Ah, yes. The joy of chickens.. We had five, that eventually became pets once they stopped laying. They had free reign in the garden and regularly dug up flower beds. I netted some and we had several old hamster cages which I used to cover fragile seedlings. Loads of fun. We had an old Lab and she and the chickens were best pals.

🤣🤷🏼♀️😁 As cute as they are they really do get in everywhere they shouldn't be. Our ladies will also retire as pets, hopefully in many years time.

Nice one, Elli. Aside from the usual growing methods, this year I am also having a go at growing a few spuds in cardboard boxes. If the Highveld Summer storms don't completely destroy the cardboard it will be interesting to see what we get come harvest time.

This is so interesting, I would love to hear how you're experiment goes. How do they hold up to watering?

One box is already looking a bit wonky. The others I have wedged together or between some large basins I bought from Westpack. Time will tell. I will post pics on a blog I host when it comes to harvest time. @@NextChapterHomestead

😊 Nice video. Love seeing stuff from local gardeners. This might be of interest. I see you are using cut up plastic milk bottle tags as labels. I used to as well, but now use wooden tongue depressors. I cut each one in half at a 45 degree angle and they can be written on both sides with a permanent marker. And of course they are biodegradable, so I chuck them on the compost heap at the end of the season. DisChem sell a generic box ( white with blue writing) for about 20 bucks. I bought the same zucchs as you have. Planted them out last week. Are your potatoes in the ground yet?
@NextChapterHomestead2 ай бұрын
Thank you that is very kind I'm glad you enjoyed it. The tongue depressions are a really good idea, I will have a look into it (this is genuinely helpful, thank you for sharing). As for potatoes, I will be planting mine out soon, I'm a bit lazy in this cooler weather we are having
@douglaspearce11872 ай бұрын
@@NextChapterHomestead woke up this morning to a muggy, chilly valley here in Observatory. I've opted for an old sweater before venturing up the garden path. 😊 Further note on the Tongue Depressors. If Dischem have none on display ask if there are any in stock. The name brand varieties are flipping expensive by comparison. Be warned! Have a nice week-end.
