I have found the spot for louder tones, that’s perfect to me: Bass side: 1.5mm Treble side: 1.2mm It’s great for my 62‘ Reissue which can sometimes be a little weak when it’s on the standard factory setting which is: Bass side: 2.4mm Treble side: 2mm

Does anyone feel the need to actually pull a little bit out the pickup so you can rest your thumb better? For the people that has, is it worth it or are there issues?

More importantly get hold of good soldering station, it may sound silly but in my country good soldering station price is crazy and not easy to get a usable one. And those cheapo lousy solder rod from C, had wasted a lot of my time. Amd i throw a lot of solder lead away thinking the lead has high melting point.

For curiosity, can someone make a case for handwinding pickup coils instead of machine winding? I just can’t figure out why any company would take the additional costs and risks of human error and inconsistency instead of using machine that would be able to be programmed to do the same task with incredible consistency?

I wish my Les Paul had a tiny little vise in it like that. It sure would be a lot easier to get those “nice pools” of shiny solder.

WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG !!!! If anyone tells you to use a rule tell them to shove it. 1) Lower your Bridge pickup. 2) Raise the high E until it is bright but smooth. Too high and you'll know it. Check by hitting 17th, - 20th fret. You'll know when it sounds best because you are listening to one string. 3) Plug in a distortion on the guitar through an amp and slowly raise the bass side while strumming. Do so until you get a good nice crunch. We are talking about setting the distortion to just over overdrive into slight distortion. You are aiming for an AC/DC tonality. easy to find adjusting this way. If the bass is too high lower the pickup and using a screwdriver adjust the 3rd and 4th pole pieces to adjust mids to taste. But you may not have to do that depending on how evenly the pickup is wound. Point being. This is a tried and easy way to set your bridge. 4) Lower the neck pickup and do same to high E side. 5) raise base side until you get a nice crisp clean tone. no distortion pedal. Done through clean amp. You are done. Nothing complicated. Throw away that stupid rule. Totally shit advice. IMO !!!

Sorry bud that's what we call a cold joint yes it works but not 100% leave the iorn on the joint until you can see the shape of the wire remove iorn (very important) do not let the solder joint move for about 10 seconds. I worked at a major recording studio ! probably used 20lbs of lead over the years !

Since sound follows the inverse square law I like Logarithmic for Volume and Linear for tone. Otherwise my perceived volume is mostly just in a small part of my knob.

Raising the screws in a humbucker reduces their magnetic strength within the pickup. The way to increase or decrease the magnetic strength of a pickup across the stings is to raise or lower the entire pickup. Lowering a pickup increases sustain by reducing the pickup's magnetic drag on the strings. It also opens up a lot of the pickups natural harmonic quality as well as making tuning a lot easier by reducing "wolftones" and other sonic anomolies caused when an overly strong magnetic field is placed too close to the strings. This is not a matter of opinion, it's science.

Great video, except for not using any flux. I understand that the solder you are using has a rosin core, but that doesn't do much to help the surface you heat before using the solder. A jar of actual flux, a little dab on the back of the pot, and bam....the solder will melt onto the pot MUCH faster, easier, and it will be a cleaner and stronger connection. I am honestly surprised how few soldering videos bother to mention flux when it makes the process so much easier, especially for beginners and people worried about overheating their pots.

I've just bought a new Epiphone with Custombuckers. The pole for the low E string can't be set flush with the cover, I can only turn it to go higher from a position that is already high. Do you have any clue about what might be preventing this pole from going flush with the cover? Thanks?
