At 2:02, why is there a diver? Is this a mistake or does the CTSFO level also include diving?

@ I was of the understanding that the Diving unit will provide assistance when requested. The same way that the air wing assists in various operations, be it foot chases, searches etc. but I didn’t know if Counter-Terrorism officers also train in diving. Very, very cool if they do, but is probably only necessary for areas of the UK with large bodies of water or coasts

One quick thing ARV isn't the name of the overall unit it stands for armed response vehicle, which is crewed by ARVO (Armed Response Vehicle Officer) officers, you also have AFO (Authorised Firearms Officer), SFO (Specialist Firearms Officer), CTSFO (Counter Terrorism Specialist Firearms Officer) and PPO (Principal Protection Officer aka close protection bodyguard), each type of officer has a skillset designed for the purpose in question, the lowest qualification is AFO, then comes ARVO, next is SFO, then PPO which is a subspecialty of SFO, finally you have CTSFO the highest police firearms officer qualification other than a CTSFO instructor, however not every force has every type of officer! Every force has AFO and ARVO officers but the other designations are not in every force, for example one of the channel islands doesn't have SFO officers or anything above that!

what’s the difference between CTSFO, AFO and SFO?
@jakedovey7488
@jakedovey7488 5 ай бұрын
AFO is the basic firearms officer qualification which means that they are trained, authorised and equipped to use firearms, SFO is two steps up and are trained to use specialist skills such as being a sniper, advanced breaching equipment and techniques, rapelling or maritime work, CTSFO is the best of the best providing extra skills such as mobile armed support to unarmed surveillance officers, explosive breaching, helicopter deployments, motorbike and watercraft deployments, armed surveillance (very rare), close protection, tubular assault, stronghold assault above the level of SFO, high risk prisoner escort (occasionally, normally conducted by ARVOs), high risk sieges (previously SFO/SF), extreme risk raids, armed manhunts to name just a few!

I know a few and it's really not easy, I do know some of the requirements you have to do a minimum of two years in a core policing role, have good eye sight be extremely physically fit, pass background checks, medicals and various other bits, but as far as I am aware you also only get two attempts at the course, after two fails you're ineligible to reapply for AFO or any other firearms qualification for the rest of your policing career because you must complete AFO before further specialist training, I wish you luck, my advice would be to contact your local police force and also consider MDP and CNC as they are almost entirely armed, but they are also amongst the hardest forces to join!

Another great video, I've rewatched and yes we need another PSNI HMSU or RUC HMSU kick ass video and yes I'm aware of the Stalker/Sampson inquiry on HMSU but they were there throughout the nasty years of the Troubles In N.I, they deserve more credit after all they were trained by the SAS, back then in the UK the whole SWAT / armed response didn't really exist, in effect they were and still are the very first in a full on counter terrorist environment despite the controversy and yes I 100% understand it, but they are the cutting edge of CT armed response to some very nasty terrorists and criminal scumbags.
