 7 күн бұрын
@@JeagerTvplease name the study, scientist and country to fact check you because I don’t think that’s accurate 😅 Especially considering that there a thousands of different tree species that all grow differently. So it’s impossible to say they all grow shallow roots.

2 points id like to raise here if anyone has a problem with black spots and also weeping, firstly it could be a fungal infection, in this case use a systemic fungicide and spray directly onto the cactus but also 2. (Which is much more common) Trichocereous Cactus's can get black spots and weeping just due to stress, it can be through sunburn, through it taking a bump, sometimes when a trichocereous goes through stress the alkaloids come up through the skin, i had this with a bridgesii monstrose mine due to exposing to the sun too quickly and not aclimatizing it properly because i went on holiday, it isnt anything to worry about at all, in that case it is better to leave it dry keep it in a well shaded spot and allow it afew weeks, it will scab over and look abit damaged but is not a real harm to the cactus other than aesthetically. If you are unsure which of these issues it is it wont harm to use a fungicide first just incase.
